The city is located about 18 miles southeast of Lawson and 20 miles southwest of Weldman, the largest city in Beecher Valley and the county seat of northern county, Northwood County. From Chaneville, the county seat, is it approximately 100 miles to get to Surprise Valley, which is located in the Chase Valley. From Chaneville to Mayer, an isolated town to the south, it is a long 60 miles drive around the mountain range to get to the town. The county is very broken up, and relies heavily on the Chase Pass Highway as the main lifeline for the county.
HISTORY: The city was established in 1855 and battled with Lawson for many years to become the county seat of Chane County. Early on, the Beecher Valley was used for farming, and Chaneville grew the goods for the region and county. Strong crops helped the town thrive, until many harsh winters took their toll on the farming business. Weldman surpassed Chaneville and became the principle city of the valley, but the county line split the two cities, and Chaneville was able to retain some of it's prominence, at least within it's own county.
ATTRACTIONS: Historic downtown and located along the river. Close to many attractions and Lawson, as well as the Chase Mountains.
