NASCAR is great. End of story. 3.gif

Back on topic, my Giants actually avoided getting swept by Atlanta today, but they really need to get their offense back in line. Their next series in Colorado is going to be pretty important.

Congrats to Buehrle on the perfect game, that catch was amazing!

Hoho....a Giants fan By the Law of Physics, you and I are supposed to be bitter rivals, but since I am so far removedfrom the west Coast that the 'rivalry' that exists doesn't reach this far 20.gif  With that said, man do the Giants suck...41.gif j/k18.gif Fun and games aside, the Giants have a damn good pitching staff, one that I'm envy of, but glad the team doesn't offer much of an offense to go with it...at least for this season.  Anyways, the Giants have been impressive with what they have so far and have gotten themselves in a position to win the wild-card spot this year.

That was the only game I decided to watch, and that's the kind of game that gets me interested in baseball again. The only thing that I missed was the amazing catch and I was pretty miffed. I saw it on reply, great catch by Wise. He caught it, did a somersault and stuck the landing! I would fail at all three.

Pretty amazing that Buehrle pitched a perfect game, too.

PS Sorry about the Nascar debate. It just sorta happened. 41.gif

Btw, it was the tigers he perfect game-ded, not the rays.

Sox on a homestand against bad teams. They should win every game. Seriously. Loaded the bases in the first inning, JD Drew swung on the first pitch, the ball jumped off his bat, looked like a GS, but it died in center field. Penny looks great though, he hit 99 on the radah a few times. In other news, I miss Jerry Remy, color commentating legend who is off work due to cancer complications. He's being filled in for by a bunch of bad b-list celebrities and reporters who are dreadful to listen to. He and Orsillo had really special chemistry, hope he gets back before the end of the season.

o and Buehrle? hall of fame? outside shot i think. How old is he, 30?

28.gif Wrong.  Check yesterday's schedule...the White Sox played Tampa Bay19.gif

The WSox and Tigers play 4 over 3 days, they played 2 today.  Detroit won the first game, don't about the second game yet.

It was...thats strange. Could of sworn it was the tigers 3.gif

Sox winning, although the yanks are too. Bats are starting to come alive although that isn't translating into runs at the plate. Penny was brilliant, 6.1 innings, no earned runs, 1 run, no walks.

I saw some of the Rangers games; not bad. So four in a row, huh? That's not bad for a team I didn't know existed until just last year.21.gif And those Yankees... those Dang Yankees. Let someone else win! Please? Same with those White Sox. It's been quite a year. It seems like the teams are either always having trouble or always kicking ***.

The Red Sox are the former.

Sox won 3-1 last night to remain 2.5 GB. However, the Yankees obviously will lose one or two this week, since they've won 8 in a row, and if the sox are going to get hot again, this homestand is a great chance to retake the division.

btw, opposing hitters are 0-9 with 8 k's against papelbon with the bases loaded. The new Papelbon makes it nerve racking by putting men on base, but then its better to watch him mow down the other team. And he's only blown one save this year, which is the best hes done i think!

Edit: And according to espn a bunch of rangers have swine flu 3.gif

Also, I never realized just how bad the sox offense has been. Usually, its one of the top in runs scored, however, this year its back at 9th or 10th. The only reason they have remained in the top part of the standings is the third least runs allowed, with 404. Atlanta has 403 and St. Louis has 401.

The Dodgers managed to 'cough' another one up last night I see. How you can lose to a less than mediocre team like the Marlins is beyond me, especially after Kershaw pitches another gem. This is why I have a hard time believing the Dodgers are for real, they keep showing signs of just how bad they were/are before Manny came along last season. I really won't believe they're for real until the y win it all. Then I'll be convinced.

The bats finally come alive! sox win 7-2, LaRoche homered, ortiz hit a 3 run homer, and elsbury had 2 RBI doubles. Bay also had two hits which is another good sign.

Lester was dominant, as was the bullpen. Just goes to show you how insignificant a rough series or a great series is in the grand scheme of things. Only once in my fanhood has a series had an effect on the grand scheme of things, and that was the 2004 sox yankees in july. Sox lost the first, were down in the second, Varitek fed A-Rod the infamous knuckle sandwich, the sox got emotionally high, came back off rivera, and then won twenty games in august, took the wildcard, and made history.

As of tonight, the Washington Nationals have more hours of rain delay than they do wins.

Go team.   34.gif

On the upside, they did punch a hole into the nearest subway station so it can handle more people.

