Can I install the new versions of NAM without installing the traffic simulator?

You can remove the NAM traffic simulator by removing the files that start with "NetworkAddonMod_Traffic_Plugin_Z" and "NetworkAddonMod_Volume_Data_View_Z" from your NAM folder. The reason there is no option to have these files left out of the NAM installation is that various parts of the NAM depend on them. For example, the RHW won't work at all if these files are removed, and the NWM won't work properly. The balance between the various transportation options in the game will not be correct, and pathfinding will be very poor, often resulting in buildings being abandoned unnecessarily due to commute time. For these reasons, use of the original Maxis traffic simulator with the NAM is neither recommended nor supported by the NAM Team.

What don't you like about the NAM traffic simulator? A large number of its settings can be changed via the Traffic Simulator Configuration Tool, making it behave almost any way you want.

Which colors are you referring to? If you mean the colors in the Traffic Volume Data View, that's strictly speaking not part of the traffic simulator. You can get the original Maxis Traffic Volume Data View back simply by removing the second file I mentioned in my previous post. The only downside to that is that in the Maxis version, all of the displays top out at a commute period volume of 1200.

None of the things I mentioned in my previous post are considered cheats.

Also, can you update your NAM by simply installing it on top of the previous version?quote>

It depends on the version.  Generally, it's safest to uninstall the old NAM before installing a new version.  However, if you're just reinstalling the same version with different settings, uninstallation is not necessary.
