    How to make a custom lot with the Lot Editor

    What you need:

    SC4BAT

    Plugin Manager

    Lot Editor Make sure you download all 3 files on the page.

    Gmax

    1st: Open the SC4Bat.

    Zoom in on the Top view in the Top-Left corner. Make a box that is very small.

    See? Very Small.

    #2: Click on the hammer button on the top-right corner of the right part of the screen. Click BAT>Quality(Select Draft)>Export. Make sure you save it as draft quality.

    Save it as anything you want but I will save it as project001. This is very helpful for later. After you press save it will show pictures of the little box in different zooms and angles. Do not X out of the box. When it is done it will tell you.

    When this comes up press yes.

    #3: Open the plugin manager

    Find your item and drag it into the parks category.

    Then follow the instructions in the following picture.

    When you are done with that click Apply. Then close the Plugin Manager.

    #4: Open the lot editor. When it asks you for a lot to edit, search pz1x1 and click the one selected in the picture.

    Change the highlighted areas to 90 and 50.

    Now delete all of the props by dragging a box over them on the right part of the screen. And change the base texture.

    Go to the building tab and press “replace item”. Find a select your building, I named it project001. Then put it in the back corner of your lot.

    Now add props and trees and you're almost done!

    Then click the Save As button and save your new park.

    And that is how you make a custom lot using the lot editor! You can do this with other things like editing police stations or schools. Just drag your building into the right category in the plugin manager and open a building (in the lot editor) in the menu that you want your lot to show up in.

    Have fun making parks and buildings!

    @fundevin: Go to the 'building' tab, and then look for the replace item above the replace family button. Can't miss it :)

    Help! In the hammer panel, the BAT button is gone, it was just working.

    Fundevin: I Know it's been a long time since your post, but if you still haven't solved the problem I found the issue. I had the same problem as you. Your lot editor version is 1.0.1.0, that is the wrong version. there is a newer version who's zip file is installed with the BAT, then you need to unzip and install that one.On my computer it was dropped in C:\PROGRA~2\Maxis\SIMCIT~1\Apps. (this is where the sc4 exe file is installed) It's version number is 1.0.12.0

    After installing this, the problem was gone

    i do all steps correctly, now i have the .sc4Lot and .sc4Desc and the files are in the Plugins folder as the others but i cannot see in the game, not apear in any menu for build... HELP!!!

    How do you make a (for example) a existing airport bigger in size? I have with 10 and depth 29 but I want 22x35. How do I change this??

    you can change the lot's size from the 'Lot' tab in the Lot Editor where it states the Width and Depth of the lot

    you'll have to add base textures, etc, to the new areas since they'll be blank.....it wont save without a complete base

    Sorry found the update for lot editor in the comments... May I suggest that this article is updated so users know that they need SC4 Lot editor v1.0.12.0 for this to work as it was driving me crazy lol.

    While this tutorial is very much appreciated, some of the instructional photos are missing which makes this very incomplete. For example, what steps to follow in the second part of # 3 in the Plugin Manager? Can the author update this to include all of the photos?

