Mattesburgh: Goodbye

Replies:

Reikhardt: Thanks!

MCjohnstown: Those are included with the game, they're at the plazas section. To make them as in the park, just put a road where you want to place the walkways, fill the spaces in with trees, remove the roads and put the plaza textures in the gaps.

Take a last look at Mattesburgh...

There have been lots of obstacles along the way, many good moments and bad ones. I have learnt to know my cities better. I have learnt a lot, not only from myself... But also from you guys.

4,557 views in the new CJ section, 2,099 in the old one. I would never have gotten this far with all your comments. It's incredible how 61 replies can help a CJ get here. I've won a Trixie, I've joined an alliance... But it's gotten too much for me, too boring. I made lots of mistakes which drove this city journal the wrong way.

I've been discovering a lot on something else. Maybe too much. I've discovered new things. Better things...  In shorter words, it's time to end the CJ. Time to move on to something else... Time to move on to the City of Kell.

Thank you all,

HC

Fresh air, the sound of ships moving, sails everywhere, the smell of fresh fish... It's the Port of Dupont.

The rail station that connects the port with the industrial area.

cxlscreenshotdupont63.jpg

The warehouses in Dupont make an excellent view of the surrounding mountains.

cxlscreenshotdupont48.jpg

The parking spots in the Port are often empty. The City Hall has been handling demolition requests.

cxlscreenshotdupont61.jpg

The rail tracks begin next to the port and go between the mountains and stop in a small village called Clawst.

Dupont freightyard seen from the roof of the warehouse. Built in 1833, the freightyard is pretty small.

cxlscreenshotdupont70.jpg

The rolling mountains in Dupont are best sighted from the docks.

cxlscreenshotdupont54.jpg

Sailboats dock in the Port and wait until they are used again.

cxlscreenshotdupont58.jpg

The warehouses store various goods such as food, cans and metals.

Well, see you in the next update. But I was really most surprised when I saw this:

Thank you to everyone who read this journal, who commented, and who nominated me. And remember, each comment is a support to continue with this CJ.

Thank you and Merry Christmas!

I'm back! Back, I say! A new neighbourhood has been built in Dupont. Welcome to Briand!

babagamooshe: Imagine... Tropical paradise... Beach... Isolated... The rich are always attracted to that! But there are some apartments if your budged is too low to afford the other homes.

I bet some of you thought this one was dead, didn't ya? 2.gif Well no, it isn't! I'm back and so is Mattesburgh! Want to know some info about its country? Visit the Cities XL Union Wiki! There you find an article about Layreth and its cities. There are two other major towns there, Port Hawson and Dupont! I am currently building Dupont and, who knows? A new CJ will sprout from it!

But enough blabber about Layreth. Some time ago, as you may know, I mentioned a new neighborhood in Mattesburgh named Spain Town, which, as the name points out, is a small neighbourhood near downtown full of Spanish-styled villas for the rich. Some pics:

cxlscreenshotmattesburgb.jpg

An overview of the neighborhood.

cxlscreenshotmattesburgw.jpg

The whole city, Spain Town on the lower left corner.

cxlscreenshotmattesburgm.jpg

The neighborhood itself is very old. There are a lot of charming quaint villas, and also some bigger buildings, like this one.

cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

The roof of the High School has some nice views!

cxlscreenshotmattesburgt.jpg

Lazy and rich Elites spend their evenings blabbering at the pool.

cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

Park Road crossing with Marinora Street. (Yup, ludmamm - I do have a street with the name of your CJ2.gif) It offers very nice skyline views!

cxlscreenshotmattesburga.jpg

Sometimes, if you search enough, you can find some modern housing here.

cxlscreenshotmattesburgr.jpg

Mattesburgh is not entirely urban. There are many places to sit and enjoy nature, such as the joint of the Waven and Gewyl rivers.

cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

The excellent view from the roof of a home.

Well, that was it, hope you enjoyed. Now I have to wait 'till my broken clavicle gets right. See you!

Hi all! Sorry for the long delay, I've been really busy with real life. For today's update I'd like to take you somewhere outside Mattesburgh: Nahoon.

Nahoon is a city situated on one of the McHare Islands, which are within the European country where Mattesburgh is located (c'mon, keep commenting and I will give you some info about it ;) ).

To begin, here are some pics of the city and the two towns near, Princewell and Haroldstown!:

cxlscreenshotnehoon1.jpg

An overview of Nahoon.

cxlscreenshotnehoon3.jpg

Princewell, a small town close to Nahoon.

cxlscreenshotnehoon21.jpg

cxlscreenshotnehoon29.jpg

Nahoon's architecture varies from very modern housing...

cxlscreenshotnehoon30.jpg

...to quaint villas for the whealthiest.

cxlscreenshotnehoon31.jpg

The other island is uninhabited, but its beaches are popular among tourists.

cxlscreenshotnehoon34.jpg

The islands are also an excellent fishing spot!

Well, I hope you enjoyed the update, regular updates resume tomorrow, see you there!

Mattesburgh is the capital of an European country named Layreth situated between France and Belgium (more details about the country later). Because that there are some ethnical neighbourhoods of close countries in Mattesburgh. Two of them are close to downtown: Spanish Town and the French Quarter - this update will feature the latter.

Here are the latest pics of it:

cxlscreenshotmattesburgg.jpg

A nighttime view of the city with the French Quarter seen at the front. If you have some good eyes you can spot Spanish Town in the distance. ;)

cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

The French Quarter has fantastic skyline views! This one was taken from a rooftop.

This is Carper Blvd. at the French Quarter. Here it's an extra-wide avenue.

Guess what? I completely finished the Downtown area! I added some medium density aswell to make it blend with the smaller buildings. It reminds me of my hometown, Madrid!

Here are some pics:

Another of the lots of quiet streets in the area.

cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

This street is a nice area to rest, an excellent location for a bank and some offices.

cxlscreenshotmattesburgs.jpg

This pic really reminds me of a street of Madrid at night. Chatham Park is at the right side of the road.

cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

This is Carper Blvd. at one of its quieter ends. This night hour is perfect for crime, so watch out!

The whole downtown was taking too much time, so I decided to finally write an update while it's not completely finished. This one will showcase lower downtown, where the most highrises are located.

Some pics:

cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

The skyline from one of the nearby hills.

cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

This is one of the best views of downtown (if not the best).

cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

Carper Blvd. is much like Wall St. in popularity. The city's most important buildings are located here.

Update:

The park in the middle I showed in the previous update has been built. Its official name is Chatham Park. I tried to detail it as much as possible.

Hello, everyone! To begin, here's an aerial of what I've got so far (Click on the images for full size):

cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

Don't mind the Unskilled Workers lots. They're placeholders 'till I figure what to place there. You can also spot where a park will be.

cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

Traffic view... Not very interesting with 0 population...34.gif

image1ns.jpg

A little map over downtown Google Maps-style I made. Expect a few more maps like this (or better).

cxlscreenshotmattesburg.jpg

And (sorry, I couldn't resist) postcard view.

So, what do you think of the road layout? Good? Bad? Post your opinion here!
