Please help us for June & July   06/20/2017

This month we're hoping for a little bit of a boost this month or next, in addition to covering the regular bills, we could benefit from some hardware upgrades. STEX Collector's Set gifts can now be sent to you via digital download as well as regular mail if you wish! Every donation dollar goes toward keeping Simtropolis online and humming along. Your contribution counts! Hardware Upgrades As our website community software improves with more and more features, and as we bolt on additional features such as chat, the increased load to handle all these new toys is taking the server a bit to task. You may have noticed that we'd been forced to temporarily disable the chat as we worked out allocating resources for more optimal performance. Following this, we've applied a number of 'soft' changes such as caching options and experimented with server configurations (nginx as proxy, for example), so the hardware aspect is also an area we'd like to focus on. The last time we upgraded hardware was back in 2012, prior to the release of SC13. Your contribution means a lot! Your donation will go toward helping us to 1.) migrate to a newer server or 2.) at least get some ram/cpu/storage updates and any other infrastructure hardware or services. Donate and Get a Gift or Donate Any Amount Thanks so much! - Dirktator & The Admins

TerrainQuery Block

12 posts in this topic

I've been trying activating the "TerrainQuery" cheat, as it is supposed to show the cursor coordinate information. (I'm hoping it's not just a X and Y info.)

But no matter how I put on, [on], or any other variation I come out null.

Ok, you are doing Ctrl+X to get the pop up box right? Then type TerrainQuery and press enter. Then select the normal Query tool (the Question Mark) and hover over some terrain.  Note: The city must be established in Mayor Mode for this to work.

A lot of the "Extra Cheats" require a very specific syntax to work correctly. One way to avoid all that, when pressing CTRL+X, right click the box that appears to get a drop-down list, saving you having to type anything.

This is a great way to do it providing you have the Extra Cheats Plugin installed. In plain vanilla, the right-click in the box does absolutely nothing. *;)

Note: The TerrainQuery does work in plain vanilla.

@rsc204's suggestion is spot on.

Just did that. Great ! No 'ON/OFF' as SC4D suggest. Works very well and doesn't infringe in the normal query. Again, thanks.

To which I would answer... WHY wouldn't you have the Extra Cheats Plugin installed? :P

Yeah, there is no way to turn it off without exiting the city that I know of.

Actually, you can. When in Mayor's mode, I discovered that when you invoke the cheat TerrainQuery you don't have to write ON. just click on the query icon (the one with a ?), you are on. To turn it off, go to the cheats list, choose TerrainQuery , and add OFF, and you are back in business.

BTW, with the cheat on ON, you can use it in a normal way too, like checking on a LOT and so on.

However, modded nets like NWM won't all have their arrows turned off until after the sector is exited to region. This can yield odd pictures in the transit view of the region (some brightly colored roads), but another open & close cycle clears that up.

What's pertinent to this ? Actually, what do you mean by " all have their arrows turned off. " Aren't you complicating issues ? I do appreciate your comments but sometimes you seem to fly into a never land, and miss the point wholly. What does arrows have anything to do in this topic ?

I may have crossed the names of two different query cheats. Arrows show on roads when querying routes, and they don't all turn off by command. Sorry 'bout the confusion.

This one is DrawPaths.

DrawPaths will always disappear if you use HidePaths. If this isn't happening, trying zooming in/out to refresh the display. But I've never had the paths "stuck" myself.

      Hello Simtropolis Community!
I am looking to buy a new Windows laptop and I would appreciate your input.  Along with the usual Office functions, my goal will be gaming (SC4, possibly Civ 3 and eventually Cities Skylines) and graphics/dtp (Adobe).
These are the machines (all Dell) that I am considering. and I'm hoping to purchase a new machine this weekend, since there's a sale going on.

Headset jack  (I'm not planning on buying the Dell Adapter) I like aspects of each machine, bigger screen for one, SSD, cooling feature, (SC4 and flash games are dangerously hot on my present machine), and graphics card.  I just wish they all came on one machine.  I would consider upgrading my existing machine but the motherboard on my TOSH Satellite is pretty archaic by today's standards so much so that a previous Win 10 update knocked out the functionality of my native keyboard.  I got a new one and it has the same issue, so I'm using a wireless one after breaking a USB keyboard.
Thank you all for your help!

I'm curious to know Your opinion about the website Simtropolis. Today I started editing one site in my country. And I realized that this is far from the quality that I see on Simtropolis. How do You compare the quality of most of the other sites? Are there any sites built even more conveniently?  Are there any ideals in this world? Thank you.

Hello, I'm having a problem with eternal commuters. I leave them no opportunity to complete the commute but they prefer in the last tile of the city use the invisible connector to get back and don't go to the other city. instead, the go all the way back to complete the circle. what should I do? I already know that is not all the traffic, but it is a significantly part of it (28000 of 52000). How can I avoid it? What is going on?

I was building my city of Townsville in SC4. It went good so far, then as I was building my freeway and an avenue in my city, SC4 crashed to desktop. That doesn't make sense. I spent two years organizing my plugins folder and it still crashed as of 20 minutes ago. I hate when when this happens every time I start building my cities in SC4, it frustrates me a lot. I even made a report on the "Crash to Desktop? Look Here First" thread and hasn't been any response in the past few days since I posted. Here is the information:
I am using a digital copy of SC4 I bought on Steam.
Operating system: Windows 7 (64 bit)
      RAM: 8GB
      Processor: AMD FX(tm)-4300 Quad-Core Processor
      Crash Report:

I don't know why, but I need to know why this keeps happening every time I start building my cities in SC4.

By now I'm sure many of you are well aware of our newly-founded SimCity 3000 forum and STEX categories.
For those who haven't been keeping up with progress, there's been some really interesting discussions so far. Exploring areas of the game in more detail, including buildings,  conversions,  map generation,  terrain & water,  hex editing,  custom tree props,  and most recently property modding.
Thanks everyone for your contributions so far, whether you've made one or multiple posts.

And as a result, there's been some interesting trends in forum activity:

      Past 30 days

      Past 7 days
(All data current as of 9th June 2017, 18:00 EDT)

It just shows that with enough surrounding interest, there's still plenty of things to discover in a game released the previous century.
OK, one year before the millennium, but still...
