Tutorial on How to Make a Seaport using Canal and Seawall Pieces

You need:

- Digging lots

- Seawall or embankment pieces

- Canal or water texture

- Water props

- NAM, RAM or whatever you wish

- Patience

- More Patience

Basic Use

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us
Use the digging lots to make your hole.

Digging lots are for precision. You can't use terraforming tools, it messes things too much.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Yep. I hope you know how to use this.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Level your property. Put one-tiled streets on top to anchor it.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Plop the walls facing the road. Notice the graphic glitch. We'll fix that later.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

You keep doing that ok?

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

You see that square? Select street and hover the icon over the graphic glitch like so.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

It can also look like this.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Then PLOP! your streets. The square will look like that and your visual glitch disappeared.

You may delete it afterwards.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

You are done! But you know, there is another way to do it.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

This time, plop streets above and below the slope to anchor both sides.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Plop your seawalls on the slop itself. Arrows facing the uphill roads.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

That looks good.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Fill it with water! Or simwater. Whatever.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Yay! It is done! This is not very realistic though.

Bridge on Water

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

You have to use end-pieces. You can't use offset or overhanging or it looks bad.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Anchor it also.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Use road puzzle pieces. Works with rail and avenues too.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Use this option so it will look better.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Looks good?

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Use offset or overhanging lots to cover the ugly bottom.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Ahhh. Looks good yet?

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Alternatively, you may want to use Land Bridges instead of this in order to prevent it from being too low.

Land bridges are not covered here.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

TA DA!

Outer Corners

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

So layout the land.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

UGLY! That will not work.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Do a bit of landscaping. Extend the upper area as such.

This will enable the corner pieces to face a road.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

So make sure the corner pieces are facing a road.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

And TA DA!

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Ah the glitch! You know how to solve this!

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Take out that bad boy glitch with a street!

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

YEAH! What are ya gonna do now glitch?

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Finish it off.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Fill it up.

YAY

Does it look good?

By the way, you can use some other wall piece. The same mechanics work with most other sets.

You WILL need some experimentation to figure out how to use other sets.

Some cannot be used. Actually, I have encountered one set that is impossible to use in this manner.

See my CJ to see what can be used (because I already used them) and experiment on your own.

Have fun!

The port of the Oil Complex is very busy. I am quite the fan of SOMY's materials.

This is where ships are made.

The Choeson company Hyundai owns and manages half of the shipbuilding docks here.

Coal.

Why put all that coal in big tanks when you can dump it?

You can also see the coal being processed and loaded into the coal boats.

Good Night!

Il Urbium di Knome

For the past journals, I have shown The Port of Knome, the Canals of Knome,

Now I am proud to present to you the Urbs di Knome, or City of Knome.

45568824.png

The Heliport.

It's the only way in or out of Knome via air.

There is virtually no space for an airport.

39579061.png 87843074.png

I use Gizmo's Darker Night mod in these pictures.

The buildings look well in darker nights.

I plan to switch to trunite sooner or later.

24627170.png

You can see Ikea here but not too well.I should go back and get a better shot of this.

I haven't seen Knome in the flesh (so to speak) in over a year. Problem is, I am afraid to enter SC4 due to it's loading time.

h14.png h16.png h17.png h18.png

The night is colorful for my residents.

29501410.png

Working late at night. This is the Coal- Misc. Industry district.

h12s.png

Marinas never sleep.

53850682.png h15.png

This is the Granary. Agricultural products are delivered and stored here.

Here, they get packed to be delivered by ship.

Trains come and go here in order to deposit freight.

11872013.png 19322103.png

This is the not as pretty side of town. With that said, this part of town is not necessarily poor, just not as pretty.

h13.png 22359906.png

More shots. In the first picture, you can see the heliport.

In the second picture you can see the part of town bordering with the military base.

h10.png h11.png

This part of town is classy and pretty. I like those lots.

*EDIT*

I now made a new language for the people in my region called Laetin purely for naming objects so that I won't follow Latin rules.

Ex:

- Republic of the City-State Knome

The Statue of Fortitude.

An enduring symbol of naval and economic power of the City-State known as Knome. Modeled after the God Agornath.

Aside from being a monument for tourism, the peninsula in which it stands on naturally separates the military dock from the south port.

More pictures of the Statue of Fortitude. Instead of Lady Liberty, we have Mr Fort Fortitude.

98525916.png

Those small yachts are Maxis models used as props, so they can't move.

They still provide life at the canals though.

86710948.png

I just realized, this watergate is the only way up and down! I always planned to make a second one but I never did.

Under and over the canals snake the roads of Knome:

I used more than one seaport here. They work well in tandem.

Here is a shot of the smaller marina.

e14.png

This is the only waterside hotel here. All the other hotels are on the second level.

The Marina-Resort place. The other hotels are here.

The bad thing about using canal and pier pieces is that you can't have beach pieces that merge homogenously to the water/canal/pond pieces. If only we could...

Some bridges:

33031878.png

d10j.png

Using the overhanging boat lots really gives this sense of realism.

How can I improve it? Any suggestions?

A bit of the Military Base. Battleship-class Agornath at drydock for repairs. Missile cruisers briefly seen here. Being a large refinery and logistics city-state requires a large military for safety.

Better view of the 2nd level oil complex. It extends all the way to the military zone. Notice the efficient 'simply dump' waste complex! SimPeg is contracted indefinitely for the task of waste management.

More of Port Knome

More pictures port Knome.

I think this is my first step in the SimCity Community even if I've been here for quite a while.

Anyway, enjoy!

The Hyundai shipyard from another angle. (I tell you, It took me forever to find and get these pieces)

33754424.png

You can see a bit of the shipyard complex on the seaport level and the industries and the Can-AM complex on the city level. You can also see part of the freight complex here distributed by heavy rail and Can-AM.

15691743.png

You can see the cruise ship office and complex here. The building was funded by BLaM and was used as their headquarters.

49687338.png

Ships out at night. A cruise ship is docked here! Always a pleasure at the recreational complex!

75539126.png

A bit of the Can-AM complex. I love overpasses.

20773262.png

You can see Can-AM ferries and canal freight here. Heavy Rail runs parallel in this photograph.

Those other maxis boats are stationary, like the boats in the seaport (but you can't possibly notice that from a still picture!)

69379424.png

A whole map view. This is a bit outdated. The skyscraper zone is incomplete here. Unfortunately, this is the only picture I got. SC4 will crash if I attempt this again!

82662542.png

I like the nightlighting of this set!

This is most obviously unrelated to SimCity but I wanted to show you a bit of my other internet life.

Welcome to Knome

Il Pubicum di Il Civitas-Urbium di Knome

The Republic of the City-state of Knome
knome.jpg

Knome started a year ago! It is an experimental seaport. This experiment was started due to my failure to build a seaport properly on real simwater. So I decided: if I can't make a seaport on water, I'll make it on fake water!. Well, faker water, but simwater nonetheless.

Most seaports here are functional but no watercraft moves at all. This can be easily solved using Can-AM's canal automata.

Welcome to Knome! The first city I believe I can show to the world and brag about it! I made this out of an experiment whether I can make a seaport out entirely out of puzzle pieces with virtually no water.

Here are a few pictures!