    • All of you live in so big places! Here in Chile, except for very rich people, social housing sizes are normal house and apartment sizes, surely because more than half of the country surface is totally inhabitable mountain range (aka, solid granite rock). For example, a single bedroom apartment in the center of Santiago is 'big' when measuring 40 sq meters, and a three bedroom one could go up to 70 sq meters. For houses is no different a 1959 law (the famous DFL2) allows tax exemptions for houses smaller than 70 sq meters, and a small benefit between 70 and 100 sq meters, so most houses are as small as to not pay the tax, or aren't simply legalized. In a similar fashion, the law also allows for lot subdivisions down to 160 sq meters, and most lots in poor surburbs are exactly of that size (my house, for example, was built originally as a three bedroom, 64 sq meters building on a tiny 162 sq meters lot, on land bought by the government for social housing). What is even crazier is that now many upper middle class families are buying even tinier houses (something like a 60 sq meters building on a 12x8 meters lot) on gated communities, that circumvent minimum lot sizes by selling communitary rights to settle instead of property of the land where the house is built. I don't want to see the kind of legal infighting that will ensue when those people try to sell their houses.
    • That last part is my primary motivation as well: apart from using my - limited - C# knowledge for something different than web sites/applications (which is my day job), which enables me to learn, or in the very least get acquainted with things I'd never work with professionally, I find it incredibly rewarding to see people proudly sharing screenshots spiced up with Eyecandy, and reading comments on my Workshop page about how much joy people get out of my work - that's a bigger prize than money could ever offer (I make a good living with my job, so what money donations would bring to the table isn't going to impact my financial situation). As Mr_Maison said, I'm a player first and foremost, and when I read comments on my stuff that mirror my own sentiment towards the amazing work of other modders/modelers, it just fills me with joy - and that's pretty much all I want from my work (funny aside: I showed a friend of mine, who doesn't play the game, my Workshop page, and they first thing he said was how amazed he was by the positive and friendly vibe, about the good-natured and easy-going way people interacted with each other within our little community). As far as monetization goes: one of my biggest problems with it is that it will split the player base in sections, whereas it currently is one big community: obviously not everyone gets, or can afford all DLC. I see plenty of questions on Reddit what the cheapest place to buy a DLC is, or when there will be a sale - I doubt each and every one of them is extremely frugal, and while for me personally I sometimes catch myself thinking "C'mon dude, it's just 10 bucks", I know that that is unfair, and for plenty of players it simply is an expense that needs to be carefully considered (it's easy to loose track of such things when you are fortunate enough to be in a position that you don't have to worry about money). But apart from official DLC, on the whole it's currently pretty much a level playing field for all players.
      I don't want a situation where some players can afford to get all the bells and whistles, whereas others cannot: at least not on the level of community-produced content (DLC is a different matter). However, there are several approaches that could combine the best of both worlds: the best one, in my opinion, may be a phone app-like approach, with a free and a premium version. The free version will contain basic functionality, the paid version will add additional "premium": this way, in case of a traffic mod, all players would get the basic features such as lane selection and traffic light toggling, whereas the pro version would add features like timed traffic lights, configurable speed limits - I think you guys get the gist of what I'm trying to say. I think this approach would be a pretty inclusive way of offering free community content for all, but ads an additional layer which would create a modest stream of revenue for modders (for modelers it's a different matter, although I reckon they could split a collection in a free base set, and a paid 'plus pack' with some additional, more exclusive or detailed assets). Ideally though I'd prefer the situation to remain as is: no monetization of custom content unless strictly donation-based (if anything, Steam should make that easier [Steam Wallet integration?], but I'm afraid they would sooner or later want to get a cut if they did). It's inevitable some start creating content hoping to make money, but personally I think that's not the right approach: creating custom content should be something one does as a hobby, as a way to give back something to the community - any cent made from it should be viewed as a pure bonus, not something that is a given. I know not everyone will agree, and that's ok - above is simply my own personal view on this matter.
    • Oh yeah, I get it. MushyMushy talking about houses and I just realized now I never lived in a house  . What's that? A building with only one appartment to only one family?  
      Here we do not have many large buildings thanks to a very stupid law about land use. Briefly is a coefficient which depends on the size and location of the lot. This coefficient determines the maximum area that a building can have, and generally this coefficient does not leave the buildings have more than 150 meters or very wide and high at the same time. In my town this rule is being reviewed after the withdrawal of a construction company for a building of 350 meters high due to bureaucracy and cost due to this coefficient.
      It's interesting what you said about in the US this culture of living in apartments be different. I always see families living in houses and independent adults in the apartments there indeed. Here people find living in apartment more practical and have a culture of living with other family members as well. But I'm sure about one thing , I definitely would rather live in a 50m² apartment in NYC than in a 300 here.
