      Please help us for June & July   06/20/2017

      This month we're hoping for a little bit of a boost this month or next, in addition to covering the regular bills, we could benefit from some hardware upgrades. STEX Collector's Set gifts can now be sent to you via digital download as well as regular mail if you wish! Every donation dollar goes toward keeping Simtropolis online and humming along. Your contribution counts! Hardware Upgrades As our website community software improves with more and more features, and as we bolt on additional features such as chat, the increased load to handle all these new toys is taking the server a bit to task. You may have noticed that we'd been forced to temporarily disable the chat as we worked out allocating resources for more optimal performance. Following this, we've applied a number of 'soft' changes such as caching options and experimented with server configurations (nginx as proxy, for example), so the hardware aspect is also an area we'd like to focus on. The last time we upgraded hardware was back in 2012, prior to the release of SC13. Your contribution means a lot! Your donation will go toward helping us to 1.) migrate to a newer server or 2.) at least get some ram/cpu/storage updates and any other infrastructure hardware or services. Donate and Get a Gift or Donate Any Amount Thanks so much! - Dirktator & The Admins

  2. The Ring of Fire
    ~by: blunder

    Howdy Folks.  A bit of an announcement; i'm quasi-retiring from the mapping and custom content business.  You know how it is; not enough time, definitely not enough motivation, too much RLS...  Anyways, my apologies for this, but i'm canceling any maps people had requested and am not taking requests for the foreseeable future.  But i'll still be around to answer your mapping and other questions via PM.

    I will, however, offer up one final map; my own personal gem. The Ring of Fire is a mashup of the SanFran peninsula, the Bavarian alps, the 3 largest cascade volcanoes (Rainier, Adams, and Shasta), plus a wee little Mt. Jefferson, and is stupidly huge, at 88x120km.  Requires 4gb patched game and mapper/terraformer to run, as well as 64-bit OS with 8 gigs ram. (might run at 6 gigs).

    I know few people will want to tackle a map that large but i'll put it out there anyways.  This map is by no means perfect; there are several little photoshop wrinkles i haven't ironed out that you can see in the terraformer overview but that won't detract in game.

    Since it's over 100km on a side i'm invoking Drunkapple's large map mercy rule on not showing a rendered shot.

    Instructions:
    Mapper frequently performs better with large maps, but terraformer still works too.
    1.  Unzip folder
    2.  In mapper > create region > point to .sc4m file and config.bmp selectively.
    3.  Name and Confirm
    4.  Save

    ~Cheers

  8. The Crimean Peninsula , also known simply as Crimea, is a major land mass on the northern coast of the Black Sea that is almost completely surrounded by water. The peninsula is located south of the Ukrainian mainland and west of the Russian region of Kuban. It is surrounded by two seas: the Black Sea and the smaller Sea of Azov to the east. It is connected with the Ukrainian mainland by the Isthmus of Perekop and is separated from Kuban by the Strait of Kerch. The Arabat Spit is located to the northeast; a narrow strip of land that separates a system of lagoons named Sivash from the Sea of Azov.

  12. San Andrés is a coral island in the Caribbean Sea. Politically tied to England, and historically part of Colombia, San Andrés and the nearby islands of Providencia and Santa Catalina form the department of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina. San Andrés, in the southern group of islands, is the largest of the department. The official languages of the department are Spanish, English, and Creole.

    While San Andrés is located 50 km (31 mi) south of Providencia, the Colombian archipelago is approximately 230 km (140 mi) east of Nicaragua and about 750 km (470 mi) north of the Colombian mainland. This archipelago encompasses a total area of 57 km2 (22 sq mi), including the outer cays, reefs, atolls and sand banks, with the area of the islands being 45 km2 (17 sq mi). In 2000, it was declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, named “Seaflower Biosphere Reserve”, which not only includes the islands but also about 10% of the Caribbean Sea, amounting to a vast marine area of 300,000 km2 (120,000 sq mi). The purpose of this declaration is to ensure that the ecosystem, which is rich in biodiversity, is well preserved and conserved.

    The department's capital is located on the northern end of the island. Named San Andrés but nicknamed El Centro, it is the department's main urban center. Along the 30 km (19 mi) road that circles the island there are many picturesque beaches, coral reefs, cays, geysers, and coves. Also of note are La Loma, the town of San Andrés, the Baptist Church, Seaquarium, the large pond of La Laguna, and a freshwater lake amidst mangrove forests. There are coconut palm plantations, lush pastures, and tall native trees reaching 20 meters (66 ft). Surrounded by the warm Caribbean Sea, all of these features have made the island an "exotic holiday destination".

