Aw, sweet! These are my jams, yo!

The SimCity 2000 music is especially nostalgic to me...you could say those are my 'jams'. I'm proud of how I managed to capture their original sound (mostly) into MP3 files.

This is great. I love the music from SimCity games, although I have only been able to hear the music of SC3k and SC4. SC2k and the original SC were before my time. I plan to play them one day, though.

Anywho, thanks for uploading these. The music of these games is a part of my life. :)

This is great. I love the music from SimCity games, although I have only been able to hear the music of SC3k and SC4. SC2k and the original SC were before my time. I plan to play them one day, though.

The first two SimCity games are practically abandonware; you shouldn't have any trouble finding them one way or another. It's worth it, too. Glad you like the collection!

I tried the DOS version of SC2K last summer. But my god! the music, while sounding like the SC2K music files in the first collection, was awful! Is there a way to have the "good" sound (like the Mac version) in the DOS version?

I don't believe so, not unless you mute the in-game music and use an external media player.

These songs bring back "memories" of cities I made when I first got the game. :lol: But, do you really need to upload them online—or the SC4 songs, at least—if we can just locate them in our program files folder? Or are you doing this just for convenience?

You are certainly welcome. I like the SimCity 3000 (and Unlimited) music too; it's some of my favorite in the series. 3000 as a whole is sort of underrated IMO.

On a related note, I used to mute every song but the classical jazz music back when I was playing 3000 (not Unlimited unfortunately) in my younger days because I didn't like any of the others. I eventually got sick of the jazz and muted that too. Pity my formerly narrow tastes.

I also once had a copy of SC3K Unlimited (my first) with no working music or sound effects. As you might expect, it detracted from the game significantly.

This is really nice! Is this Sim Mars soundtrack in there somewhere?

I'm afraid not.

Anyhoo, I think it's time for some download statistics! I uploaded the collection on the 20th of March, and it's the 31st as i'm writing this. Part 1-1 has had 22 downloads, while part 1-2 has had 17. Part 2's had 27 downloads, Part 3 had 17 downloads and Part 4 has had 29 downloads, the most of them all. That's 112 downloads in total!

I am glad you liked it. As of April the 7th (the date i am typing this) the section with the 2000 SE and SNES version music still has the most downloads...45 of them to be exact. Quite the number of downloads!

5 days later and Part 4 now has had 53 downloads. It's still the most popular part, beating out Part 2 (with the SC3KU music which is very good) which has only 44 downloads.

...together with my self-produced collection of Lemmings! and Oh No! More Lemmings! music (Acorn version, mp3'd)...

biff, where do I put the music for in-game use?

There are concise instructions in the Readme file in Part 4, which now has 60 downloads. They should get you moving on the right track.

I think I should tell you guys that I posted this collection on another forum at the same time as I did here. That explains the large number of downloads, at least.

Wait... this list isn't as comprehensive as you think. The SimCity 3000 music is missing! Biff has the music from SimCity 3000 Unlimited (the expansion) but not the original.

I have found the music. Sadly you have to download each one separately... there is no zip file containing them all of em. However, it is quite well worth the effort!

Despite the fact that it says SC3KU/World music, it actually contains all the music from SC3K (since Unlimited was a bit like SC4Deluxe in being a standalone game with both the original game and added content included)

Actually, Biff's download is more complete, since it includes "SIM Broadway", which for some reason was {removed from the SC3KU release}.

There were however some additional songs on the disk (that played when the autoplay window loaded) that aren't in any of the downloads. I lent my copy of Unlimited to someone, so I don't have access to them at the moment.

Also, I just would like to say "Thanks!" for converting the MIDI files from the older games. Now I can listen to them without the delay in loading MIDIs that seems to happen in newer version of Window! :party:

      Introducing Temere Locus Full, the 4th map in my could-be-a-real-place-but-isn't series.
      This is a SimCity 4 region I created using the Offline Planet Map Generator. (If you want the program, scroll down there and it's the first linky under the pictures. Get the one that includes the source code because that also has the color table files.) I used 942669825 seed number and magnification set to level to 1.0. To avoid having to adjust the gamma color level in GIMP I set the -i parameter to -0.051 for creating the grayscale image. (This adjusts the initial altitude for the sea level as seen by the Planet.Exe program.) Here's the complete command line I used:
      Planet.Exe -X -pq -s 0.942669825 -m 1.0 -C Greyscale.col -w 3073 -h 1536 -i -0.051 -o 942669825-08-(12x6Lg)-SC4Gray.bmp
      ^ If that line wraps it's not supposed to when you do that at the Dos command line.
      You might notice the height parameter is set to 1536 even tho we want 1537. This is because otherwise the program will create a single pixel white row across the top which turns into a wall when rendering in SC4. So, once the grayscale was generated I pulled it up in GIMP and scaled it to 3073 x 1537. (This is the size for 12 x 6 large city tiles (72 total). Then I added Gaussian Blur of 15.0 both horizontally and vertically to make the rendered map more slope mod friendly. And finally, I set the mode to true grayscale before saving it. Additionally, I modified the Columbus Terrain Mod 2 by setting MaxBeachWidth to 0x9 and MaxBeachAltitude to 9. I feel this defines the coast lines better.
      The pictures above are:
      Simulated SC4 height map as seen in game of the mini map with All Off and Zones data views. Same as # 1 with Contour Lines added. Mollweide projection as if this were a planet (cause it looks cool) Satellite view from Region Census Traffic view from Region Census To use: Put the three files in a folder called Temere Locus Full under your Region folder of SimCity 4 in your Documents.  Then simply render in game with Shift+Control+Alt+r from that region screen like any other grayscale import.

This carves out the middle section horizontally and does not require the vertical stretching that the zoom level 1 does. Also, to avoid having to adjust the gamma color level in GIMP I set the -i parameter to -0.051 for creating the grayscale image. (This adjusts the initial altitude for the sea level as seen by the Planet.Exe program.) Here's the complete command line I used:
      Planet.Exe -X -pq -s 0.14937910 -m 2.0 -C Greyscale.col -w 1025 -h 1024 -i -0.051 -o 14937910-SC4Gray.bmp
      ^ If that line wraps it's not supposed to when you do that at the Dos command line.
      You might notice the height parameter is set to 1024 even tho we want 1025. This is because otherwise the program will create a single pixel white row across the top which turns into a wall when rendering in SC4.       Lefebvre2 color scheme with contour lines Satellite view from Region Census Traffic view from Region Census My first second third fourth draft of creating my own color table for the program. It's supposed to be similar to the collage of the data view topographical maps I did for the other map, but without me having to do all that tedious copy and precision pasting. Note: It will show more fine detail  because this is before the rendering and does not take into account the merging/averaging that SC4 does when rendering.  The water will also show more detail for elevations. Those (tho averaged in rendering) are still there, but the color ramp for the mini map doesn't have enough divisions to show them. To use: Put the three files in a folder called Mons Lacus Jr under your Region folder of SimCity 4 in your Documents.  Then simply render in game with Shift+Control+Alt+r from that region screen like any other grayscale import.
