  1. Just got my pc stuck in stand-by because I tried to do something at the same time as it was going into stand-by mode. Apparently even 8 cores isn't enough.

      Computer: Preparing to standby...
      You: Wait, do something for me.
      Computer: Starting to do something else...
      Computer: Can't do something else, I'm supposed to standby...
      Computer: Can't standby, I'm supposed to do something else...
      Computer: Can't do something else, I'm supposed to standby...
      Computer: Can't standby, I'm supposed to do something else...
      Computer: Can't do something else, I'm supposed to standby...
      Computer: Can't standby, I'm supposed to do something else...

      Etc.

      Had to turn off the power and turn it back on to turn the PC on again. Sounds like deadlock might very well be it.

      And just in case the power button hangs and you don't have a power switch on the supply, remember, you can always simulate a total power failure by either pulling the plug or throwing the circuit breaker.  There used to be a time when users had actual direct mechanical control of the machine.  Computer scientists evidently really are trying to create an AI singularity.
