My initial situation (hard, medium map, valleys) until year 6 - I laid out a basic village plus blueprinting the Trade Posts and planned expansion across the river... with the fewest people possible (17 adults and 7 kids), meaning I did not have too many resources yet...

I spare you the pains of the growing years with starvation and disease, cheating traders, fires and other calamities... so we jump right into year 115, where things have already settled a bit...

The original village has filled out nicely... Logs and Firewood being the prime export item -

Large agricultural parcels and pastures were added in the western and eastern areas...

Lakeview - the 'ritzy' part of town... Even in banishment, some do better than others -

town05-08.jpg

As the nouveau-riche brewer's wife puts it (with plenty rolling eyes):

Quote

"See, we work hard for all this - I don't like the cramped downtown! I do want a clean uncluttered market nearby. Efficiency? Sheesh! If it takes three Foresters to keep up the grounds and our private orchards, so be it. The fresh fruit and veggies our hired Gatherers bring in daily have no match! How can people live without a Herbalist right next door? Would you put your kids in school with those flea-ridden Trade Post urchins? The Hunting Lodge? Well, what do you do on weekends? And yes, naturally we NEED a private marina for our boats!"

Waltzes off shaking her head.

Timber! A typical logging pickup area... The three Forester's Lodges (Logging) along the diagonal, with a support 'pod' (Hunters, Barn, Stock Pile, Housing) -

Well, here is just a very small community from Mt. Adam... Actually more of a tourist location :-)

* A full update with a somewhat larger town will come soon - I just finished putting in the new railway system from the latest NAM... and needed some getting used to it LOL...

Well, you might have gotten the feeling that the above photo-tour is somewhat... incomplete. And you are right - that city never survived... You see, it was built on the of side this guy here -

wf9.jpg

Then one day I SimGod decided to unleash a little bad weather and disaster and have some fun... yeah well, that lasted until I blacked out and did something... very... VERY... wrong... *:ninja:

So here is just a parting shot - the last we'll ever see of this once-well-to-do town...

Goober Town Part III

View Album

Still got a little backlog from 2013... But finally got around to wrap up this city... :-)

A quick look at a modest CBD...

1024icon.png

city-prt3-01.jpg

But main focus is on the story of the large produce yard - established in the 40s, it had reached a point where it was just too small for the many products from the region (and the large modern rigs)... an overview -

city-prt3-02.jpg

The old North Fruit and Vegetable Yard, where drivers would get into fistfights frequently over who could pull in or out first... it is scheduled to be torn down and replaced completely...

city-prt3-03.jpg

The new Yard with its better facilities is mostly finished...

city-prt3-04.jpg

city-prt3-06.jpg

The SouthEnd Housing Project will be extended eastwards, but new ground needs to be broken first...

city-prt3-05.jpg

An older area slowly being gentrified...

city-prt3-07.jpg

And so the city continues to spread...

city-prt3-08.jpg

So... this is it for Goober Town... Getting too big for my taste, so I'll be moving on...

A last note -

Here is a pic from the fruit market in Berlin that inspired me... well, what actually inspired me were older pics, stories and news clippings I read about the fighting among truckers when that place became way too small (sometime in the 60s or 70s)...

Rising High

View Album

Here is a city that took me quite a while to grow... But first for something else - some of you have been asking about my regions and why I don't usually show them... Well, as I have explained a number of times, I do play regional, but I am not really meticulous about it. Too often I just get side-tracked, usually during the development of custom content. So I start a "sideshow" in one of my regions, but suddenly it develops a life of its own and doesn't really match up anymore with the tile it started in... Plus, I'm in the habit of shifting custom content in and out quite haphazardly - so sometimes I do lose track... I'm just not disciplined enough LOL...

So anyway, here is a shot of one of these partial regions - this evolved probably over the last 6 or 7 updates of Paengia, and as you can see - it's already 'fraying' along the edges ;-)

region124.jpg

So don't expect this to have any 'logical' continuity - matter of fact I'm already fiddling around in a completely different region again, with different terrain, content and mods... so there ;-P

Okay, enough of this - let's move on to more important things -

This town is caught between old and new... (and ugly) ;-)

Alas, the city had a problem. The defunct mine shaft turned museum draws a moderate number of tourists...

But the derelict industrial compound failed to draw high profile investors... a sad sight at day or night.

Some entrepreneurs then decided to bring entertainment and nightlife to town - with mixed results, as their plan did not only attract restaurants, movie houses, discos, night clubs, dance halls and such... there was also an influx of rather seedy shops and stores, and a certain increase in crime - though nothing the town can't cope with in times to come.

During daytime, the area is still a bit drab...

This city is still growing in many parts, while some districts are mostly done. So our extended hike will take a few days...

Next time(s) we'll visit fancy eastern suburbs, small docking services, the district's huge freight truck station, dense downtown RES and COM, and some small nearby 'hamlets', all busy restaurating... and with some facilities still under construction...

Mountainview Railyard

Well, I'm terribly sorry, but I got hit with sanctions for exceeding my bandwidth (the manner in which this has been done will be a matter for a rant at another place and time)...

So here are the images, a bit hapazard because the upload module is not comfortable - but at least the pics are available... I'll fix everything up once I get these issues sorted.
