This compilation is freaking sweet. I'm in the process on compiling music from The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 myself for some good listening.

The music got me into this series and I still play (On ocasion, but trying to get back into it). Thank you for this!

  • "Sooner or later," eh? Gotta love procrastination.

Anyway, update's out now. For those of you wondering where the SimAnt stuff went, maybe I'll do the other Maxis games later. And I do mean later.

If you live in Europe you can pickup lossless ALAC versions of SimCity 3000 & SimCity 4 Original Videogame Music at qobuz.com for the typical cost of a CD.

Sadly us lowly Americans can not purchase this music (store checkout geo-locking prevents purchase, probably IP based)

Do you have music for SimCity Buildit and Social?

I do not, unfortunately; they seem to have escaped my notice until now. Do those two games even have music of note? If so I'll think about adding them later, but I can't promise anything. Gotta move on at some point. :V

They do. I remember playing both and having at least a few tracks.'

I found some on the 'tube, but they're likely not the entire soundtrack.

SimCity Social will be hard- they game was shut down...

You don't have SimCity 2013 Music in OP either. Just a side note.

Regarding the Sims, did you get a music collection on that too like you implied on OP?

  • I haven't collected any Sims music yet. Maybe I'll do it at some point.

As for SC2013, well, I'm not going to risk the copyright demons being unleashed on me for uploading it. It's not as bad as some of the more obscure music already in the collection, but said music is there primarily for historical interest...not to mention it won't get taken down by the RIAA or whoever.

    What about SimCIty Buildit?

And why would the copyright demons go on SimCIty 2013 muisc, but not SimCity 4 music?

Because the music from SC 2013 is more recent... and the jackals tend to jump on these kinds of things... ;)

Hey, long time no see. How's things?

...how, if I may be selfish enough to ask, are the remixes coming along?

If you ever update this, for the files in-game, I would be most grateful if you could share Flac files for anything sourced from wav. I either keep all my music in flac or Ogg Vorbis, so it would be easy to take .wav files from a game like Simcopter and compress them into flac rather then lose anything via mp3 compression. I know they weren't the best quality to start with, but lossy is lossy.

I'm comparing my flac versions straight from Streets to the versions you have... there's some remastering differences. comparing Middle Finger in the rock station tells me the high ends and symbols are much more pronounced and cleaner in the remaster. A lot of bass was lost in the game version of Greased Monkey.

However, the remasters seem to suffer from audio clipping, looks like they artificially inflated the volume. Shame, really. The remasters are superior in every other aspect

Really wish we had higher quality for Simcopter though... always loved the techno station.

Also, there's actually a mixing error in the remasters! In The Garage Again has the left and right audio channels switched from the game version for some odd reason. I've made a corrected file if you want it.

  • Go ahead and post the link for the corrected file here, I'll grab it.

As for FLAC, in hindsight I should have converted the .wav files to FLAC but I decided to convert to MP3 for an easier listening experience. Can't say I'll be doing that now though.

Also, I can upload Flac versions for SImcopter and Streets if anyone is interested.

I also ripped the menu music from Simcopter.

It's also a good bet that the masters for Simcopter exist.

As proof, I will point out the obvious connection between track tkno2mx2 in Simcopter and the resampled "Put It Down (Rave 1)" from The Sims: House Party Original Game Soundtrack. "Simtricity (Rave 2)" is a remix of "Piston in My Pocket" from Streets.

I have no idea whose ear we'd have to bend to get them to release the masters though.

  • Swapped out In The Garage Again, thank you. Having the master tracks for Simcopter would be nice, but I don't expect it to happen.

I e-mailed Jerry Martin asking if the masters still existed and if a release might someday be possible, we'll see if I get a response.

So here's his reply. I sent him a follow-up asking about the missing Streets track masters, and who I might need to contact for those if he didn't work on them.

    Hi Joseph,

Thanks for your email. Sorry for the ridiculous delay in getting back to you.

I'm so glad you like the music and I appreciate your letting me know.  I have all of my music mastered in storage now since I’m in the process of re-locating. The problem with the SImCopter music is that even the master mixes are pretty weird. I was trying really hard to make them sound good as 8 bit, 11k, XA compressed. (at the time I didn’t realize that they would never sound good like that)   Anyway, when I get my stuff out of storage I’ll find them.

If you'd like, please join my BoomBamBoom list to get a free download of the "Build Mode" piano music from the Sims. (highest quality MP3s and music transcriptions)  I’ll also be sending updates on my more current work etc. and misc. freebies. I plan to use BoomBamBoom as a boutique music shop eventually and even team up with John R. again for some more music like the Sims Build mode.

And although I don't use it much, if you'd like, please friend me on Facebook   https://www.facebook.com/jerry.martin.56481

Also, keep me updated if you change your email address.

    Thanks again for your email,
    Jerry

PS:  (Music Factoid)  The Beatles made so much money that EMI (the parent co.) didn’t know what to do with it. With the Beatles money they were able to invest in R&D and invent the medical imaging device known as the CT-Scan machine. (CAT-scan)

  • Glad he got back to you. Did you know he did a Reddit AMA late last year? At any rate if he decides to give us the masters I'd gladly host them with his permission.

