In my game, the lights come on initially at night, but eventually they turn off. Is this the same problem with the same solution?

Do all the lights go off, or only some of them?

The lampposts stay on, but the lights emanating from buildings turn off.

At what Sim-time does this happen?

I'm sorry, but what is "Sim-time?"

What version of the game do you have?

The Deluxe version; the one that includes the core game and Rush Hour on the same disk.

Sim-time::= The simulated time of day. Hover your mouse over the date to see it.

OK, now is your game up to date? In order to see night-lights on BAT lots, your version number has to be 1.1.640 or greater. To find this, in windows explorer, move to the Program Files folder and from there find the file SimCity 4.exe. It will be down several folders.

Hover your mouse over this file and it will tell you the version number. Report that here, and if it is not current, we can tell you what to do about it.

Alright; it's outdated. Can I update it without damaging my current city files and mods?

Yes, just run the game patch(es) that you need - dependent upon your current version. Your current cities and plugins will remain.

If I may step into this discussion, I saw that my version of the game is 1.1.610 and it is Sku_1. I downloaded sku_1 1.1.638 patch from Sc4 Devotion, extracted it, started, and I've got a message that my game is EP_1 patched. I also did the same with BAT patch 1.1.640 and got the same result.

After this, when I put the cursor over simcity.exe it still says that it is 1.1.610 version.

I got some night lights, but still Bank of Moscow, Burj Al Arab, Giraffe ( I think ) G31 tower etc. are without night lights. I use simfox's day 'n' nite mod. Even though, his Moscow_Red for dark night doesn't work :(

I have no idea what may cause the problem.

^ sounds like you have two copies of the game out there. Look in Program Files and see if you have an (x86) modifier name somewhere in there. What is the exact pathname in your shortcut to start the game?

Well, it may be quite true. Pathname is D:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\simcity 4.exe. I chose D: because it is much larger than C: and can take all the plugins.

I can't find that x86 modifier, or, at least, nothing with such name.

I've found another simcity.exe icon in Apps folder ( D:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\apps\ simcity 4.exe )which is labeled as 1.1.640 version. When I try to start it, it wants me to put CD in the computer. I've got my copy of the game by torrent ( not so proud of it ) since in my country there was no place where I could buy original disc at the time it was released. Can it be a problem?

The second file is the right one. That Apps directory is part of the expected path. If you don't have a disk2 original with version 640 you are out of luck. If you purchase a legal download copy the version number will be 641 which runs without a disk in the drive.

I'd suggest a reinstall after getting clear of the other two copies. You might want to lay out a little more cash and get a legal copy from someone like Gamer's Gate

Well, the problem is that I don't know where is that second copy hiding. As I said to you, by searching the computer I only found one simcity.exe 1.1.610 version and one simcity 1.1.640 in Apps folder. I do have both installation cds in iso format, but they are unmounted ( with 1.1.610 version ). I think they cannot impact the patching while they are unmounted.

When I try to patch my existing version with new 1.1.638 version, at first it says that there is not previous file, but still there is another file with the same name. After I click OK, it says that patching is done. The same thing happens when I try to patch BAT update version 1.1.640. I both situations, I got a final message that patch had been done, so I thought everything will be right.

Thanks for help ( again ), you've been very kind. I'll try to find newer version somewhere, but since the situation is like this, I may just accept that may cities won't have glorious nightlight since that update can't be done.

I think the discussion here has gone as far as it can due to the rules of the site:

Thanks.
