I kind of bounce around on projects and abandon/return to them on a whim, but I try to release stuff sometimes . My old releases were made with gmax, but all of my current and future projects are being worked on in Autodesk 3DSmax 2014.   3. MGB BATs

    I've been busy making a number of things using SC4BAT and recently moved to 3DS Max because I suppose I should learn it sooner or later if I'm serious about making stuff. I've already shown off the Rail Depot which is progressing well, but I've a few problems to iron out still. Here's another model I'm close to finalising, it's a small supermarket/shop that I used to frequent: It's an M&S Simply Foods these days, but the actual building was converted from a TGI Fridays restaurant. As such, I intend to convert the model to be a restaurant and also a shop. For the shop at least, I'm hoping to make a couple different brands and maybe move some of the features about so the model is more flexible. Note the phone box in the picture? I've always wanted to see a KX100 BT Phonebox in SC4. If you are not from the UK, you might think we use the Red phone boxes (K7) that are commonly associated with the UK. The reality is, since the mid 80's these have been massively phased out. Ironically I see more Red boxes around Continental Europe than I ever do back home. Here are some on a lot with other SC4 phone boxes for comparison. The red ones are Bombardiere's fantastic K7 boxes. Then the smaller gray/silver box is from Girafe, the white one is from Porkie. I've based my scale on the first, which I think fits the game, sadly all the wonderful detail of the phone box is totally lost when rendering such a small object, even in HD:

  5. Can someone explain the method to create model textures just like the Maxi's ones? I've been trying to create these textures on Photoshop, but I am struggling on that. I think we have a lack of tutorials on that. The only information I found was very basic, that gives information about Hue / Saturation, Gradient, etc. I am looking for more than that. I want understand how they create the details. Maxis textures does not look photo realistic at all, they all look hand made textures. Can someone provide some information on that?
  6. I'm going to start editing some of the models from Sim City 4. I read somewhere that these models are not editable, though, but are a container for the models. So, how exactly would I import a Sim City 4 game-original model to use to create new models? Such like this: Edit the model(s) of the Fire Station(s) to create new looking fire station?
  7. Greetings fellow humanoids and city-builders! I have, for quite some time, been following all the amazing creations that you've been making, and first of all, I want to say thanks to all of you for your awesome assets and supportive attitude, you've really made Cities Skylines a much better game . As you'll likely notice, I'm new, and I have also been interested in creating models for the game for quite a while. I want to create more modern, even futuristic, buildings (not sci-fi, just high-tech-eco-buildings), and more modest and realistic modern buildings, and some larger structures (like malls, apartment complexes, public service buildings, schools, modern factories) if I can (once I get the hang of it), and some other random things maybe. I will probably take a long time to make and publish things, though. I, however, have almost no experience with using 3D Modelling software and texturing, and virtually no experience programming (it's the idea that counts, right?). So, having seen how many of you have given your support to others, I'll be uploading progress and be looking for help here, so I can make "good" quality assets. I do have Blender, and I'll be using that for modelling. So, I know there are many resources here for help, which I'll be using, but if anyone can give me pointers as to which topics, articles, etc. I should prioritise consulting, and where to start, being such a newbie, I would be very grateful. Cheers Also, I would like to mention that my computer's specs are barely enough to even run the game (integrated graphics, I know ), so, above all, I will take priority in making sure my models are as efficient as possible so as to not lag my own computer to death. So any recommendations to make a model lighter would be very welcome.

Im starting this one thread so I dont choke up the forums with WIPS, sorry didnt quite notice that practice until recently, Ill be releasing my lava plop first but the main real asset ive been working on is a local treasure here in Asheville, the magnificent Biltmore Estate, still Americas largest home to this date, and nothing short of spectacular. Below is the wireframe, I got inspiration from looking at the somewhat simpleish model in google earth, but of course that file from sketchup was way wrong so I decided to go all in blender, which I know more than sketchup. Im sure this might need the sub buildings mod or perhaps not, but its HUGE! lol Ill be adding images and such as I progress. Below is the current wireframe, im still at 4,383 verts which I should be able to reduce more. By the way theres still another huge complex that goes off to the right you can see in the reference image below, ill make that later as an addition, as well as the gardens & grounds with the statue of Goddess Diana and all This asset is being fashioned for a bigger project im working on to recreate all of Asheville NC and neighboring Marshall NC to visualize the many active, planned & proposed large scale infrastructure changes here... like the long overdue changes in the highways through downtown beginning now, extensive flood zone & recreational work to the giant French broad river that snakes through the region, and the new large buildings slated for build in the city core. Ill also recreate the most impressive unique buildings throughout the region then use general models from the game and workshop to approximate the rest.

  10. I know that modelling new buildings for Simcity 2013 is a time-intensive activity, but what about re-skinning current building models? The reason im asking is that i've recently started a tourist/casino city with lots of commercial space for Hotels. The medium/high wealth hotels look quite nice and realistic, but the low wealth-high density hotels are just UGLY... The main cause is that all of them have the same brown-brickstone walls. I would love some variation on this (other colour pallets, plaster- or concrete walls, etc.). I remember that in one of the official game updates they kind of did the same thing with the RCI buildings (no new models, but colour and height variations on existing models). If anyone has more information on re-skinning/re-colouring building models, and how to do this: i would love to hear from you!

Studios 'Hollywood' will be a purpose built film production complex offering film makers and studios one of the largest movie studio in the country of Hollywood is look like a airport expansion to create your very own movie studio but the Hollywood would be able to get a changing with your very own location name is called 'REGIONWOOD' or so whatever. I'm working on it with the 3D designs and will be looked forward to get the upload pics with their future upcoming modeling back lots of the studio was just demolition to tearing down the old movie studio hangars and buildings at Warner Bros. Studios Hollywood. Warner Bros has now been a new logo design with the entrance and back lots of the studios. Warner Bros. is the best studio facility in Hollywood. Huge back-lot with multiple large sound stages, great for filming ANYTHING from a modern drama to a period piece. The studios will make Warner Bros. the only Hollywood film studio with a permanent base in the SimCity 4 or SimCity region. I had got a upload pic with this grass. Building the wall with the North Gate for Warner Bros. Warner Bros has now been a new logo design on the North Gate. Warner Bros has now been a new entrance with the car park on the studio lot. However, I will be upload more pics with Warner Bros. at the Production Office later and into next week with the sound stages and much more. Enjoy!

It also contains the Maxis RCI Building Prop Mod for those that need it (I think it was only availible from the SC4 site wich has (since the appearace of SCS) dissapeared from the face of the Earth) Installation- Put everything in your Plugins folder.