Anyway I uploaded the music from SimCity BuildIt and SimCity Social. There really isn't much to speak of; I only went through with it because as far as I'm aware it's a trifling amount of music.

        Hello!
This is my first post on this website and I'm making this because I have a problem. A few days ago, I've been getting back into SimCity 4 as I feel less and less interested in Cities: Skylines at the moment. My goal, as it is in any city-building game, is to start off with a small town and develop it into a sprawling city. In SimCity 2000 and Cities: Skylines, this is no problem as long as I know the basics and some tips and tricks for improvement but as for SimCity 4, it's a bit more complicated than that. Considering this is the most feature packed title of the whole SimCity franchise from what I know, I would assume this game is not as easy as Cities: Skylines in terms of trying to build a small town with whatever money you have and later develop into a large city. That's fine, but with complicated things are and not as easy to find out, I can never create a city in SC4 that would even come close to what I made in SC2000 or CS.
At the moment, my biggest issue is that my low-density residential zones have trouble getting to develop despite my low-wealth residential demand at almost 100% at all times. Now I don't know if this is because I haven't developed any neighboring cities for outside connections or there's too much services or there's not enough jobs for everyone or there's not enough parks or a combination of any of these factors but it takes zones a long time to develop. We're talking months of in-game time wasted before anything happens and sometimes it's just one or a few houses that develop and I have to wait more for the rest of the area to develop and even then there maybe a few little areas that still haven't developed.

If you want to see what I created, I have uploaded the folder of the region (which is the vanilla New York region) here (the city is America City in case you didn't know): https://drive.google.com/open?id=1hdbPZuxsOnhO921VK732X4S5wg5lIWkD
No mods were used while making this city and I would like to keep it that way just so I don't have to deal with the hassle of installing, uninstalling, and reinstalling mods for whatever reason. I would like to keep it vanilla as possible but if for whatever reason, I would need to install a mod if I absolutely cannot proceed without them, I will if needed. Thank you and have a nice day!

        Well, I finally decided to start getting back into SimCity 4 after years of not playing it. Took and installed it on an old System I've had for quite a while. Specs are;
Athlon XP 2500+ Barton, 1.5gb dual channel DDR400 ram, Gigabyte ga-7n400 pro2 motherboard, 20gb Maxtor hard drive, Windows XP SP3, Radeon 9600pro advantage 256mb, Sound blaster audigy, 1280x1024 resolution on a 17" Dell LCD monitor.
installed SimCity 4 and the Rush Hour expansion plus the latest patch and the latest network mod. Going to start with the tutorials and then then see if I can get my old save games to load.
Going to be upgrading to an Athlon 64 X2 4400+ in the next month or so and staying with Windows XP. Then need to get the fastest AGP video card I can find at a decent price.

Hello, I'm new to this community, but I did play SC4 before.
It's been quite some time, but this time I want to make a city in a colder climate, which the default settings just won't do.

So I searched for some climate mods and tree mods, controllers but I'm a bit confused.
BTW, I don't go for super realism or something like that, unlike some other people dedicated to the community..... honestly too tedious for me lol.
so maybe tree controllers and the hassle might be over my head,

but honestly I can't stand the oak trees when it's supposed to be -25C in winter and 20C in the summer.

In a nutshell, I'm trying to find

        - A good enough climate mod that demonstrates the continental climate (I think -25 ~ 20 C is a bit colder than the average Europe), or one that I can easily change the settings (I only know a little from Ilives Reader, nothing else)
(Preferrably with snow in the colder seasons)
        - And a tree mod or some tree addition, stuff like pines and other evergreens (I don't honestly think I could bother with the complexity of tree controllers, but maybe I could give it a try...?)

Well, I tried a search but it's harder to find what I want than I thought...... help is much appreciated.

What are your favourite real world cities to recreate?
What cities have a sufficient number of BATs on the Exchange to make a realistic recreation?
I have made a NYC, Chicago, Hong Kong, LA and currently working on a London UK recreation. I have also made cities that aren't actual recreations but I use landmarks from 1 or 2 cities only to come up with a familiar look. I have done this with Shanghai, Singapore, Melbourne and a Taipei/Tokyo mash up. I think my next city will be Denver, as thee 3 or 4 largest downtown skyscrapers are on the Exchange as well as the really cool Denver Art Museum. Shenzhen also on the list, with a few cool civic buildings to go along with skyscrapers.

        Hello All,
Looking for some tips and advice on how to build a realistic transition from light residential to agricultural zoning on the edges of a city. I typically start a city by zoning all Agriculture and then working from the middle outward decreasing density as I get further from the middle. The result is usually light residential and/or industrial zoning bordering directly onto agriculture. Would you leave a gap of trees like a Green Belt instead? The snapshots provided are for a larger city I am starting so I didn't bother to zone the middle sections as AG as I plan to prezone Res and Commercial in this case.
Thank you for your suggestions, looking forward to it.
