  1. Fluffy Island is the third major island of the Sparkle Kingdom,  located south of Stripe Island and 20 Miles Southeast of the Mainland. It has helped provide the country's electronic systems. It is basically the equivalent of Silicon Valley in the US.  The largest city on the Island is New Schulmania, and it is also the capital of the state. It is the leading major provider of electronics and the city with the most cat owners per capita. (Yes, that's a reference to Schulmania by @Schulmanator.) It is also the location of the national NVIDIA headquarters, national Microsoft Headquarters, and the famous ITS Office Park.

  2. This map began with a modelled picture of a dove, and was processed into an 8-bit 256 indexed grayscale. It was discovered that although a grayscale height-map could be 8-bit and 256 shades of gray, it must also be 'indexed' specifically as a grayscale image otherwise SC4 will simply render a flat region.  Thanks to @CorinaMarie for investigating the format and rendering the image into the initial dove-shaped island landscape.  From there, I developed the 'Dove Islands' region theme with a city layout (config.bmp).
    Included in the zip-file is the preview image, install instructions (readme.txt), the Dove Islands region height-map, config.bmp, and region.ini file.  Also included is a file for the cloud background in the preview.  The 'region_bg_1-clouds.dat' may be placed in the Plugins folder where the game is installed.

    Install:
    1. Place 'Dove Islands' folder in user account Documents/SimCity 4/ Regions folder.
    2. Load SC4 and select 'Dove Islands' region
    3. In region view press CNTRL+SHIFT+ALT+R and navigate to Grayscale Heightmap subfolder.
    4. Select Dove_lslands_513x449.bmp
    5. Wait for SC4 to render the map and create the city files.

  3. I met @LonestarYankee88 in the chat room last night and received a request for a 10 x 10 large tiles map with lots of hills and places to build bridges. So, using the new technique I discovered in my antique Photoshop Elements program I present this file.
    The included Config.bmp is 40 x 40 pixels and all blue which gives 100 large tiles total. The grayscale is, ofc, 2561 x 2561 pixels. Render time on my old 2.8ghz comp with 2gb of Ram was 26 minutes and 6 seconds. Peeps with faster comps can prolly render it quicker. One thing to note: Since all tiles are the same size you will not see any progress or change on your screen whilst rendering. Go have lunch and check it later.
     The file from which to render the region is: Cori 10x10 Lg Gray.bmp. There is no Read Me file since this is like any other grayscale map that you render in game. See How to Install a Map From the STEX.

    This wouldn't have been possible without inspiration from CorinaMarie, a fantastic simtrop member. Her way of using cloud grayscales was how i made this.

    History:
    Krampa DeSimmia is a micronation that archaeologists found to be the site of multiple meteorite, meteor, asteroid, etc. attacks. It is high up in cliffs and is very eroded. mayor (your name if you downloaded this) has taken it upon himself to develop it, Can he do it?!
    Thing not mentioned in readme: lowkee addons were the cliff addons, transparent water, snow and increases elevation, danke!!!

  5. Some of you might remember my first rendition of this map in Finally Made a Map I'm Happy With.  I've since discovered new things I can do in my antique Photoshop Elements and now I've smoothed it out a considerable amount. While it certainly isn't pancake flat, I do feel it's much more buildable and it transitions well to the hills.
    The 1st screenshot above is shown fully painted with vanilla Maxis trees. The 2nd screenshot is the transportation view with boundaries. (If you use my included Config.bmp.) The 3rd screenshot is the grayscale from which to render this region. This region is 12x12 pixels in size which equates to the 769x769 grayscale image. I prefer this size cause I can see the entire region when I load it using 1600x1200 resolution. There is no Read Me file since this is like any other grayscale map that you render in game.   6. Stripe Island is a Pacific Island located 12 Miles East of the main island of the Sparkle Kingdom, Two Tails Island. It is the second of six States of the Sparkle Kingdom, gaining statehood on March 10, 1922. It's capital is the City of Chesterfield, located on the North Central end of the island. Stripe Island also played a major role in Lightspeed War as the last line of defense before the conquest of the Kingdom altogether. It wasn't until the fall of 2013 when the war finally turned sour for the Lightspeed Dictatorship, when Stripe Island was fully recaptured. After this, the Island's manufacturing city of Charmander started making weapons for the SK to use.

