District of Brancaccio

Suburbs Papireto. Old station area. Here you can feel a strong smell of sweat. The stink of tar mixed with those of the sewers erupted.

The people who live here, at the edge of town, can not be happy. The community has been beset in years past by assaults and robberies. For many life is not a bowl of cherries.

But this is also Papireto, and you can not hide.

Welcome to Brancaccio.

00intro1861_zps7839ba03.gif

The Five Days of Macondo were a major event in the Revolutionay year of 1861. On March, a rebellion arose in the city of Papireto.

Macondo was a colony of Fringuellonia Empire, ruled by the Emperor Fringuello II. The population was subject to high taxation, and most of the inhabitants of Macondo were in conditions of absolute poverty. Who is opposed to the imperial government was arrested. In addition, the plague of 1859 decimated the population of Papireto.

The emperor and the rulers of Macondo were indifferent to the problems of macondiani.

In March of 1861 the Emperor Fringuello II, to strengthen his presence on the territory of Macondo, arranged the marriage between his son and the Countess Serbelloni Viendalmare Mazzanti, daughter of Count Guido Serbelloni Viendalemale Mazzanti, governor of the Macondo’s colony.

The people did no accept the news well. And so they organized a protest in front of the seat of government, where the Emperor was with his family

01_zps3a8eced3.jpg

follows the story of a contemporary chronicler…

it seems that the imperial guards have used the cannons against the unarmed people. On the streets of Papireto there are hundreds of deaths…

02_zps7dcefd10.jpg

...the revolt broke out ... the citizens of Papireto raise barricades in the streets of macondo. They attack and defend themselves with rifles and stones ...

03_zpsb3bb6ad1.jpg

04_zps9328f03e.jpg

the imperial guards were defeated in the "Piazza della mole".

05_zpsa126ed89.jpg

…The Insurgents are moving into the Government Palace… Many government officials, including the Count Servelloni Viendalmare Mazzanti, are captured.

…Emperor saw the difficulty of resisting under siege in the city centre and he preferred to retire at the “Reggia di Macondo”...

06_zpse41fea06.jpg

07_zpsd83efebf.jpg

…At the “Reggia di Macondo” Emperor meets thousands of protesters and decides to escape in the countryside of Macondo.

08_zps57d80a50.jpg

09_zpsb9cd60e8.jpg

The news of the revolt spreads in the countryside of Macondo. Thus, near Casteldipollo, the emperor and his family are captured by a group of rioters and are conducted in Papireto…

10_zps8758c692.jpg

..People run to Piazza del Popolo, where was set up the scaffold. Justice will be done.

11_zps8011e56a.jpg

In the 17 March 1861 the leaders of the revolt proclaim independence. Born the Republic of Macondo.

PORTO MACONDO - A little coastal town

Porto Macondo is a nice little coastal town on the "Golfo di Castellammare". Early in the morning you will see fishermen going out to sea in their typical boats, later returing with freshly caught fish for the local markets and restaurants. You can book a guided boat trip or even rent a boat yourself to explore the "Golfo di Castellammare".

In the summer period Porto Macondo's harbor comes to life at night and the area becomes a pedestrian zone, where you can visit several bars, pubs and restaurant. Sitting on a terrace overlooking the harbor, you can enjoy a cocktail, Macondian wine, handmade ice-cream or a refreshing Macondian granita.

Welcome to the Republic of Macondo!

Hello, Start by to introduce myself. I am Gigi, an Italian boy with a passion for this game.

Capital of this state is Papireto, an European-style city located in the center of the Mediterranean. Papireto has developed on the banks of the River Cyane. In recent years, it is especially famous for its monuments, squares and gardens. Papireto is surrounded by lush countryside and extends to the sea, following the course of the River Cyane. Behind him is the Bonifato Mount, on whose slopes are the medieval villages, surrounded by unspoilt nature.

I am president of this republic, and together with my faithful collaborator "Mignolo" we will try to introduce to you one of the most romantic and unforgettable regions in the world!

The origins

The story of Papireto , like that of many other Italian cities has ancient roots. Papireto already existed in Roman times.

It was called Papiretum and was founded on the banks of the river cyan by the commander Gaius Iulius Macundus in 49 a.c.

Its name derives from the Latin papȳru , marsh grass of the family Cyperaceae , which was abundant along the banks of the river cyan and which was used for the production of parchment.

Thanks to the production of papyrus in a short time the Roman settlement became a large city . The inhabitants of neighboring places moved from the countryside to the city. So it was that it developed a large Roman forum where they carried out the main economic activities of the city. Testimonials can be found in the book " hystoria de Papiretum " by the great Roman historian Marcus Tullius Cardone .

Until 1948 the only visible traces of Roman rule in the city were the stele of " Piazza del Popolo " and the Pantheon , which survived at the time, is one of the main attractions in the center of Papireto .

04_zps51ffb467.png

02_zps073851c0.png

03_zpsd0e907be.png

In July of 1948 , not far from the historic city center , a veterinary doctor noticed some Latin inscriptions on a cattle trough .

01_zps111df6e0.png

Following the discovery excavations were undertaken in the area and in a short time it was discovered that the trough was actually a part of a Roman aqueduct . After about 10 years of excavations brought to light a part of the Roman forum described by Marco Tullio Cardone . Were returned to light the remains of the Temple of Jupiter, The House of the Vestal Virgins , part of the Sacred Way and the Basilica Macunda . It was also found a giant statue of Venus and the remains of houses.

In 1985 , during excavations for the construction of the underground were discovered other archaeological finds from the Roman period . Thus were resumed excavations which brought to light the remains of a Roman amphitheater and a large bronze statue of the commander Gaius Iulius Macundus . They were discovered the remains of the Temple of Vesta and a triumphal arch erected between 202 and 203, which was dedicated by the Senate to the Roman emperor Septimius Severus .
