Campaign of Conquest

08Banner.jpg

By the winter of 1812 the United States had gained a lot of ground. Virtually all of Virginia had been captured by American forces. In this south The Americans were making decent ground, but at a much slower pace. All in all, the United States looked to be well on their way to capturing the original colonies. An imperialistic United States was a new concept, but one the american people were enjoying.

The American Army, unlike during the US Revolutionary War, was able to just march on through their enemies. Either the Americans were mightier.. or The British simply weren't able to offer the fight that they once could. Either way, things for the fledging SimNation looked bleek.

One thing most Americans did not know was that the majority of british forces had yet to arrive. Most of the forces that The Americans have faced were local SimNation militia... British Military garrisons.. and advisors. The intense success that the american's saw made them believe they could get more than just the original 13 colonies. The Americans had made their way all the way into the New York colony and decided to turn their sights north. The British however were ready for this. Several ships had used the St Florence river in order to get fresh and much needed reinforcements down into the Montreal and Quebec areas. One such place to get more troops was Queenston Heights. Queenston Heights was geographically located in a perfect place for the Americans to try and make their way into Canada.

The American Army started their march not expected to see much resistance until actually reaching the town of Queenston Heights. Under command of Major-General Sir Isaac Brock, British forces marched out to meet the Americans in the woods and fields outside of the city.

Despite not being ready for the British, the Americans were trained enough and experienced enough not to be caught off guard and quickly setup their battle lines.

Under command of Sir Isaac Brock, however, and fighting against fresh troops, The Americans stood little chance. The British advanced on the Americans much like the Americans used to advance on the British.

GT08_1.jpg

By the time the battle was over, Sir Isaac Brock was a hero. He saved Queenston Heights from the imperialistic Americans, and it looked like the tide of war might change. Sadly, Major-General Sir Isaac Brock had fallen in battle.

Back home at the the colony of Vantieg, The local Vantieg colonial government had sent message to the British and SimNation governments that the colony, while apart of the United States, had no part in their imperialistic ventures and wished to remain neutral in the conflict. Such a letter was definately going to put the colony on unfavorable terms with the rest of America and the American Government. Perhaps life in Vantieg wont be as wonderful as it once was?

WAR

07Banner.jpg

Not but a full year after negotiations started with Britain over control of the original 13 American Colonies did the US grow impatient regarding President Galveso's diplomatic policy. Without the publics vote, the US congress voted 23 to 4 to impeach President Galveso and the much more aggressive Vice President took charge. Under the new president, and without declaring war, US Forces quickly marched onto British controlled SimNation. SimNation and the British Empire as a whole was taken completely off guard. This was not the same Americans they fought during the US Revolution from 1775 to 1778. This was indeed a new generation of Americans that saw themselves as more powerful than The British Empire and had imperial aspirations of their own!

The British and SimNation garrisons in the Virgina's, the first area hit by the Americans, were slow to react. The once quiet and green forests in Virginia's mountains quickly became loud with the thunder cracks of musket and cannon. Many Americans were hurt at the first onset of the first attack. Below is an artists take on the battle line.

battle_of_shiloh_thulstrup.jpg

The British Empire was not going to take this attack lightly. As soon as word reached London of the attacks, The War of 1812 was in British papers.

Newspaper.jpg

London wanted this war to be over as fast as it had begun. But The British generals knew this was going to be as long fought as America's war for Independence. In order to comply with their orders however, the British response to the invasion of SimNation was as swift as it was powerful. With the burning of New Orleans as a start.

Starting around Feb of 1810 the young American government entered into negotiations with england for the East Coast of North America... what was once the original 13 colonies. After the US Revolutionary war the original 13 colonies went back to The British Empire while most of the rest of Mid West went to the newly formed United States. With the Gulf Coast America's only access to the Atlantic... and the only major body of water on their border. This has been a major point of contention since 1778. Thirty years is a long time to hold a grudge.