  7.  This file includes the following readme.txt file and an HTML file with info and resources for map-making.
    Install instructions:
    1.) Launch SC4. In Region View Create a New Region. Name it 'The ArcoDonut' or whatever you want.  Save the region by clicking Create Region and exit SC4.
    2.) Navigate to your Regions folder in your user profile under SimCity 4. In the Regions folder is now a new folder named The ArcoDonut, or whatever you named the Region.  Inside the folder are two files: config.bmp, region.ini.  Delete the config.bmp file and replace it with the one found in the unzipped folder.  Leave the region.ini file as it contains the name given to the region.
    3.) Re-launch SC4 and load the ArcoDonut region. In Region View press CTRL-ALT-SHIFT-R.  You should now have a window in the top-left corner. 
    4.) Navigate to the location of the 'Grayscale Heightmap' subfolder and open the file  'Z_ArcoDonut_833x769.bmp'.  The simulator should begin processing the map. If successful, you will see the region with city layout.  The processing takes from a few minutes to several minutes to complete. 
    5.) Before starting a new city, the terrain may have to be raised by one increment  in the large cities to give you plenty of area to build on,  depending on what terrain mods are installed.

  8. This is just another map where I'm trying to create a cross between real world hills and valleys without going overboard on mountains. I've included the screenshots, the grayscale (from which to render this region), and a Config.Bmp in the zip file. There is no Read.Me file since this is the same thing one does with any grayscale map image.
    The pics above are:
    Region View covered with Maxis Trees Region View showing land and Tile Borders (if you use my config.bmp) The Grayscale to render from One of the five Large City Tiles Another of the five Large City Tiles In that last pic I'm showing the sandbank and reef that's just slightly under water. My idea is that when the city finally needs more area this land can be raised using mayor mode tools and then built upon.
    The grayscale image is 769x769 pixels which corresponds to the 12x12 config.bmp. I favor the smaller regions cause I like to be able to see the whole thing on my tiny monitor. You can, ofc, simply resize the grayscale and create an appropriate sized config if you like.

    Any resemblance of this map to the real world is solely in the imagination of the creator.

  10. So, in a thread in SC4 General Discussion someone was trying to create a map from the DEM data centered on Brooklyn, New York. I wasn't able to render anything I liked with the posted grayscale, but I did manage to create one that sorta resembles the area. It's not accurate to any scale in any of the three dimensions, but I feel it turned out rather well. At least for my first attempt at a real world map. I've called it Borilyn as in a boring version of Brooklyn.
    I've included a Config.Bmp in the zip that I like the best for where the land masses are located. Grayscale image size is 705x705 which corresponds to an 11x11 config.bmp. I chose this size cause it fits top to bottom when I play 1024x768. (At 1600x1200 it'll fit side to side too.) Also included is a Region.Ini file in case you want to create the region folder manually. Then there are the two region view files in there as the identifiers when you go browsing the zip. (The RV in the name is my shorthand for Region View.)
    Ok, so let me know any comments you have.

     
    Edit: I just found out there's already a much better map for New York City - United States (File # 40) here on ST so just ignore mine.

  11. En : I Know how much precise is a previous file based on satellite datas. Whenever, this version watch many interests . The uncompressed file is plug and play in the Region folder. This region is partitionned to zone correctly main towns. Its concept is to try several potilical actions. It can be as from fondation, as with actual mayors(2014). A pdf file content all this informations. Up to you to do better, or, a little bit more difficult, hire actions!
    Future updates would have more precise relief, preloaded dates of fondations, ...
    Fr : Je sais ô combien il existe une version précise de l'île basée sur relevé satellite. Cette version présente plusieurs intérêts. Le dossier est plug and play dans les Régions. La région est découpée de manière à représenter les principales communes historiques. Il est possible d'y tenter plusieurs politiques, dès l'origine, ou avec les maires actuels (élection municipales 2014, voir un des fichiers pdf joint), d'y faire mieux ou, plus difficile, pire qu'eux!
    Les versions ultérieures pourraient soit être plus précise,soit avoir des villes à date préchargée pour leur création, ...

    All linked with tiles terraformed by me. The region is 4x7 large citi tiles. It has two big parts of land separated by a large portion of water (ocean, sea, huhe river whater you whant to call it).
    Also you have mountains, mesas, valleys, hills, islands, lakes, flatlands, a bayou everithing you need to create a huge LAish city or a nice region with small cities and villages separated with big agricultural fields.

  13. This region contains one island, about 416 square kilometers. It was created for my city journal which i'll post a thread about later. It is my first map so constructive criticism is welcome as i'm terrible at terraforming. (Especially mountains) It is also perfect for building a major metropolitan area, building an agricultural nation, or just simply making the equivalent of Hong Kong and maxing out population. (You would have to get rid of the mountains and rivers first)
     
    This map has no dependencies, it looks like it is your lucky day.

    How to install
    This map is in .sc4m format, so you need SC4Mapper or SC4Terraformer to install it (I recommend both). Both programs could be found in the LEX or STEX.
    With Mapper:
    1. Having it, you have to go to your Regions folder (usually, in Documents/Simcity 4/Regions) and create a subfolder with the desired name.
    2. Open the Mapper and click on 'Create Region', choose 'SC4M' as source and check the map is correctly loaded. You can change the city tiles distribution with 'Edit config.bmp' if you want, or leave as it is.
    3. When ready, click 'Save Region', choose a name and close the Mapper.
    4. Open the game and change to the new region. The colours will be the ones you have in the Mapper, and will change to match your water and terrain mods while you save your city tiles.

