Alternatives to Image Shack for CJs?

Hello all!

First, I would like to say that I am not a fan of the changes to the CJ format with the last website overhaul. I really liked how the old format could at once upload and embed an image right away. Plus, I love how you could really see what an entry looked like as you wrote it, rather than just seeing code. But, bygones...

I have been using image shack, but I have a few issues with it. First, it seems to resize my images without telling me it is doing so. Second, it won't let me categorize my images.

Any good recommendations on an alternative image hosting site?

Flickr doesn't have direct links anymore. Photobucket was being complicated when I tried it. Imageshack resizes photos by itself when you set it to 800x600. This is what it automatically is as a default. I changed mine to 1024x768 so the pictures are the same size that they are in the game. Simtropolis resizes it automatically. Imageshack would be the best choice. As for categorizing-you could possibly make two imageshack accounts for whatever you need them for, but that could be confusing. Anyway just change the size of the image by using the drop box. I hope this helps you, I went through the same process looking for a good image hosting site. :)

Photobucket seems very decent, but it resizes all of my pictures for no clear reason. Without derailing the thread, does anybody know why this is?

Nevermind, Photobucket was programmed to do that. Wish I had played around with my own account settings after 2-3 years...:P

I've been using www.ld-host.de for quite some time, and never regretted it. It's a smaller German site which, IIRC, was even started by a bunch of SimCity fanatics. Just to throw in an alternative.

If you want to work in a WYSIWYG environment, pick up Mozilla Kompozer (free), create a folder on your own machine for your CJ, and work on it, essentially off-line. When you get it where you want it, upload your pictures to wherever, change the image URLs to retest it, then copy/paste the whole works to the CJ section.

This may seem indirect, but it allows you to work as you like, and the workaround isn't that hard. For tutorials I post with images, I use my private web site supplied by my ISP (included with my Internet subscription), but you may not have that privilege and you may also need more space than I have.

Of course you have the option of uploading your pictures as you go, and using the URLs in your Kompozer page also.

I like the numerous amounts of other websites people have listed to alternatives to imageshack. I guess a lot more people are starting to realize imageshack is just 14.gif. I used to love it but all the changes and ads and confusion have made me switch to alternatives.