Now, in 1811, The US Government is beginning to get frustrated at the lacking progress in annex negotiations. The original 13 colonies has become a major cash cow for The British Empire and they are haven't budged on the issue. Privately the US Congress began discussing the possibility of military action to take the east coast. President Charles Sebastian Galveso was adamantly against military action and promoted diplomacy as much as possible. This attitude earned President Galveso an unfair image of being spineless, as evident by the many political cartoons circulating the american cities. President Galveso was never spineless, he would just prefer not to be the aggressor in a situation like this. To Galveso.. it was simply being evil.

Despite the President's demands to keep the situation diplomatic, The General of the American Army convinced The President as well as congress that the British may attack first and heavy recruitment was needed.. just in case. In all reality the generals true motivation was to prepare an invasion force for the British American colonies

Vantieg

05Banner.jpg

A lot has been happening in the American colony of Vantieg. Too much to really cover without a broad sweeping "update" style post. Despite how much I really don't like them.

In the years since we last saw Roberton, the town had actually started to seriously grow. With the colony of Vantieg not being considered a territory or a state of the union, the laws in Vantieg were a lot looser... and very much up to the Vantieg Colonial government. Those that decided not to rough it out in a smaller town or help found a new township, ended up moving to Roberton or RionVille. Roberton was still the largest town in Vantieg and was working to establish itself as the colonial capitol.

RobertonReview.jpg

In the older part of Roberton land was becoming an issue. So Roberton was growing outward, downsizing the garrison for more development, and following RionVille's lead with such upgrades as cobblestone streets.

Roberton1.jpg

Roberton2.jpg

In RionVille the situation was much the same as Roberton. Having experienced a population explosion, land in the older part of town was quickly going to become a problem. The town was beginning to grow out into the forest. Caleb Johnson also found that he was being tasked with making plans for the town that reached well beyond his lifetime.

RionVilleReview.jpg

Rionville.jpg

Shortly after ships set sail to start the township that became Rionville, several more ships set sail as well. Apparently leaving the shores of the US for a colony had some appeal to american citizens. In the years since Roberton and RionVille were founded, several small townships had been founded as well. So far none of which have established names for themselves.

Road Works

Banner.jpg

Mr Caleb Johnson, also known as CJ for short, was quick to propose the first ever road plan for the young Vantieg colony. CJ was also quick to yet another first for the new world. Contractors. CJ manage to hire a man that is as ambitious as himself, a man known as Wesley Starr. Starr, also sometimes referred to as The Greck..nobody knows why, grew up in Kansas City and quickly made a name for himself as a ruthless business man. It was Mr. Starr's business talents that CJ was so interested in. CJ knew Starr would be able to hire any crew and get any job done, regardless of the conditions.

Starr quickly managed to get a crew working and cleared the land where the road was going to be built. It took a good three months to simply clear the land, but Starr knew that with a main street a lot of new buildings would be going up along the road. New construction meant the land would need to be cleared anyways. Far easier to clear it now while they were there. The extra work might also bring in extra contracts for Starr to build another company from.

work1.jpg

Knowing the project Starr was working on, a large order of cobble stone was ordered from America and had reached Rionville a few days after the work area was completed cleared. Starr's men immediately set about laying down the stone work that would make up the first cobble stone road in Vantieg. Something else new to Vantieg, and indeed the western word, Concrete side walks. Starr was not just a great business man but a forward thinking man. Starr saw many building owners making wooden and stone pathways and porches in front of their buildings to avoid patrons from dragging in the dirt and grime from the street. Starr felt that it would be far wiser to make a "sidewalk" a standard in Rionville. Concrete was a rather recent invention, or rediscovery as the ancient romans had a form of concrete, and being such a young technology made it rather rare. The concept of a "sidewalk" being made with a new technology was a sure fire way to forever put Rionville on the map.

work2.jpg

After a good two years of bare knuckled labor, hand mixing the concrete, and putting up the oil lamps... a major section of Main Street had been completed.

Review.jpg

Shortly after Roberton was founded in 1800, the US Congress decided that Vanteig needed to be colonized very quickly to exercise their claim on the land. As the warships were sent to Roberton to build fortifications early in 1801, another settlement ship was sent to Vantieg to colonize a piece of land at the mouth of the bay. By 1806 Rionville (Name for General Sanderson Rion that fought in the US Revolution) had a population very similar to Roberton and was on pace to outgrow the original city.

