I have one BIG problem. When I exported my BAT into PIM. Did the lot editor and all that. But there's one problem, my BAT is not showing up in-game. Is there any way to change the frequency of the amount of time the building appears?

Hi I am trying to use the PIM to, well, make my models into buildings. However, I can't make the PIM work on my computer. I've loaded and reloaded it many, many times (both unicode and non-unicode). It won't load from the Maxis/.../Apps folder at all, always giving me the Runtime error. It will run from other locations like my desktop, but then none of the plus signs appear on the tree, and no models or anything else show up. I am using it on Windows Vista (← the source of most of my computer problems).

I don't know about the problem I'm having. I build a building with the BAT, I send it to the PIM, I edit it, I save it... and then I head over to the Lot Editor for some lot action. I look for my building link... and can't find it. I'm beginning to think that the information could not be sent or recieved. Could you do something about this so I can create?

Hi Chloe, we are not the official Maxis site, we don't have control over their software to fix it. We are just gamers like you. We can try to help, but it isn't necessarily within our power to fix it all for you. All we can do is offer suggestions that might help.

Firstly, make sure your BAT is not too big for the lot you are trying to put it on. Each lot square is 16x16 meters, so if your BAT is bigger than, or close to 16x16 meters then it will not fit on a 1x1 lot, and the Lot Editor won't even show you the building to place on it.

Secondly, in PIM you must make your building the correct type, then in Lot Editor you must choose a Maxis lot of the same type to put your building on. So if you make your BAT a 24x24 low wealth residential building in the PIM, then in Lot Editor you will need to choose an existing 2x2 low wealth residential lot to put it on. The Lot Editor will only show you buildings that are of the right size and type for the lot you have chosen.

Please try these ideas, and if you still can't get it to work then please ask here for further help. It would help us help you if you had some screen shots of your BAT and the settings you have used in the plugin manager, as well as some screenshots of the lot you are trying to put it on in the Lot Editor.

Welcome to SImtropolis.

To install lots you unzip them and put them in your SC4 plugins folder. The one in My Documents, not the one in Programs.

Also when posting on the site it would be appreciated if you could make sure you post your question in the most appropriate thread on the forum or make a new one if it doesn't fit into an existing one. It makes it easier for everyone to find what they are looking for, especially for people who come after you and have the same question. Thanks.

Here's a tutorial for what values are realistic for giving BAT buildings. The default plugin manager values are really skewed; I recommend taking a look at this, even if it's just to get an idea of what the values should be. Over time, I will update it with values for more variations of wealths, occupant types, and growth stages ... plus, I'll probably add more pictures. This guide is intended for anyone, even people with no previous Plugin Manager experience ... it's a good guide to use when starting out, IMHO.

NDEX Tweaking Tutorial, part 1: using the Plugin Manager to generate an SC4Desc file .

I was just going to post that there needs to be a tutorial for the properties, as there seems to be no guide out there. Problem is, as I read your post I see the word "here" but no link or any info that I assume would be the values you are speaking of. Also I was going to mention a min/max values table would be nice if someone knows what they are. I don't want to upload buggy bats.

Always remember that you are unique. Just like everyone else.

Well I have the same problem and I think I found the reason. It turned out that whenever I run the program, it tries to load all of the plugins and original SimCity .dat files into RAM. The memory usage of the PIM process goes up to like 800 MB and then it displays the same Runtime error. I haven't found the solution yet though.

That would seem to indicate you should first try taking all your non essential plugins out of the plugins folders into a holding folder while you do your PIM stuff. Just have in there the items you are actually going to PIM. You can put the others back in when you want to play the game again.

You, sir, deserve a frikin' medal. It worked! I just backed up all of the plugins except for my model and put them in a different folder. Thanks again for help.

Hello everyone--

I am bahamd81, and I would like the plugin manager, but I cannot find it because the original SC4 site is gone.

Is there anywhere that I can still download this?

Thanks.

Sincerely,

Bahamd81

Hi folks. I hope I am posting this in the appropriate forum. I am trying to resize certain Maxis landmarks using SC4 Model Tweaker. I'd like to make Palacio Real bigger, but I cannot for the life of me find or extract a SC4Model file from bldgprop_vol1.dat for any of the properties in that file. Can anyone help?

Thank you, and best wishes for the new year...

Thank you in advance for fielding this question.....I have little to no idea as to what I'm doing. I downloaded a plugin, it is a monoy tree lot, I know I'm a bad player but I just want to have fun. Anyways.....how do I access the lot once I'm in the game, I'm lost.

Welcome to Simtropolis!

It depends really. The menu location of any ploppable file is determined by its properties. Generally, these types of files tend to be located in the 'Parks' menu. It is a good idea though to read the author's description, as it should tell you the menu where it can be accessed from. If there is no description, then it is probably not worth downloading in the first place.

If you're not familiar with installing plugins and other custom content for SimCity 4, a useful thread is this one:

How To Install STEX BATs, Lots and Maps

However, I advise you not to use any 'money tree' type lots at all. There are side effects that can affect your game – such as crashes if the the total money reaches above a certain figure.

If you require a cash boost, I suggest you use the SimCity 4 Extra Cheats Plugin, available here It is a small .dll file that adds a range of additional tools to the game, which Maxis initially used during the game's testing and development.

The command can be executed by using the 'Moolah' code. In a way, it is similar to the standard 'weaknessespays' cheat, but allows you to choose how much cash to add to the treasury.

Remember to read the specific instructions on how to install and use it in game.

Overall, it is a much easier and controlled method of cash input, allowing a specific amount of money to be added at a time.

All the best,

Cyclone