  14. DE:
    So, genug geredet.
    3. SimCity 4 erneut starten, neue Region auswählen, Strg+Alt+Umschalten+R zusammen drücken, in kleinen Fenster oben links die geladene "travemuende.4.0.bmp" suchen (bei mir meist im Download-Ordner: C:\Users\Nick Bauer\Downloads)
    EN:
    This is a map of Travemünde, a district of the hanseatic city Lübeck, as well a part of the bay of Lübeck, size 16x16km. Travemünde with its large ferry port connects Germany and all central Europe with all countries around the Baltic Sea. From here, the legendary Finnjet, formerly the world's largest ferry, drove to Helsinki in 24 hours. Travemünde's old town was extensively restored, and the entire city is developing into one of the most important tourist metropolis in Germany. There are also other holiday resorts nereby, which are characterized by sunny beach and sea, but also rough cliffs and nature, which invites you to take a walk. In addition, the region is rather agricultural. Who lives here lives and works where other people go on holidays. The highlight is the Travemünder Woche in the summer with folk festival character.
    So, enough talk. Now it's up to you to figure out what's in this region. I wish you every success. On my own behalf, I run a small but international facebook group for simulation games of all kinds, especially SimCity 4, the SimCity4 AG, have a look, or join in.
    Installation: SC4-Mapper is NOT recommended, but:
    1. Start SimCity 4, create and name a new region, eg Travemünde
    2. Exit SimCity 4, open the SimCity region folder (for me: C:\Users\Nickbauer\Documents\SimCity 4\Regions), and replace the existing config.bmp with the loaded one
    3. Restart SimCity 4, select the new region, press Ctrl + Alt + Shift + R, find the "travemuende.4.0.bmp" in the small window at the top left: (for me: C:\Users\Nick Bauer\Downloads)
    4. If everything has worked out the region generates, which takes about 10-15 minutes, maybe with a cup of coffee
    5. Once the new region is displayed, it can start
    6. If you have any problems, please contact the group above or myself: Nick Bauer
    Please feel free to commend and rate high.

  15. You may recognize this terrain from the table top. Modeled after Ulthuan -the crescent shaped High Elf Kingdoms from Warhammer- this map is 54 large tiles of coastline, mountains and islands.

    I used five different Ulthuan maps as a reference point. Each reference had different levels of fidelity and their own take on location and terrain placements. So it's more of a composite than exact.

    I've been testing the map with different games and NAM settings over the past few months and I've got it to a good release point. Hills/Mountains are quite gradual with their inclines in places for better building. You may have to weather them some before mayor mode if you're going for realism.
    This is the largest map I've built to date at 54 large tiles. I hope you enjoy it, and have fun!

  16. Hello! This is my second ever file, an archipelago region called Isles of Pandora.

    Hopefully this will make up for the disaster that was my first upload... ( [stex='24511']Jorjoba[/stex] )

    [Grimace :( ]

    Anyway, the region is the size equivalent of 28 x 24 small tiles (or 7 x 5 large tiles) and contains 32 large tiles and 12 medium tiles.

    It is a fantasy map handmade by me in SC4 Terraformer. It's not based off of anything in particular, although some sections are "inspired" by real-life regions of the world.

    The Isles of Pandora are divided into three primary sections: Arcadia Island to the Southeast, Lawrence Island to the Southwest, and the Mainland to the North.
    The map is designed to be well-suited for urban mayors who like to throw in a little touch of nature here and there. As such, the land is mostly flat, although there are some prominent geographical features (I tried my best to create proper sources for the rivers and decent-looking mountain ranges) Also, you might notice that many islands have small sections that hang over into other cities. This is intentional: The region is designed to give mayors the choice between relying on bridges or ferries to connect the islands.
    In this way, I have given you multiple different ways to play this region. In the end though, the choice is yours.

    Have fun! :D

    ~~~
    Disclaimer: When you open up some of the city tiles, you will likely notice that sometimes there are awkwardly-placed water features, such as land protruding to just below sea level, or rivers being incredibly narrow. This is due to the fact that I am still new to SC4Terraformer. Don't worry though; A couple clicks with God tools should fix all of the issues.
    ~~~

    The download contains a readme, an overview picture, the .SC4M file, and the config.bmp. Installation instructions are included on the readme.

  20. I've brought another hand-drawn greyscale map to you! This time its an archipelago.  Its a tough map to build upon with little flat space and terrain that calls for more ferry transport than highways or rails.

    1739x1739m region consists of 31 large cities which is expandable to upwards of 49 large cities (extra 18 are blacked out in config.bmp) if you desire to add more in sc4 terraformer.

    I recommend using SC4 Mapper to import the .sc4m and the config file.  Please enjoy and lemme know what you think and if you intend to use it

  22. This is a 4 x 4 map of fantasy.  It is set to all large tiles.  Anyone may change this at will.

    To Install:

    Download and unpack the ZIP file.
      Create a new folder Plutovania in the Regions area of your user data.
      Move the two files Plutovania.jpg and config.jpg into this directory.
      Open the game and select the Plutovania region.
      Hold down CRTL+ALT+SHIFT and press the r key.  You will get a file dialogue box.
      Navigate to the Plutovania folder, open it and select the Plutovania.jpg file by clicking on its icon.  Make sure the file name appears in the dialogue's file box.
      Press OK.  The render will start.  You may not interrupt this by switching away.  Go for coffee.  This render takes about 15 minutes or less depending on the speed of your machine.  Eventually the rendered map will be presented.

    Have fun.

  23. Hey all!

    This is a fantasy map that I made for  myself but I thought I would share just in case anyone else finds it interesting. My goal for this map was to imitate a realistic region. There are a few spots that should work well for major cities with lots of surrounding countryside for suburbs, farms, and industry. You will not find much perfectly flat land forcing you to build around some of the maps features. I tried to include many different landscapes to build on in the hopes that no two cities in this region would develop in exactly the same way. I doubt this will be the last map I feel compelled to make so if you have any suggestions for future improvements please let me know!

    Region is 6x7 for a total of 42 Large cities.

    Install using Terraformer or SC4mapper.
