Zautstrand

Zautstrand is the capital of Zautland, a "Land" between the Dutch Speaking Part, Today we see the Old Town built in a more Dutch style, Next time We will see King Anööldsen's District a Neo-Classical District, the city is marked by it's 2 strong influences

Bydgrakkt

Anyone visiting Zautstrand will be suprised by their Dialect, called "Zou'ch" This language combines Dutch and Danish influences with germanic roots

As Bydgrakt demonstrates it has the suffixe "Grakkt" which is Gracht in Dutch. "Zaut" in itself is unique, it is derived from Zout in Dutch

Byd, has the danish root of "By" meaning city/village/town

ODoFTsg.jpg

G3tSIqU.jpg

Bydkirkk

As you would guess, the "Bydkirkk" is the cathedral! Kirkk having the germanic root of Kirch

Igsz72R.jpg

Bydpläät & Ostbyd

The Pläät is the central place, it's origin is "Plaats" from Dutch, and Ostbyd is the "Eastern City", mainly the eastern part of the oldtown

Grakktårm

We finish with the Grakktårm; the Tower (tårn) on the Grakkt! it is Zautstrand's highest tower, and one of the cities most contreversial towers, some people appreciate it's unique style, some say it destroys the city's style; they call it a "dårn" actually it's littl cute name is Grakktdårm, the Gakkt's Eyesore, of course people in Zautstrand are friendly, but not so much to this building, Do you like it ?

Wc2YQdM.jpg

EQS4N8q.jpg

And to finish, I leave you with a mosaic that looks at all we've seen today! EXTRA +1 to the ones who comment in Zou'ch! this lovely language!

Some Geography

On our last update we were in Solvhavn, now we are down south, in Laanstad! You can see!

ZX0MwOi.jpg

JOKMQF1.jpg

The Hovedakse is a conurbation in Sjoland. It consists of the four largest Sjolandic cities (hogesnelheidslijn, Zautstrand, Dagstat and Hoek Van Broederland), and the surrounding areas. With a population of 8,300,000 it is one of the largest conurbations in Europe.

Along the Hovedakse run the HLL (Højhastighedslinje/Hogesnelheidslijn)The Sjolandic High speed rail, going from Hoek Van Broederland to Sølvhavn, it is currently being extended to Nördsby. The motorway M1 runs along it.

About

Last year Sjoland was near sweden, it changed a bit shall we see..

:ooh:

The geography of the European part of the Netherlands is unusual in that some of its land has been reclaimed from the sea and is below sea level like the Netherlands protected by dikes. Another factor that has influenced its physical appearance is that the country is highly densely populated. It is ranked 19th overall on that scale, but is behind only three countries having a population over 10 million. Consequently, Sjoland is highly urbanised, especially along the Major axis.

Sjoland is situated in the zone between three European climatic zones (Borea influence in the north, Atlantic influence the west and Continental influence in the east); the climate throughout Sjoland is a mixture of these influences. Generally the western parts of the country has atlantic climate and the eastern parts a more continental influenced climate.

Sølvhavn Waterfront, Knappenål

Today I have 2 mosaics from the waterfront area of the city, it features "knappenål" meaning "Pin" in english, it's a business district built on the old knappenålhavn, an old industrial harbour! (like in London and Hamburg  ) a lot of work had to be done on the soil, and basins have been conserved, there is a promenade on the area, knappenål houses an urban experience of Environmental housing along the water, with houses that you can visit, shops, and houses to live in, the Tram line 3 ends here near the "Expo årtusinde" a large expo complex made of 3 buildings.

On the left you'll see the old waterfront city, but that's for next time!

Jårvelinna

welcometoeldursjoland.jpg

Somewhere up far north....

jokullopgur.jpg

...let's go back to civilization..

Jårvelinna is a city and municipality of 41,742 inhabitants (31 January 2011) in the region of Northern Sjnömark in Sjoland. It is the most populous city in Northern Sjolands and the twenty-fifth most populous city in the country.

518px-Oulu.vaakuna.svg.png

Jårvelinna was founded on April 8, 1605, by King Charles IX of Sweden opposite to the fort built on the island of Ritisjala. This took place after favourable peace settlements with the Russians, which removed the threat of attack via the main east-west waterway, the river Jarva. The surrounding areas were populated much earlier. Jårvelinna is situated by the Gulf of Bothnia, at the mouth of river Sjnöjoki, which is an ancient trading site.

Bietsthaler Münster

After 2 rural updates we go back into town !

79722910.jpg

The Bietsthaler Münster is one of the main landmarks and tourist attractions of the Swiss city of Bietsthal. It adds definition to the cityscape with its brown sandstone architecture and coloured roof tiles, its two slim towers and the cross-shaped intersection of the main roof. The Münster is listed as a heritage site of national significance.

71245624.jpg

42776800.jpg

Originally a Catholic cathedral and today a reformed Protestant church, it was built between 1019 and 1500 in Romanesque and Gothic styles. The late Romanesque building was destroyed by the 1356 Bietsthal earthquake and rebuilt by Johannes Gmünd, who was at the same time employed for building the Freiburg Münster. This building was extended from 1421 by Ulrich von Ensingen, architect of the cathedral towers at Ulm and Strasbourg. The southern tower was completed in 1500 by Hans von Nußdorf.

Grüezi, and Welcome to Bietsthal. This was a region of Switzerland for a long time of its history

1848 Federal State New Federal Constitution combining elements of the U.S. constitution (Federal State with central and cantonal [state] governments and parliaments) and of French revolutionary tradition. The Principles of this constitution are still valid today.

1800 - 1900 Industrialisation Switzerland is one of the first industrialized countries in Europe.

1914 - 1918 World War I. Armed neutrality works when surrounded by warfaring nations.

1918 - 1933 Economic Crisis Twenties are not so "roaring" in Europe. Inner conflicts, general strike in 1918, 1929 world economic crisis hit this industrialized country severely.

1933 - 1936 Spiritual Defense Hitler in Germany is soon seen as a danger to Switzerland's independence. Thousands of German refugees (jews, intellectuals) accepted. Socialists and trade unions seek cooperation with liberal employers against fascist threat.

1936 : The General Peter Von Stöppenhaus wins the Cantonese election of Bietsthal, he is of facist ideology, and quickly decides to quit Switzerland and join Germany's III Reich, Opposition is killed, the democrate Paul Götterd is assassinated on "the night of the black Cats"

The main hotel "The 3 Kings" becomes the Reichsführer's Hotel

73591873.jpg

Many parts of the city are reformed into Jewish Ghetto's.

Here is the "Little Basel Ghetto"

rkpl.jpg

Racism and Antisemitism grows higher and higher, the exposition " Der Ewige Jude" and " Jude sind nur Tieren", were jews were in a Zoo, marks it's highest point....

17-Totalitarian-Anti-Semitic-3-Der-Ewige-Jude-1937.jpg

Hitler likes Bietsthal by the force of arms the people are galvanized and love the Fuhrer... his visit at the Bietsthal Reichkonsul was a success. the Konsul was designed by Hitler's own architect Albert Speer

rkpe.jpg

When WW2 started Bietsthalers were sent onto the Soviet front, and were slaughtered by what they called "Der Rote Maschine", in 1945 when the war stopped, General Peter Von Stöppenhaus was sent to Nuremberg, and it was decided we would be executed at the Messeplatz in Bietsthal.

deadjr.jpg

In 1946 It gained independance, but it's relation with Switzerland was strong.

Nowadays it is prosper and democratic after the Violence of 1936-1945
