  1. Sakhalin, The Cold Isle

Sakhalin  is a large Russian island in the North Pacific Ocean, lying between 45°50' and 54°24' N. It is Russia's largest island, and is administered as part of Sakhalin Oblast.
This map is pretty huge, It would be good for making a nation size region. It also has everyone's favourite geographical feature: Barrier islands (Well mine atleast)
This was a pain in the dookie to make but it was well worth it.

Rio is definitely one of the most beautiful cities in the world. I hope you enjoy this map. Cariocas: I would love to hear your comments.
Please smoothe the beaches. I tried to be as precise as possible. I worked the grayscale on the satellite photo.

sorry for being rude, here is the complete map with all regions clean. this one is worth the look.
    l shouldn't tease, it's not nice, hehe
it was drawn before l knew about that region mapper mod. l thought that was how the game played when l made the map.
there is an island from skies of Arcadia on the map  for a laugh.

  4. Rina's Ridiculous Rivers (10x10 Map)

This map represents my first attempt to code in rivers generation to the Offline Planet Map Generator. It got a bit silly with the water going more places than I'd planned for. I really like the look so I'm tossing it out here on the STEX in case other peeps might want to use it. This map also combines my love of rolling hills terrain with pre-flattened terraces for ease of building. The first picture above introduces @Cyclone Boom's SimEarth colors which gives a very realistic satellite view. The second pic is my own version of the in game mini map topographical view. I use this one for my initial major transportation network planning. (Feel free to right click and Save As any of the pics you might want a copy of.) Next you'll see the full rendered region obtained using the Region Census program (both with and without trees). The remaining pics are individual city tile views showing samples of the flattened terraces along with the rolling hills. Those pics are shown using the Columbus Terrain Mod 2 which I modified by setting MaxBeachWidth to 0x9 and MaxBeachAltitude to 9. I feel this defines the coast lines better. Water is by @drunkapple
To use: Put the three files in a folder called Rina's Rivers under your Region folder of SimCity 4 in your Documents.  Then simply render in game with Shift+Control+Alt+r from that region screen like any other grayscale import.
Note: Some Terrain Mods have altered the original Maxis settings for the total height, sea level, and import scale factor. If your render does not look like the above pictures, this will be why.

  6. Neutopia 1

Sorry it's still in mapper colors, and please, don't flame me for uploading it the way l have, but for the region to work it had to be hand drawn.
To make it look "proper", open the city, save city and exit. please do NOT auto justify, there were some parts that, even after days and days of trying, l couldn't get the 4 corners to align.
The region is, watching the loading screen so many times, l always wanted to make a city in similar terrain. It's pretty much a region of every type of terrain a person could possibly want to build on, from a huge mountain, to the canals of Venice, a canyon through the map that no mayor could pay to fill in, even Mesa's to deal with.
This is my thanks to all of you who uploaded content to this site that l have judiciously raped of content for when l start playing this map myself. (still playing the Adelaide map l modded off here).
had to mapper it because l tested it over half the map, hehehe, as you do, only way to flush it if your backup died.
    Hope all y'all like it.

  7. lacus exaruit map (12x12 Lg Tiles)

This is a new map in my could-be-a-real-place-but-isn't series. It is 12 x 12 large tiles (144 total). I've been adding features to the source code of the Offline Planet Map Generator. I created this map to appeal to peeps who like a lot of flat land to build mega cities (or lots of flat farms) while still having a realistic, random shape in all three dimensions.  My 2nd preview picture above is shown using the Columbus Terrain Mod 2 which I modified by setting MaxBeachWidth to 0x9 and MaxBeachAltitude to 9. I feel this defines the coast lines better. Water is by @drunkapple.
The pictures in the preview bar above are:
The full topographical map using colors similar to those in the in game mini map. The darker green and tan colored areas are basically flat in the game. (If you find this image useful for planning out your overall region design, click the image to enlarge it and then do a Save as... since it's a full sized image with lots of detail.) Region view using Region Census (The following pictures are as generated by the terrain creation program.) The story behind this one is that a few hundred years ago there was a nice central lake:

Recently some underwater explorers accidentally pulled the drain plug and the waters have been receding:

Which brings us to today. The central lake is all but gone and yet there is now so much more relatively flat land to develop a huge farming community or, for the more technologically minded, a thriving metropolis:

To use: Put the three files in a folder called lacus exaruit under your Region folder of SimCity 4 in your Documents.  Then simply render in game with Shift+Control+Alt+r from that region screen like any other grayscale import.
Note: Some Terrain Mods have altered the original Maxis settings for the total height, sea level, and import scale factor. If your render does not look like the above pictures, this will be why.

