The 3 Best Modern Alternatives To SimCity

    jacksunny

Although electronic gaming has been around nearly as long as computers themselves, certain genres tend to rise and fall. Today the first person shooter is supreme, and a parade of military-inspired titles continues to advance on PCs and consoles.

One genre that’s unfortunately withered is the city simulator. This type of game was never a huge success compared to action-packed shooters and real-time strategy games, but it’s always had a place in the hearts of some PC gamers. While the vaunted SimCity series has ended (for now) with the critically despised SimCity Societies, there are a few alternatives to SimCity that carry on the legacy.

It's a tragedy that Simcity is dead. Thanks a lot, EA.

We've got sequels to all three of those game coming up, so we'll have to see what Cities XL 2012, Anno 2070, and Tropico 4 have to offer.

I do not know what's going on at the head of EA games, why they did not follow the examples of SimCity 4 and SimCity Societies did not like him? :rage:

Despite the Tilted Mill Entertainment, the game maker should have thought of that. How good would that Maxis is back.

EA made a very risky move with SCS and they lost. And people must remember that SCS wasn't aimed or marketed at the Sim City gamers. It was aimed at the people who play the SIMS. And the EA suits thought that people who played the SIMS would buy SCS. How ever this didn't happen so SCS was a flop as we all know.

What really annoys me that companies like EA and the Suits who make the decisions are never held accountable when things go bad like SCS. If i had owned EA and they destroyed a franchise. I would have sacked the management no questions asked.

The problem with EA is they don't care about the bad reputation they have. Image for a company is everything but it doesn't seem to bother EA. And there is no doubt there bad reputation has caused them some serious damage.

EA is a titan, and they know that. However, their arrogance will be there downfall. EA has been incurring HUGE financial losses over the past few years, yet they continue to acquire new studios. They just bought PopCap for over 750 Million Dollars.

I really hope Maxis will return with a new Simcity one day, but that doesn't look too probable. Hell, EA is even slowly killing one of their biggest brands, the Sims. The Sims 3 has never had a good expansion so far. All are overpriced, buggy, and skimpy on content.

I really wonder what goes through the heads of EA's executives. Just because an inferior spin-off of a series doesn't sell well, that doesn't mean you kill the series! I seriously hope EA goes bankrupt. Then their devs can find studios that actually care about quality over quantity.

I know what they were thinking $$$$$. I don't think the series was killed off because of SCS. Its just EA doesn't cater for the hardcore gamer anymore. They are only interested in casual gamers because they think they can make a quick buck.

The only way we will get a new game is if Will Wright makes one which is very unlikely. Will would have to leave the Stupid Fun Club and go independent of EA to make a new game.

I honestly don't know why Will Wright is still with the Stupid Fun Club. I haven't heard anything from that particular group. He really ought to take control of the Sims Studio, because that group is absolutely wrecking The Sims 3. They seem to have no idea what they are doing half the time.

Well, it all comes down to EA chasing the buck down the street. In corporations of that magnitude the left hand has no idea what is going on with the right hand. Conglomerates like this are the curse of the consumer and may they all live in interesting times.

That's surprising, because the past few quarters they posted serious losses.
