Chapter Three
Mr. Figueira’s farm is 100% ready, the sugar cane grew and its ready to be processed.

The slaves start the harvest, they bring the sugar cane to the “engenho”, where it will be processed into a liquid and sugar. Theres a machine that do that, it works using animal strenght.

6. A common brasilian sugar cane farm.
Mr. Figueira and a slave go to Rio every week on a boat with the products to sell in the big city, he goes personally because he don’t thrust in slaves to deal with the money. He stays there for a few days, sleeping in a hotel, while his slave sleeps in the backyard, with the horses.
He also met some of his old friends and told them about the virgin lands he has found, “well, they are not virgin anymore, i explored it and it gave me beautiful kids.. my beloved sugar cane. You guys should join me, taxes here are so high, while there, it is free”. The other farmers showed interest and they would think about it.