In 1808 both Roberton and Rionville were experiences population explosion that put them well over 150 settlers each. While Roberton simply experienced the explosion and didn't do any city planning or oversight, Rionville was looking to start making long term plans to ensure the success of their growing town. As a result the city council hired a world renown city planner from Kansas to help with their ambitious plans. Caleb Johnson immediately went to work making plans for his new home. His first proposal, a main street road built of cobblestone instead of dirt running down the middle of what will eventually be down town.

Colonization

BannerPeices.jpg

RegionReview.jpgReviewCloser.jpg

In the year 1798, the United States wanted to try and spread their influence. Being directly cut off to the Atlantic by the developing Sim Nation and already taking too much heat from the international community to even think about a hostile take over, A ship was commissioned in Texas, the USS Houston, to explore and colonize the land mass north of Sim Nation. With the USS Houston having to travel from the Gulf Coast and around Sim Nation it took the crew a good two years to finally reach their destination. In 1800 the seamen caught sight of small islands to the south of their destination. The crew was eager to finally make landfall, but the captain ordered the ship around the islands and into a large bay area on the mainland.

1.jpg

Inside the gulf the watchman spotted a suitable peninsula where the captain decided to make landfall.

2.jpg

Of course.. with landfall comes work. First thing to do... build a temporary pier that the ship could be moored to and to allow easier offloading of goods. Some men go their axes and went into the forest to start chopping at the trees. The USS Houston only carried a crew compliment of 400 so all the manual work at this new colony would take some time. The pier was managed in two weeks.

3.jpg

With the pier built there needed to be a means of storing food and other vital supplies. A rather sizable building was to be erected by the pier for this very purpose. During this time the USS Houston served as housing for everybody. Of course, unlike the pier, a lot more work was required and the building took three months to build.

4.jpg

5.jpg

The crew of the USS Houston had a place to sleep, place to store supplies, they were set and happy. The United States however had developed many enemies since their revolution in 1778 (roughly the year the war ended). In order to protect their most recently acquired asset, the war ships USS Constitution, USS Texas, and the USS Enterprise (a ship capture during the revolutionary war) set sail behind the USS Houston by about 6 months. Their mission? To build fortifications and garrison the colony. Due to their sleeker construction (The USS Houston is just a supply ship after-all.. not a war frigate) the managed to arrive at the colony only four months behind the initial ship. Most of the Crew of the USS Houston were exploring the forests beyond their initial settlement.

With the US Marines and US Core of carpenters set to work on building bunk houses for the garrisoning marines and fortifications to protect from a sea attack.

6.jpg

With the colony garrisoned and being actively built by the former crew of the USS Houston (now decommissioned), Regular civilian ships have been coming to the new colony. The town has managed to grow some. By 1806 the population had jumped to 61 civilians (roughly 200 military personnel) and the town had about four farms. If it was possible for people to fly I'm sure it would have been an impressive sight from the air.

7.jpg

Many of the colonists had been calling the town Roberton, after President Robert Shika. Former Captain Bruce of the decommissioned USS Houston had been serving as the town leader decided to make the towns official name Roberton. The town Roberton in the colony of Vantieg.

Intro

BannerPeices.jpg

I know from talking with some of you that this has been an anticipated CJ. With the wife gone and no kids to look after.. well Gotta fill the void with something right? So Vantieg may very likely be updated more often than my last CJ.

With Vantieg I created a rather sizable, 64km x 64km region. According to Region Census there is roughly 1000 city tiles to play with. I'll likely be running this CJ for the next 20 years ;D With such a large region.. and with everybody's CJs going into future timelines.. I decided to pull this CJ back and do something different... 1800s. Its already proving to be a challenge. But I fully intend to try and make this technologically accurate for the time period.

As with my last CJ, this CJ will also be a Natural Growth inspired I'm going to post a CC list a little later... Not in the mood right this second to do that but here a region shot to wet your pallet (obviously unfinished)
