Map of Downtown Hamilton

Downtown Hamilton is bounded roughly by Interstate 70 to the west, Circus Street to the east, Lake Arruhu to the north, and 14th Street to the south. Interstate 70 has two downtown exits (West 6th Street and West 14th Street), providing access to Fort Hamilton Hospital and downtown attractions.

Clarence III Field

Built in 1999, Clarence III Field is the home of the AA-affiliate of the Nancyville Nancies baseball team, the Hamilton SeaHounds. The SeaHounds name is a homage to Hamilton's rich maritime past, as well as its' location on Lake Arruhu. Clarence III Field also hosts special events, such as some outdoor concerts.

Volkswagen Arena

Volkswagen Arena, completed in 2002, was built directly across East 6th Street from Clarence III Field as part of Hamilton's Sports & Entertainment District project. The arena was originally named Arruhu County Memorial Arena, but Volkswagen bought the naming rights to the arena in 2007 for an undisclosed price. Among the many events that play at VW Arena are concerts, monster truck shows, and WWE.

Hamilton City Hall, and Old City Hall

Hamilton City Hall (610 York Street) was built in 1969. Old City Hall, located directly behind New City Hall at West 7th and Queen Streets, was built in 1906 and is on the Iorio Register of Historic Places. After completion of Hamilton's new City Hall, Old City Hall fell into disrepair and sat vacant for many years. Finally, in 1994, the City of Hamilton completely renovated the building and today Old City Hall serves as an annex, housing some city offices.

Hamilton News-Herald Buildiing

Located at 601 Arruhu Street, the Art-Deco style Hamilton News-Herald Building is an icon of downtown Hamilton's skyline. The building, completed in 1924, serves as the publishing headquarters for the region's daily newspaper, the News-Herald and Sunday News-Herald. The building was partially damaged by fire in 1940 during the Hamilton Newsies Strike, and narrowly avoided major damage in 1981 during a major storm, which dumped nearly 12 inches of rain and flooded downtown Hamilton.

Clarence III Bank Building, Emigrant Building, Bank of Iorio Building

The 19-story, 275-foot Clarence III Bank Building, located at 400 Arruhu Street, is home of the Iorio headquarters of Nancyville-based Clarence III Bank. The building was completed in 1909 and was Hamilton's first high-rise office tower. Right next door, at 406-410 Arruhu, is the Emigrant Building, and across 5th Street is the Bank of Iorio Building.

I'm not sure what my next update will consist of yet, as my style of city-building (and CJing) is "fly by the seat of my pants". Any comments, questions, or suggestions are MUCH appreciated. Thank you for visiting Historic Hamilton, Iorio!

About Hamilton

The Backstory

While taking a break from working on my other CJ, I stumbled upon a region I started a long time ago, and never finished. That city is Hamilton, a port city that I modeled after my hometown of Erie, Pennsylvania, as well as other nearby Lake Erie port cities such as Ashtabula and Lorain, both in Ohio.

The City

Hamilton is located in the fictional state of Iorio, on the state's north shore of Lake Arruhu. Hamilton's economy is based upon heavy industry. In addition to being an industrial power player, Hamilton also has a prominent tourism sector, with a waterfront promenade located along the city's lakefront.

Volkswagen Manufacturing Plant, located on Hamilton's southwest side.

Volkswagen Hamilton Manufacturing is Hamilton's largest industrial employer. The carmaker has a large plant on Hamilton's west side, near West 23rd Street and Interstate 70.

Hamilton's Waterfront Promenade, Hoisington Landing

Located on Hoisington Landing, Hamilton's Waterfront Promenade is a major attraction to visitors to the city, as well as a major economic boost to the region, via the jobs it has created for the city.

Port of Hamilton

And of course, you can't forget about the Port of Hamilton. PH is Iorio's largest shipping and receiving port, and is Lake Arruhu's third-largest port.

Future updates will dig deeper into Hamilton's history, culture, economy, neighborhoods, and other regional tidbits. For now, I hope you enjoy the introduction...WELCOME TO HAMILTON, Proud of Our Past, Prepared For Our Future!