No lack of parking here, the teams make too much from charging $10 to park

I fell asleep befre the end of the Marlins-Dodgers game, but caught the highlights on ESPN this morning. Even though Manny is a palsy 1-8 at the plate in the series, the other often over-looked Casey Blake comes through once again, like he's done since they traded for him from Cleveland around the time Manny came over from Boston. Jason Schmidt makes his 2nd start since his very long absence from the mound today and hopefully he continues what he did from the 2nd inning on last week. We'll see. A 7-3 homestand has a nice ring to it, much more so than a 6-4 homestand does.

Sox going for the sweep right now, smoltz on the mound.

Today is the hall of fame inductions, jim rice is going in for the sox, becoming the 9th sox player to do so. There are obviously some others [ a fellow named babe ruth comes to mind] who have played some seasons with the sox but went in with another team. I'm wondering how they decide which team a player goes in with? Is there a set rule, or does the player decide.

This leads me to wonder which team these guys go in with:

Roger Clemens [assuming he gets voted]; He spent about half his career with the sox, and his two most famous performances, the 20 k games, came with the sox. However, his best years came in Toronto and New York. It comes down to sox or yankees , but i'd say yankees because he is considered satan to red sox nation.

Manny Rameriz: He spent what, 5 years in cleveland, 8-9 [?] years in Boston, and just about 1 full year in LA. Clearly not LA, unless he does some goofy manny skit again. He put up great numbers in both cleveland and boston, but he was like a god in Boston for so many years and won two series here, so I think it will be Boston for him, despite the rough breakup. I really think he will have that michael jackson effect when he retires, where all boston fans will suddenly ignore the rough ending and focus on what he did while he was here, playing for the club that defines left field [Ted Williams, Yaz, and as of today new hall of famer Jim Rice], he was one of the best. He was the heart of the Red Sox culture and the 2004 and 2007 series teams. Right now we may be a little bitter, but I don't see any anti-manny sentiment lasting. In fact, if the sox and dodgers play in the series, he will get the largest standing ovation of all the former sox greats to return to fenway [damon, nomar, etc.].

Curt Schilling: This ones tough. He was great in Philly, great in Arizona, great in Boston. Boston he cemented his legacy, went from a star to a legend with the bloody sock, one of the greatest moments in baseball, and reversed an 86 year old curse. He also started his career here, so he played a bit more here than those 3-4 years at the end. However, his prime was in Arizona, and he was every bit as amazing in the 2001 playoffs as he was in 2004. So I think it may be arizona, but he has fallen in love with boston and still lives here, so i wouldn't be shocked if it was boston.

This is all assuming those players get voted in, and that its up to the players to choose. Anybody else know of some players that would provide the same interesting scenario?

The Dodgers laid another rotten egg last night, it's time to let Schmidt go, obviously he doesn't have it anymore even if they put him in the bullpen. I supposed now they'll go into St. Louis and get swept there like they do nearly every year.

2009 Hall of famers

Rickey Henderson, Jim Rice and the late Joe Gordon.

Bout time Rice got in. Henderson was a no brainer as well, most Stolen bases in MLB by about 500. This record will NEVER be broken, no one steal bases anymore.

Ill have to say id never heard of Joe Gorden.

Now I look stupid...

The Red Sox are second in the East division? I thought we were doing terribly overall, like 5th! Well, that's good news. And if the Yankees screw up the next few games we could take the lead! That would be very good news. At this point, I'm still not great with the big picture in baseball. I'm just watching whatever game's on.

Does it go like this?:

AFTER THE REGULAR SEASON; Winner of East division, Central division and West division, as well as another team (the Wild Card) play a bunch of games to narrow it down to two teams, who go on to the World Series.

That's how it works, right? Seems simple enough.

Please tell me if I'm wrong, I'm confused...

Yea you basically have it. The three division winners plus a wildcard, the best division winner plays the wildcard in a 5 game series, the other two division winners play a 5 game series, the winners of those two series face eachother in the ALCS/NLCS, which is a 7 game series, and then the winners of those series from both leagues face off in the world series, which is 7 games.

I don't really 'hate' Dodger fans, just the ones who are really obnoxious.  But of course, I do love it when the Giants beat 'em. 3.gif

Yeah, their pitching has just been amazing this year, but their bats ae pretty cold...  but they did trade for Cleveland Indians1B Ryan Garko yesterday.  Hopefully he'll be a great asset.  I'm pretty sure he's starting tonight's game so we'll see. 4.gif

Lincecum threw a gem last night, 15 K's (career high) against the Pirates for a 4-2 win.  Gained one game on Colorado in the wild card, hope they catch up to them tonight.
