About This File

There is a lot that happens around the world we cannot control. We cannot stop earthquakes, we cannot prevent droughts, and we cannot prevent all conflict, but when we know where the hungry, the homeless and the sick exist, then we can help.

-Jan Schakowsky

Homeless Tents

Was originally part of the debug tools, it was bring back into the game with added features as a park for the homeless to take shelter.

Tho, it may act as a park, it only attracts homeless people, aprrently, it still act as normal park.

Users may use them for a campsite.

Great to see mods like this. Will homeless people still go to the nearest park? or will they go straight to these tents?

Have you considered making a camping ground for tourists?

The original properties from the normal parks stays as they are, so yes, the homeless are still going for them. These homeless tents are no different, only that it that it doesn't attracts workers, kids, visitors, etc.

Another tent-related idea... music festival! Tents, stages, food stalls, lots of tourists. Could be fun but would obviously take a lot more work.

its possible. Will be added as part of the projects.

Damn man, you sir are awesome. Realistic is on the way. Thank you yayie.

You're welcome, enjoy.

Looks good. Near a Highway would be the place to them ones that don't gas Exit and On Ramps.

alleyways, under a bridge, commercial district.

I wonder if it's possible to make it so that homeless sims will generate these tents? Homeless people aren't very visible in parks but if these tents were popping up by themselves it could add something to the game. And if you don't want homeless people living under bridges etc then a homeless shelter/soup kitchen could be plopped (with a cost per hour). Sims could work at a homeless shelter/soup kitchen or volunteer and gain happiness.

Something for the modders to think about?

Most of you modders have been working on Orion and Akar so this is a great addition tio the game.

This month we're hoping for a little bit of a boost this month or next, in addition to covering the regular bills, we could benefit from some hardware upgrades. STEX Collector's Set gifts can now be sent to you via digital download as well as regular mail if you wish! Every donation dollar goes toward keeping Simtropolis online and humming along. Your contribution counts! Hardware Upgrades As our website community software improves with more and more features, and as we bolt on additional features such as chat, the increased load to handle all these new toys is taking the server a bit to task. You may have noticed that we'd been forced to temporarily disable the chat as we worked out allocating resources for more optimal performance. Following this, we've applied a number of 'soft' changes such as caching options and experimented with server configurations (nginx as proxy, for example), so the hardware aspect is also an area we'd like to focus on. The last time we upgraded hardware was back in 2012, prior to the release of SC13. Your contribution means a lot! Your donation will go toward helping us to 1.) migrate to a newer server or 2.) at least get some ram/cpu/storage updates and any other infrastructure hardware or services. Donate and Get a Gift or Donate Any Amount Thanks so much! - Dirktator & The Admins

I'm going to spill the beans.
SimCity 4 has been out for a solid 14 (!) years now, yet we as a community still have pretty good control over this game's content.
What are the benefits and / or risks if, say I upload my plugins folder somewhere for anyone to download? That would be at their own risk.
Obviously it's nice to credit the creator, as if everyone downloads files individually they can track the number of people who are using their files. It also lets members rate and comment on them too for good feedback. If rules were relaxed, there's be a big change to this.
I get asked all the time to upload my plugins folder and usually my answers for not doing so seem to fall flat, especially over the years. It may be a good time for us to refresh our policy around this topic. A change to protectionism could open SC4 to a bunch of new users, but that comes with changes to the use policies we as a community have set up.
I'd like to know your thoughts. This thread is for discussion only. It is not a means to argue or challenge anything.

EDIT: See a similar discussion on SC4D here: http://sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=17599.0 Thanks @Akallan!

I'm attempting to import an airport model into Cities: Skylines but all I have tried has failed. I have used 3ds Max but every single time I try, the textures are messed up in-game. I haven't tried Blender because I just don't know how.

Has anyone got any tips? I've been trying to do this for at least 8 hours now. Please help me out.

I have become more familiar in 3Ds Max and even gained enough expertise in it over the past few months that I think my skill level is approaching a point where I think I am good enough to start making mods for Cities: Skylines. I started practicing in 3DsMax to make brick rowhouses for the game Banished but since I am more interested in Cities: Skylines now and my buildings were practice so I can mod C:S, I decided to start a new project of making buildings just for Cities: Skylines.

I whipped this building up over the course of 4-7 hours today. It would have taken only 1 or 2 hours had I not made a ton of mistakes that required me to start from the beginning.

It will normally grow on a 4 tile wide x 3 tile deep lot with the ability to grow on a 4x4 lot with a backyard.
FYI, I plan on making a ColorMask for the outer 2 rowhouses so it could have more variety (bright red, pink, tan, and whitewashed).

Please give me feedback to help me improve the quality of my creations.

      Thank you!

      Hi All,

This is a very simple upgrade for the "Roadside Trees", those trees that you can plop in the roads in order to create more beauty and healthy neighborhood. I've always thought it was absurd that those trees weren't able to increase land value. In my opinion, a tree-lined street is a much more valued street.
So, this mode creates a (very) small amount of medium and high value on the fully tree-lined streets you create. Its a very small amount, but suffice to give beauty, healthy AND some value to the streets of your city.
I also re-introduce the Pine Tree as roadside tree. It creates a beautiful line if you put it on the streets next to the Worship Set's "Chinese Temple" or the wonderful Japanese Temples from Project Shinjidai, created by XoXiDe (http://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/29906-project-shinjidai-xoxide/).
      I hope you enjoy.
      THIS IS AN OFFLINE MOD.
Install by copying the .package file into your ...\Origin\SimCity\SimCityData\ folder.

    • Thanks, T Wrecks...rewards are such a giant pain to make! So I usually try and put something daft in to try and compensate...this is my nod to the g20 . As far as I know, the OG doesn't do anything, but there is an ATR file in sim city1. dat  (I think it's 0x49a59e37 - 0x01601900), but it might have been deemed a bit too graphic, or it could just have been like the other dozen or so atr files that aren't used in anything....   Oh, and btw, citybuilder234, the building looks like whatever I tell you it looks like.....
    • It doesn't even look like a convention center. Looks like a building at a community college or a state university.
    • Wow, what a fantastic building! I like the intricate shapes of this one, and the many different areas. There are so many details to take in that it really takes a while to grasp the entire structure. I also agree that there's not much going in in terms of conference centres, so this really fills a gap. Kudos for all the reward modding too - I know that part is pretty tedious und ungratifying work (unless you're some sick masochist ). What I also like is how well the lot complements the building, and it acomplishes that with so few and so simple means. Just a few default overlays and props, and we have a lot that leaves nothing to be desired. The one tiny suggestion I have is that all your recent buildings have had their names (and, in cases like this one, also their function) baked into the model. This is not bad generally because it allows a better visual appearance, but sometimes it limits flexibility a bit. The building in question could totally double as a modern city college, for example, or maybe even as a university (not all modern universities are sitting on a lush campus, after all!), but then there's the "Convention Center" lettering in front. I guess it can be covered with cleverly placed flora props... Fun fact: I never knew that there was an Occupant Group "burning dude maker" - what the...???