  8. Eerie, Erie, Pennsylvania

    G'Day Simtropians,

Today's map was requested courtesy of Ez_money412 here at Club Simtrop, thanks mate. It is of Erie, the fourth largest city in Pennsylvania and situated on it's namesake Lake Erie. The map has been rotated 26.25° clockwise and State Street aligns to the SC4 grid.

This is a real world map and is terrain an scale accurate. Wouanagaine's mapper or terraformer is required to import it into one's game. it measures 49.152km x 28.672km.

A free readme is included with all the goodies (links and instructions). Did I say free? You betcha.

    That's all for now.

  10. Prior Inundatio (10x10 Lg Tiles)

This is a new map in my could-be-a-real-place-but-isn't series. It is 10 x 10 large tiles (100 total). For this Prior Inundatio Map I've been adding features to the source code of the Offline Planet Map Generator. I created this map to appeal to peeps who like a lot of flat land to build mega cities (or lots of flat farms) while still having a realistic, random shape in all three dimensions.  My pictures are shown using the Columbus Terrain Mod 2 which I modified by setting MaxBeachWidth to 0x9 and MaxBeachAltitude to 9. I feel this defines the coast lines better. Water is by @drunkapple.
    The pictures above are:
The full topographical map using colors similar to those in the in game mini map. The brighter green and darker green areas are basically flat in the game. (If you find this image useful for planning out your overall region design, click the image to enlarge it and then do a Save as...) Zoomed in of the the first picture to better show the contour lines. Region view using Region Census In game region view to better show the flat areas extending to the water's edge. In game region view showing it fully painted with Maxis trees. In game city tile view painted with Maxis trees. In game city tile view showing ground only. (So you can better see the flat areas and the amount of slope up the hills.) Another thing I coded in the map generator was to make the coast lines much more friendly. All of the Ferries and Seaports were plopped with no in game terraforming. (Note: Maxis seaports still need a fairly straight stretch of shore.) To use: Put the three files in a folder called Prior Inundatio under your Region folder of SimCity 4 in your Documents.  Then simply render in game with Shift+Control+Alt+r from that region screen like any other grayscale import.
Note: Some Terrain Mods have altered the original Maxis settings for the total height, sea level, and import scale factor. If your render does not look like the above pictures, this will be why.

  14. Temere Locus Full

Introducing Temere Locus Full, the 4th map in my could-be-a-real-place-but-isn't series.
This is a SimCity 4 region I created using the Offline Planet Map Generator. (If you want the program, scroll down there and it's the first linky under the pictures. Get the one that includes the source code because that also has the color table files.) I used 942669825 seed number and magnification set to level to 1.0. To avoid having to adjust the gamma color level in GIMP I set the -i parameter to -0.051 for creating the grayscale image. (This adjusts the initial altitude for the sea level as seen by the Planet.Exe program.) Here's the complete command line I used:
    Planet.Exe -X -pq -s 0.942669825 -m 1.0 -C Greyscale.col -w 3073 -h 1536 -i -0.051 -o 942669825-08-(12x6Lg)-SC4Gray.bmp
^ If that line wraps it's not supposed to when you do that at the Dos command line.
You might notice the height parameter is set to 1536 even tho we want 1537. This is because otherwise the program will create a single pixel white row across the top which turns into a wall when rendering in SC4. So, once the grayscale was generated I pulled it up in GIMP and scaled it to 3073 x 1537. (This is the size for 12 x 6 large city tiles (72 total). Then I added Gaussian Blur of 15.0 both horizontally and vertically to make the rendered map more slope mod friendly. And finally, I set the mode to true grayscale before saving it. Additionally, I modified the Columbus Terrain Mod 2 by setting MaxBeachWidth to 0x9 and MaxBeachAltitude to 9. I feel this defines the coast lines better.
    The pictures above are:
Simulated SC4 height map as seen in game of the mini map with All Off and Zones data views. Same as # 1 with Contour Lines added. Mollweide projection as if this were a planet (cause it looks cool) Satellite view from Region Census Traffic view from Region Census To use: Put the three files in a folder called Temere Locus Full under your Region folder of SimCity 4 in your Documents.  Then simply render in game with Shift+Control+Alt+r from that region screen like any other grayscale import.

