Please help us for July   06/30/2017

This month we're hoping for a little bit of a boost this month or next, in addition to covering the regular bills, we could benefit from some hardware upgrades. STEX Collector's Set gifts can now be sent to you via digital download as well as regular mail if you wish! Every donation dollar goes toward keeping Simtropolis online and humming along. Your contribution counts! Hardware Upgrades As our website community software improves with more and more features, and as we bolt on additional features such as chat, the increased load to handle all these new toys is taking the server a bit to task. You may have noticed that we'd been forced to temporarily disable the chat as we worked out allocating resources for more optimal performance. Following this, we've applied a number of 'soft' changes such as caching options and experimented with server configurations (nginx as proxy, for example), so the hardware aspect is also an area we'd like to focus on. The last time we upgraded hardware was back in 2012, prior to the release of SC13. Your contribution means a lot! Your donation will go toward helping us to 1.) migrate to a newer server or 2.) at least get some ram/cpu/storage updates and any other infrastructure hardware or services. Donate and Get a Gift or Donate Any Amount Thanks so much! - Dirktator & The Admins

    Interview with Cockatoo

    Kevin

    When did you join Simtropolis?

I joined Simtrop in November 2006.

    Why did you join Simtropolis?

Well, ha, I’ll be honest… originally it was only for the STEX not unlike most people. There’s a story behind it actually. I’d been playing SC4 casually since 2004, but it was only in November of ’06 that I finally bought the Rush Hour expansion pack and realized what an awesome game it could become when you added custom content. I was browsing the pages of the SimCity.ea.com exchange and one of the first things I came across was a pirated copy of Rickk’s Washington Mutual Tower, but the download was broken. In the description it mentioned the word Simtropolis somewhere, so I guessed that there might be a custom content website called Simtropolis.com. Oh how right I was, I found the STEX, totally overlooking the forums and went mental downloading stuff. It was only two months later I discovered the forums and started to post a CJ. If it wasn’t for that one pirated advertisement for Simtropolis, I may have never even found the site!

Did you ever expect to win the MOTM?

Of course not! I’m still very surprised about it, seems as there are so many people out there who have not won this yet that are much more deserving than I am.

Why did you think you were nominated for the MOTM?

Well, it says I have a friendly presence in the forums and for my creations on the STEX. It is a special honor for me especially to win the MOTM for my STEX uploads, that really gives me so much motivation to keep uploading. Thank you very much to whoever nominated me!

Will winning the MOTM inspire you to do more for the community?

It defiantly will …Must become BAT machine and feed STEX!... lol.

What do you do outside of Sim City 4 and Simtropolis in your free time?

Just normal teenager stuff. I can play piano… just a random fact.

What are your favorite Simtropolis moments?

I have many, the people here are great. Of course my favorite moment of all time was the ’07 Trixie season, that was fun, especially when I won one for a totally un-expected reason. Another good memory I have here was when I was a total newb, looking through all of the CJ’s of the time, and the STEX, and being totally blown away by what I saw. EYECANDY was the CJ that always stuck in my head, so was Paulvmontfort’s HSBC Tower and Bixel’s Arch.

    Do you have a job?

No, I need one. Have you got one for me?

If you were stuck on a deserted island with one Simtropolis member, who would it be?

If we had a copy of 3DS Max and a laptop, then Simfox of any of the HK team would be great… they could teach me how to do some of that real tricky stuff.

What has been your main contributions to the site?

I guess my uploads, and I hope people enjoyed my CJ’s I posted earlier in the year and over 2007.

Do you have anything else that you would like to share with us?

Thanks for taking time out to read this, you probably had many better things you could have done, so hurry up and get back to whatever it was you were doing!
