Hi!

This is my first post here. I'm Ivan, from Italy. In the past I played through the various SimCity editions enjoying many hours with them. I still remember the cities I created with those games, athough I don't have anymore in my PC (well, I don't have anymore the same PCs...). Some days ago I got SC4 and I started to play with ever more fun. Now I'm here to show what I'm doing.

Green Island

Green Island is my first city that I built in SC4 (ok, the first after some test cities...). It lays in the middle of a nice and growing region, Portsmouth Bay (*), on the New Englander shores of the Atlantic. In fact I think that "city" is a too big word for Green Island as actually here live just 5000 inhabitants. We can call it a small town, or better, a group of three adiacent towns that years ago decided to join into the same municipality. As first post I drive you in a fast visit across Green Island territory.

Green Island ("the Island") is the oldest town. It has become a quiet (and expensive) place where to live, but I think it is quite boring, too. This is the only of the three towns not served by the Boston & Maine Railroad, but a bus route connects Temple Square with Carrabasset Center B&M station.

Here we are in Carrabasset Center. The town is crossed by US Route 1 (called State Street here) and the B&M Eastern Division. If you don't have enough money to buy a house in "the Island", Carrabasset Center is a good place where to live thanks to the clean air.

Newburg is the newest town (as the name can suggest). In origin it was the smallest, just a bunch of houses between fields, farms and woods. In the recent past it has grown very fast, thanks to the well working industrial park (on the wrong side of the railroad) and the active business district (on the right side of the railroad).

I hope this first visit in Green Island has interested you. Every kind of suggestion is appreciated. If you have some suggestion about developing my cities, don't hesitate to tell me: if I find the idea interesting I can realize it. I just need to take the keys of the bulldozer...

(*) Of course, my Portsmouth Bay has no relation with the real Portsmouth in New Hampshire, it has just the same name.

You have a very nice and quaint little town on the coast there. Great flora to use for the forest and good town itself!

I'm the 'A' to the 'r', to the c-h-e-a-n,
and even though my name means 'old' I'm really quite pimp,
I'm Archilicious.

Hey, Ivan!  Welcome to Simtropolis...Love how you labeled everything!  This looks great for one of your first cities (towns). Green Island certainly is green 9.gif and quite lovely.  I like the use of the single railroad (I think?) in the last picture.  Great job!

    Archean - Thanks!

BlondeTwiggy - Yes, that is the beginning of a single track railroad section: it's a (just eyecandy) spur leading to a mill.

    Update #1

    Farmington

I've started to develop a new town northwest from Green Island. It's a tiny town in the middle of a sea of farms without any kind of industries.

    1904farmington01.jpg

Besides Farmington itself, there are three other small villages. The border with Green Bay municipality is along the east edge.

A closer look to Farmington reveals some little detail. The railroad spur leading to the huge elevator; the back alleys, the power lines that cross the town instead to break where there are zones... I'm slowly learning how to add these nice details studying other CJs in this forum.

The heart of Farmington is the Main / Birch Hill Streets crossing. Here there are some stores and offices with a parking lot on the opposite side of the streets, but I managed to give them access via the back alleys.

Here is an overview of the Mill Spur in Carrabasset Center. The texile Hanson Hosiery Mill (by SimGoober) is the first non-Maxis building that I erected in my towns. I like it very much, I think it gives a true New Englander charme to this corner of Green Island.

    Poll #1

    Green Island

Some citizens in Old Carrabasset complain for the heavy traffic leading to the bridge to Green Island "the Island". A second bridge (Half Street Bridge) has been proposed to connect "the Island" with Newburg to relieve congestion in Old Carrabasset and provide a shorter route between the two main neighborhoods. This project has encountered the approval of most of Carrabasset and Newburg citizens, but "Islanders" are against it as they are scared their streets would be interested by a noisy through traffic that could flow along the two bridges instead to run on the US 1.

The proposed Half Street Bridge between Green Island and Newburg.

You can express your preference (bridge / no bridge) replying to the topic. Thanks!

Great start to the CJ! I approve of the proposed bridge. The citizens of Green Island should not be affected by traffic much since the bridge would connect to the main road in Green Island and not interfere with the residential areas.
