Please Help: Simulation Issue!

I've been playing SC4 Deluxe for years. I've download mods and through trail and error, have learned how to used MOST of them.  But recently my computer crashed, (btw the guys at CompUSA told me the problem was from the mods I've been downloading, but anyway it's fixed now).  Computer's been working fine for the last month but within the last week I've noticed that random cities within different regions (only 2 so far) have started to run very slow.  The first city was a fully developed one that ran slow for about 3-5 SIM months.  After that it has been running fine.  The second time has occured on a new city.  I built out the transit infrastructure and started my zones, when I hit the simulation (cheetah) arrow, the simulation runs slow (slower than another city I have with over 200,000 res, 400,000 com.  So I would like for someone to point me in a direction to troubleshoot this problem.  Like I said I've built and re-built over hundreds of cities (the tiles within the region) and have never had this problem until now.  PLEASE HELP, and THANK YOU in advance.

Sounds pretty mormal for a simulation being run flat-out.  You are probably encountering periods of heavy development either of properties or population.  As cities get bigger, the simulation will slow down because of sheer volume.

In my humble opinion, running this game at cheetah mode all the time is a recipe for being frantic.  Why?  This is a game and it is supposed to be relaxing.  How can you enjoy the very detailed animation the programmers put in for your enjoyment if you run them at such a high rate?  Try running in Rhino, and move in on some of your streets, parks and plazas.  You'll see a lot of very detailed animation, and this uses up processor cycles as well.  It is better to take your time, relax and enjoy the scenery.

The purpose of this game is to use up your leisure time, not increase your stomach acid.
