Please help us for July   06/30/2017

This month we're hoping for a little bit of a boost this month or next, in addition to covering the regular bills, we could benefit from some hardware upgrades. STEX Collector's Set gifts can now be sent to you via digital download as well as regular mail if you wish! Every donation dollar goes toward keeping Simtropolis online and humming along. Your contribution counts! Hardware Upgrades As our website community software improves with more and more features, and as we bolt on additional features such as chat, the increased load to handle all these new toys is taking the server a bit to task. You may have noticed that we'd been forced to temporarily disable the chat as we worked out allocating resources for more optimal performance. Following this, we've applied a number of 'soft' changes such as caching options and experimented with server configurations (nginx as proxy, for example), so the hardware aspect is also an area we'd like to focus on. The last time we upgraded hardware was back in 2012, prior to the release of SC13. Your contribution means a lot! Your donation will go toward helping us to 1.) migrate to a newer server or 2.) at least get some ram/cpu/storage updates and any other infrastructure hardware or services. Newsworthy, Or Not?

1 post in this topic

Hello, all.

We, the staff, have outlined a set of guidelines for posting to the Latest News section of the Home Page. We would like to limit this to newsworthy items related to Simtropolis. Here are the guidelines.

Items deemed newsworthy state, as applicable, What, Whom, When, Where, Why and How about events concerning SC4, CXL or Simtropolis as a site. They must regard an actual event, as opposed to requests, etc. If teams have a forum on ST, they may post news, as long as the news is in regards to an event such as the release of a significant new update, for example the NAM or SimMars.

Some examples of items that are not appropriately newsworthy according to the guideline would be:

  1. Items regarding events which are not about SC4, CXL, or ST, such as "Happy New Year", "Farewell, Michael Jackson", "Insert Name of City Added to Street View", "Random quote of the day"... etc.
  2. Items regarding individual members, such as "Come to My New Website/Thread/Contest", "My BAT is Updated!" etc.
  3. Requests, or possibilities, such as, "Insert Team Name Here Needs BATers", "Come and Join Insert CJ Union Name Here", "Team Name Will Be Releasing Such and Such Soon!", ... etc...
  4. Items only tangentially related to SC4, CXL, or ST, such as "Simcity 5 Petition" or items relating to events taking place in real cities around the world. Real world news items can be posted in the Current Events Forum.
  5. Items that are purely advertising SPAM, or offensive.

The Simtropolis staff are responsible for the moderation of all submitted news items, and reserve the right to make the final decision as to the suitability of any item. If an item is deleted, a PM will be sent to explain why. If there is a misunderstanding or dispute, then please bring the issue up politely with that staff member in private.

Thank you for your compliance with these guidelines, and enjoy the forums! This is a read-only topic.