  16. Mons Lacus Jr Map

This is a SimCity 4 region I created using the Offline Planet Map Generator. (If you want the program, scroll down there and it's the first linky under the pictures. The one that includes the source code because that also has the color table files.) I used the same seed number as my previous 64 large tile Mon Lacus Map, but this one is a portion of that map having 4 x 4 large tiles (16 total) for peeps who like smaller regions. I used the same 14937910 seed number as before, but I set the magnification level to 2.0. This carves out the middle section horizontally and does not require the vertical stretching that the zoom level 1 does. Also, to avoid having to adjust the gamma color level in GIMP I set the -i parameter to -0.051 for creating the grayscale image. (This adjusts the initial altitude for the sea level as seen by the Planet.Exe program.) Here's the complete command line I used:
    Planet.Exe -X -pq -s 0.14937910 -m 2.0 -C Greyscale.col -w 1025 -h 1024 -i -0.051 -o 14937910-SC4Gray.bmp
^ If that line wraps it's not supposed to when you do that at the Dos command line.
You might notice the height parameter is set to 1024 even tho we want 1025. This is because otherwise the program will create a single pixel white row across the top which turns into a wall when rendering in SC4. So, once the grayscale was generated I pulled it up in GIMP and scaled it to 1025 x 1025. Then I added Gaussian Blur of 15.0 both horizontally and vertically to make the rendered map more slope mod friendly. And finally, I set the mode to true grayscale before saving it.
    The pictures above are:
Lefebvre2 color scheme with contour lines Satellite view from Region Census Traffic view from Region Census My first second third fourth draft of creating my own color table for the program. It's supposed to be similar to the collage of the data view topographical maps I did for the other map, but without me having to do all that tedious copy and precision pasting. Note: It will show more fine detail  because this is before the rendering and does not take into account the merging/averaging that SC4 does when rendering.  The water will also show more detail for elevations. Those (tho averaged in rendering) are still there, but the color ramp for the mini map doesn't have enough divisions to show them. To use: Put the three files in a folder called Mons Lacus Jr under your Region folder of SimCity 4 in your Documents.  Then simply render in game with Shift+Control+Alt+r from that region screen like any other grayscale import.

  17. Mons Lacus Map

This is a SimCity 4 region I created using seed # 14937910 at the Planet Map Generator site. I created the largest zoom level 1 square map it allows which turns out to be a 1000x499 pixel rectangle. In GIMP I then resized it to 2049x2049 pixels. (Proportional distortion doesn't matter since it's a random map.) Then I adjusted the gamma level so the water and land were closer to the original color image. I added Gaussian Blur to smooth it out to make it much more slope mod friendly.  The included Config.bmp is 32x32 pixels to give an 8x8 large tile region. (64 large tiles total.)
    The pictures above are:
Lefebvre2 coloring Lefebvre2 coloring with contour lines every 10 Traffic view from Region Census Satellite view from Region Census A collage of the topographical maps from the data view of each city tile (useful for overall transit network planning) Same map if it were half of a planet (cause it looks cool) Globe with contour lines too Satellite view in game of how mine looks atm (showing a small portion of the whole region) Traffic view in my game atm To use: Put the three files in a folder called Mons Lacus under your Region folder of SimCity 4 in your Documents.  Then simply render in game with Shift+Control+Alt+r from the region screen like any other grayscale import.

Les Cayes (Haitian Creole: Okay), is a town and seaport in southwestern Haiti, with a population of approximately 45,904 people (1995 estimate). Estimates from 2008 place the population at close to 70,000 people. Due to its isolation from the political turmoil of the capital, Port-au-Prince, it is one of Haiti's major ports, with export trade concentrating on mostly coffee and sugarcane. As the world's largest supplier of vetiver, it exports 250 tons annually of this ingredient of perfume and fragrance manufacturing. Minor exports include bananas and timber (source : Wikipedia).
