Harrods, by Mattb325.
---------------------------------------

Inspired by the iconic department store on Brompton Rd, Knightsbridge, Harrods is presented as a CS§§§ growable and ploppable lot for your cities.

Please be aware that the present day Harrods has been extended and remodelled a number of times since the main building on Brompton Rd was completed in 1905, so this is NOT a strict recreation, but what I present is faithful to the original façade as designed by Charles Stephens, albeit with modifications to make it more game-ready.

I have only modelled the front portion of the building.

It must be noted that the present building has completely over-run the old streets of 'Queens Gardens' and 'New Place' and wrapped its way around what used to be known as Queen Street and Lower North St (since renamed Hans Rd and Basil St respectively), consuming the old Hans Mansion block and other buildings in the process.
Because these streets run at odd angles and curves, even with the FAR roads and other NAM advances, I felt that modelling all of this would make the building almost completely unusable for the average player.
Additionally the original building, aligned to Brompton Rd, was slightly wedged shaped - the old line is still somewhat visible under all of the present day roof additions from Google earth along the Hans Rd façade. Naturally I have squared this off to get this into game, which means that the rear of the building is completely fictitious.

The present roof junk and extension of the Mansard roof along all facades is modelled - with slight variations by me - on the most up-to-date renovations: you can compare the differences by using the Google earth program (up-to-date) vs. Bing ?birds-eye/Google maps (out-of-date) to see the remarkable difference to the roof-top in recent years.

Lastly, in order to fit the building on a maximum of 8 tiles (which will give it at least some chance of growing), I have removed one set of windows near the turret. Given the lag on my computer, I have also avoided modelling the hundreds of bulbs on the Hans Cres and Hans Roads sides.

With all of that said, if you are strictly puritanical about recreations being 100% accurate, then please do not download this.

The lot comes in two flavours: a growable Commercial Services and a ploppable, functional C§§§ lot, which is found in the Landmarks Menu. Both have the same stats.

NOTE ABOUT DARK NITE vs MAXIS NITE:

This download contains TWO model files; one for dark nite users (and other night-time darkening mods, such as Gizmos night-mod) and one for the standard Maxis nite.
You must keep only one file - depending on which version you use. If you are unsure whether you have a night-darkening mod installed, then choose the Maxis night version. Regardless of which file you choose to keep, make sure you DO NOT delete the Lot File!

If you use the dark nite version, you will need a dark nite mod.

I am going to have a frigging heart attack!!!!!!!   And I already have heart failure.   This piece of work has to be in the top 10, or even top 5, of all-time from the get-go.  I don't know how you do it Mattb325, but keep doing it.  I will not give specifics about why I like it because it would not do the work of art justice.  Hope this inspires others to acheive such greatness.  Thank You.

Another masterpiece, love your work as always glad you still make/release projects for this modern city building staple.  The detail on the brick textures I like the most, makes it look better than irl buildings.

Epic!  And that's just describing the night lights.  I actually like it when BATers take a bit of creative license and tinker with buildings a bit... this is a game after all and being able to adjust models to better fit in with SC4 shows a true mastery over the BATing skill.  Well done!  *:thumb:

Simply wonderful.

The white bulbs for the nite lights are fantastic and will really help to make this stand out in a night scene. How on earth did you make this so quickly, I'm super jealous of your skills.

Hi, so I'm pretty new to sc4 (did/understand everything in the tutorials and a bit more).
I like the London map and would like to continue Building up on kensington and fulham. In kensington I built about three pwerline squares over the already existing ones in order to form a Connection to fulham. The issue is that since I don't get power from fulham yet, my pumps arent producing water and so fulham cant get water leaving it unwatered- even though the deals are still in place for water n garbage(since it seems a part of the original set up.)
What do I Need to do in order to get the power deal working so the water deal also functions and I'm left with the trades between providing for each that which they Need. Fulhams powerplant capacity is well over the 1k extra needed compared to what is being used (so i have enough to make the deal).
My Impression based on some Research, is that i Need to build a few windmills in kensington, enough to power everything, get the City running for a bit, and then destroy them and the deal should be possible.
I would appreciate a simple to follow step by step ish Explanation. Do i Need to wait 1 month after destroying the windmills again (was that even correct?)? do i Need to build water Towers or so in fulham just for the time that water isnt provided? thanks in advance

P.S will passing time in kensington lead to time going by in fulham? I'm confused since they have deals and it seems weird that i could draw power from a neighboring Region build up this one then go back to that Region and obliterate it to get my Money back.

A bigger and better version of the largest (ft2-wise) CS$$$ building in the game.
Utilizes CP's seasonal trees, custom textures, and was designed to be easily compatible and expandable with KOSC's modular parking sets.
With Lotplop, it can be found under CS$$$_60x62_1ChiFashionCentre_   (it is the last CS$$$ family fyi)

So I decided to start a new project, mainly due to the fact that my last city kept on crashing since the last patch.
      So anyway here it goes!;
We start on small scale with a small village in a tropical mountainous landscape.

With such hot climate there quite alot of power demand keeping all those AC's up and running!

One of the highways going through the area. It aint cheap building those bridges!

Plaza Hotel New York, by Mattb325.
      ---------------------------------------
Like so many buildings in New York city, the Plaza Hotel can claim 'icon' status.
This 20-story landmark building opened in 1907 on Central Park South and the main entrance faces the Grand Army Plaza (from which the Plaza Hotel derives its name).
The building is in a French Renaissance Chateau style. It was extended in 1921 with the addition of a 300 room annexe along W58th St.
This is a complex building - indeed one of the more complex buildings I have batted - with no two elevations the same.
While the BAT I have made is a fairly faithful interpretation of the real Plaza hotel, in order to get this into a game constrained by 16m2 tiles, I have had to reinterpret some elements of the building.
The main areas that have been deliberately altered  to ensure that this is a good and useful game asset (rather than a strict recreation) are most evident along the W58th St side, which in real life is longer than the Central Park Side.
To that end I have taken off approx 10m along the W58th St frontage which ensures that the building sits comfortably on 5 tiles and added a matching roof turret for symmetry.
The front elevation is slightly narrower than the original to ensure that it sits within a 4 tile space. This is to ensure that other W2W buildings, which are typically 2 tiles deep can grow (or be plopped) adjacent to the building and neatly align (as per the screenshots).
Lastly, the roof junk has been deliberately streamlined and simplified to avoid the very cluttered roof-top look of the original building.
All that said, if you believe that a recreation must be 100% accurate, then this BAT is not for you, as I have made the changes to the building in order to ensure that it is a good and useful game asset.
      The building comes in a growable CS§§§ 4x5 lot, a ploppable CS§§§ 4x5 lot and a growable R§§§ 4x5 lot.

It grows on the New York tileset and given that is an oversized Chateau, in my opinion would work equally well in a Euro environment.
