EA canvasing player feedback on offline mode and content for future expansion packs

    PgdbE3r.png

EA may be looking at the possibility of adding offline play and other features to SimCity as part of its future updates for its world-building series, according to a customer survey that has surfaced on Reddit.

The survey (screenshots) seeks player feedback on potential upcoming features. These include: farms, faster rebuilding after disasters, over and underpass roads, cities twice the size of current land plots, terraforming, cooperative city building with friends, and Classic mode. The latter is described as allowing players to, “In offline or online mode, play a single, fully functioning city using cheats and unlocks that allow you to create your perfect city.”

    User Feedback

If you ask me, it'd be better if they were to try and find out who hasn't bought the game but is interested and ask them why they haven't bought it.

Well, must be that the Sc13 money cow dried up and now needs to be upgraded with features that were supposed to be there in the first place. Too bad the damage to the reputation's series is forevermore tainted.

It would be good to pay attention to what is the "Classic Mode":

"In offline or online mode, play the single Functioning city using cheats and unlocks Allowing you to create the perfect city"

It seems to me there is absolutely no promise here.  It's a poll asking for user input, and then the article above talks about the things often demanded by players.  There seems to be no indication at all that Maxis/EA is even considering such things?

Nvm, not the kind of poll I thought it was.  I guess it does have some promise, but no guarantee.

Do not hold your breath.  The glassbox thingy isn't up to the job, and so what will they do?  The kinds of Simsy thing they are trying to do is not really possible on a PC or even a big server.

In the end, they'll have to fall back to stochastic simulation to make all this stuff work.  Wonder how much they've spent on that parametric engine?  Whatever, it was a waste to use it for SimCity.

    'Twas Simsy and the customers

Did gyre and gimball in the queue.

    All mimsy was the Internet,

    And the servers went down.

Hmm a bit late if true, they should have asked the members of Simtropolis and other such forums before they even started building the game.

They were adamant about making the game online only to fight piracy. So what happened to piracy now, eh? Has it magically disappeared so that they are even considering the possibility of an offline mode now?

    MAKE UP YOUR MIND, EA.

If only they could've done this survey BEFORE the game was made...

    - offline singleplayer

    - "meaningful" AI (Sims behave like people, not like one-day nonsense resource agents)

    - full and free moddability

    - larger maps (at least 4x current size)

    - terraforming

    - zoning like in SC4 (lot size, density)

    - zoning density based on zoning, not on road size

    - adjacent city tiles so that we can create huge metropolitan areas

    - possibility to save and load games at any time

    - map creator

    - subways

They know/knew what everyone wanted, when there was this huge outcry about online only.

It's not like they really have to research what consumers want, we have told them over and over again.

This is just another PR spin to make it seem like they are taking their time to listen to their consumers, when they should have done it in the first place.

    + (for me)

-monorail (can be placed at the top of the road or at least avenue)

-elevated rail (can be placed at the top of the road or at least avenue)

-Ped mall tiles & pedestrian bridge

    -highway (both MHW & RHW)

I'll never install Origin on my system. Remove that requirement and we'll talk. After you at least triple the city plot sizes and allow offline saves for each city so I can wreck and reload it.

If I remember correctly, didn't lots of people do exactly that long before release? And I also recall it was quite clear from the responses during development, that were not really listening to anyone then.(or now either)

    So, why expect different now?

I clearly recall them promising that in Sc13 each little 'sim' would have there own 'life'. Get outta bed, hop in there gas-burning mobile trash-bin. Clog roads, slowly commute there way to work, eat lunch, surf porn on the companies computers, commute back to work, watch  Dancing with the Sims with Ms Sim, fall asleep, rinse, repeat.

Well, they couldnt even deliver on that promise. But there is rather deeper problem in that no one was really interested in that feature at all. I certainly wasn't. It wasn't a selling feature, or anything that make me want to buy SC13. In fact, I saw right away the computing requirements for a such a fine-grained, and useless feature couldn't really be implemented in anything like a realistic fashion even with the most powerful of desktops, even if anyone actually wanted that feature.

And that only touches on *one* small corner of a crap filled sandbox.

Scrap 2013, start over from scratch. Give Simciters what they actually asked for in first place. I doubt current release is salvageable in its current state no matter how much tinkering around the edges they promise to do.

the problem is, that's meant we basically say a new game (nah, dude, we don't want another game, we want sc4 feature in new simcity (a REALLY REALLY great expansion can worth 50 bucks))

with great expansion (and they support full mod, then. like sc4), my money will gone to maxis this or next year

i'm not EA fanboy, but why you don't want origin? yeah, basically it's just steam but worse (for now, we don't know what will happen in future), but the size is not above 200MB, just for launch a game, i think it's worth it (i remember origin allow offline mode, like steam)
