First City Question

  • Hello, everyone. I have a simple question about starting a new region. Should I start out by having 3 different cities, one for residential, commercial, and industrial and connect them with a highway? Or should my first city be a mix of the three?

P.S. Ive been playing around with the highway system and connecting a residential city with a industrial city and i realized that Sims only use the on ramps closest to the city borders. How can I make them use the on/off ramps closest to their job/house?

First city should probably be a mix. It's easier to do it that way. Otherwise, you have to keep flipping back and forth. Once your region has plenty of demand built up, it's easier to do the dedicated cities later on.

Sims will use highway ramps close to their house, but if they can get to where they're going easier on roads, they'll do that instead. If you want to improve the pathfinding, so they're a little smarter about what routes to take, install the NAM with the "NetworkAddonMod_Traffic_Plugin_PerfectPathfinding.dat" traffic plugin.

When i start a region, i have 1 small sized industrial city next to a large city which i use for Residential and Commercial.

Do you have RH? If so i would just use an avenue to your industrial at the start as they are cheaper and easier and highways wont be needed until your city reaches 20,000 at least in my experience.