    What is this region?
    Ciudad del Lago is a fictional location that I've terraformed along years of playing with Maxis' Berlin and London regions (yes, that stream on the west is what's left of the Spree). After adding more than 100% of new area, I decided to try and see what you can do with this place.
    The terraforming, of course, does not mimic a purely natural terrain, but includes several modifications, that allow a faster settlement of infraestructure, like sea and airports, leveled city centres and some adequately sloped lanes for motorways. There's also a lot of natural barriers, which would add some fun (and the need of several tunnels and brigdes).
    In the most terraformed areas, I opted for keeping the terrain exactly 30 meters over sea level, allowing to draw brigdes that permit the pass of ferries. Using those platforms (or newer analogous), you can extend ferry lines up to the extremes of all causeways, complementing your network infraestructure.
    The whole map extends over a 24 kilometers side square.
     
    This files are a free contribution, that can be redistributed in its original form or remixed, by mentioning the authors name. The original creator of some pieces is Maxis, and I remixed it and added most of the map.

  15. This is my first upload region for SimCity4, GREATER YOSEMITH. It is the land with mountains, hills and rivers. My inspiration for this SimCity4 region was came from the national parks and nature reserve. For additional information, those rivers is not really deep.

  16. Hello people! My name is Seb and today I am sharing with you a Region I just began to create. The name is a little bit odd... It might change as the region isn't complete yet. So the idea of the map I am building is to make it a large island with many medium/large sized islands on the other sides. Also, the coasts are very high and the most flat part is at the top of those cliffes. So now, let take a look at the work wich has been done yet.

    This is the Hamburg metropolitan region with 5 million inhabitants, it is also my home. Hamburg is the second largest city in Germany and the city with the second highest number of bridges in the world after NYC. That's a fourfold map, to create in SimCity4 a 32px-config.bmp is required.

  21. DE: Dies ist die Region rund um die Stadt Schleswig. Gelegen and der Schlei, 25.000 Einwohner, regional etwa 110.000. Eine Region mit Geschichte. Das nördlichste Bundesland von Deutschland, dennoch leben hier Dänen und Deutsche zusammen. Wie man sieht ist das Land flach, Die Schlei ist schiffbar bis zur Ostsee, jedoch keine Konkurrenz zu Kiel, Lübeck, Gedser oder Kopenhagen, heute nicht mehr. In dieser Region finden sich aber viele Spuren der legenderen Wikinger.
    Da Simcity 5 ja ein Totalausfall ist, habe ich diese neue Region für Simcity 4 gebastelt. Nicht New York, nicht Tokio und nicht Rio, sondern eine Region in Norddeutschland.

    GB: This is the region around the town of Schleswig. Located and the Schlei, 25,000 inhabitants, some 110,000 regionally. A region with a rich history. The northernmost state of Germany, still live here Danes and German together. As you can see the land is flat, the Schlei is navigable to the Baltic Sea, but no competition to the harbours of Kiel, Lübeck, Gedser or Copenhagen, no longer. In this region, however, will find many traces of the place whose Vikings.
    Since Simcity 5 is indeed a total failure, I made this new region for Simcity 4. Not New York, not Tokyo and not Rio, but a region in northern Germany.

  23. This is my first SimCity 4 map I've ever uploaded.
    The Zephyr River Basin is an original idea of mine while i was bored at school. It has many river converging between two mountain ranges, providing a very water-based city to develop.
    It is 7x7 medium tiles.
    Sudden Valley Terrain mod and MayorBean's OceanRiverMOD were used in the screenshot.

  25. This is a huge map. It covers most of Long Island.
    I did have it cover all the way to Queens, but the region just crashed as soon as it loaded so I reduced it in size.
    Its 'only' 120km ish long haha. Enjoy.

      A must for a midwestern city, this little gem seems to embody the understated balance which is found on some of their old buildings, and is surely able to express it to the benefit of surrounding environment - utilitarian and simple yet subtly graceful, can easily complement, and fit into, many contexts, lending it's humble contribution to their enrichment.

      This is a good demonstration of how the SC4 map renderer can be used to design maps that reflect a symbol or an idea, or just a 'perfect' world optimized for the game and its functions, especially networking and placing of objects.   I've used this method myself to make pictures of a dove, a donut, and even used a script font on my Earth maps.    For the above male and female symbols I see a use for my continuing ferry experiments and access of cruise and shipping connections to other tiles in the region.   The idea for the ferries is to see if I can get all traffic using ferries --with no bridges.   So thanks for these examples.
