About This File

Charlotte, North Carolina

Charlotte is the largest city in the U.S. state of North Carolina and the second largest city in the southeastern United States.  It is currently the 17th largest city in the U.S. and was incorporated in 1768 as a town.  Named for Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, Charlotte is nicknamed the “Queen City” and is symbolized by a stylized crown.  Charlotte is located in and is the county seat of Mecklenburg County.

Facts:

Land Area: 297.7 sq. miles (771 km2)

Elevation: 751 ft (229 m)

Population (2014): 809,958 (17th)

Density: 2,720/ sq. miles (1,050.5/km2)

Urban Population: 1,249,442 (38th)

Metro: 2,380,314 (22nd)

Demonym: Charlottean

Time Zone: Eastern Standard Time (UTC-5) (Summer – DST: Eastern Daylight Time (UTC-4))

Major Highways Servicing Charlotte:

Interstate 77, Interstate 85, Interstate 277, Interstate 485

US Highway 21, US Highway 29, US Highway 74

NC Highway 16, NC Highway 24, NC Highway 27, NC Highway 49, NC Highway 51, NC Highway 160

Terrain of Charlotte:

Charlotte’s elevation is 751 feet above sea level and is describe as rolling foothills leading into the mountains from the coastal plan.  This area is known as the Piedmont and stretches from South West of Atlanta, GA to Northeast of Greensboro, NC following the Interstate 85 corridor.  Due to Charlotte location inland, Charlotte has four distinctive seasons, however, winters are known to be mild and summers are known to be hot and humid.

Information about the map:

The map was created using Terrain Party and the standard setting.  This map includes Interstate 85, Interstate 77, and Interstate 277, along with US 74 east of Charlotte.  The interchanges for all the major Interstates are hand drawn and as accurate as possible within the game.  This includes the I-77/I-85 interchange in which I-77 crosses itself and the northbound lanes are now on the left side and the southbound are on the right.  This design was used during the construction of the highway to save money and space.  If you have a chance check out Google Maps:  https://www.google.com/maps/dir/35.2729762,-80.8449356//@35.2723018,-80.8450858,16z?hl=en.  In addition the location of the Interstates is accurate as well using the terrain features to determine location.

Note:  US 74 (Independence Freeway) – Does not connect to the outside.  I was limited to four connections and choose to connect the I-85 and I-77 to the outside.  If anyone knows of a mod to allow more connections – please let me know.

Water Placement:

Due to the terrain and the proximate of water to the center city, I took liberties to ensure the map has proper water and access.  This was created due to Charlotte not being located on a major river or the river being close enough to be included in the map.

Feedback:

Please provide feedback and any suggestions so I can improve the map.  I am starting to use this map to build a city on and will be providing updates as I find issues.  Please let me know via commits if you have problems or concerns with the map or the road lay outs.

Region maps of the male and female gender symbols.
The symbol itself is the water, while the rest in flat land.
Perfect for city names named after males and females you may know, male or female game character city names, or any other masculine or feminine city names.

Because i'm zero when it comes to create bat's i've focused myself on creating maps.

My last map on wich i am playing is La Salle

      1. Problem: i don't know why the height difference between the water level and the shore is very big
      2. Is there a map of Crystal Cove from mystery inc.? I've searched the net to try and find one so i can recreate it in SC4 but no luck

Hey guys so I've been working on a new map for Cities: Skylines and I'm looking for some feedback and help!
First of all some basic info on the map. It's intended to be a sort of challenge map and I'm using ships instead of outside road connections. Later on I will reach the air routes and use those as well. Also I plan on using an 81 tile mod with all unlocked from start so I can reach the ports. So I started this map by using a youtube tutorial to make the basic terrain and then used some really basic Wilbur techniques to kinda clean it up. My mountains ended up really bumpy and jagged so I smoothed them out a bit in C:S and added some more small features like waterfalls, sand, resources, etc. and this is the mostly finished product and I'm using the Rhinestone Island Theme in these screenshots.
That being said I do have a few small issues with it that I could use some help with.

First and foremost would be to find some better trees for the forests, I used the vanilla tree's with leaves #2 and they don't quite fit in too terribly well, so if you guys know any custom asset trees you think would look nice let me know.

I used a custom palm tree asset for the beaches and I quite like it but I could use some tips on placement

Also some of my mountains look a bit just plopped down and bland. I've tested a few themes that add a bit nicer and more textured mountains, but I don't like the sand or something else from them, but I've only tested about 10 so any suggestions in that regard would be appreciated. And really I would rather just know how to make decent mountains than rely on a theme.

Really any and all feedback/criticism/tips are welcome. I'm new here and when I do finish the map I might try and make a city journal once I start on the actual city part of it. Here's a couple more shots of the map.
      Thanks so much in advance!

    • For my relots to work properly, you will need to download these dependencies if you haven't already. Most of us use these particular dependencies a lot. All you need to do is search for each in a Google Search and it should either be the first or second result. Please know that some of these downloads are from the LEX site, which will require you to make an account in order to download things from there.
    • Great work and great to see you batting again! I love MKE stuff and remember going to this bar fairly often when I lived there.
    • I want to have these on my game, but I'm really confused about how to do this download, do I have to have all those dependencies? If so, where do I find all of them? Do I just click the pink 'Download File' button, or do I have to find and download those dependencies from somewhere? I'm not good with computers, sorry. Any help on this from anyone will be appreciated.
    • Great. You stay closely on the IRM but add something new, no repetition. I'll use them for shure. We really should bring some of the newer props into the game, they deserve it.  For RRW (Real Rail Way) users I'd like to mention that eggman121 did the hard work of updating the NCD texture pack and some of the BSC textures to RRW versions. It is downloadable here: http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=3350 they are a replacement for Railyard and Spur Textures, Mega Pack but only an override for some of the BSC textures (= needed by the original IRM). So keep in mind the eggman121 textures must be loaded after the BSC Mega Textures.
    • @DavidDHetzel: Indeed. They've been sitting on my computer for a while now, but I think it's high time to take them for a spin again.
