Please help us for June & July   06/20/2017

This month we're hoping for a little bit of a boost this month or next, in addition to covering the regular bills, we'd love to be able to do some hardware upgrades. STEX Collector's Set gifts can now be sent to you via digital download as well as regular mail if you wish! Every donation dollar goes toward keeping Simtropolis online and humming along. Your contribution is so meaningful, every dollar counts! Hardware Upgrades We've received a recommendation to consider some hardware upgrades to our ageing server. As our website community software improves with more and more features, and as we bolt on additional features such as chat, the increased load to handle all these new toys is taking the server a bit to task. You may have noticed that we'd been forced to temporarily disable the chat as we worked out allocating resources for more optimal performance. Following this, we've applied a number of 'soft' changes such as caching options and experimented with server configurations (nginx as proxy, for example), so the hardware aspect is also an area we'd like to focus on. The last time we upgraded hardware was back in 2012, prior to the release of SC13. Your contribution means a lot! Your donation will go toward helping us to 1.) migrate to a newer server or 2.) at least get some ram/cpu/storage updates and any other infrastructure hardware or services. 1. This is my first hand-made map.
Serenity Valley has two small winding rivers that converge on higher ground, then meet up with a larger, lower river. There are three possible locations for a hydro dam. A dam with 1600 MW at the big waterfall is possible.
Panoramic views of mountains and hills, with a small amount of playable space in the foothills. Otherwise, the map is flat at two different heights. The lowlands are fertile, the highlands have some oil and ore.
There are also two canals, intended to look man-made, and perfect for use with waterfront walkways. (See example image above.)

Hats off to MrMiyagi for his wonderful map-making guide. I really needed help with my mountains, and I discovered his tip on using Wilbur.

Unfortunately for this map, I was too far into the project to use it, but I will definitely use it in the future. So the mountains are entirely hand drawn here, and I hope you find them suitable.
I hope you enjoy this map as much as I do. I imagined it for days and started it twice before it started to take shape.

  3. his is the map of the Salida in Colorado requested by a user on Simtropolis in a Temperate Biome.
It covers the whole town as its fairly small as well as the nearby town of Poncha Springs and Smeltertown.
To try and add some variation into the actual terrain I've done it as a fertile valley surrounded by scrubland. There are a lot of all the resources spread around as they offered more variations to the ground colour more than being accurate or realistic.
As for the connections it has the 285 running North to South with route 50 intersecting it East to West and the connecting 291, as well as the flight paths crossing over where the airport is in real life.
    Hope you all enjoy it!
    Cheers

  5. Hello everyone,

This is my first attempt at creating a custom map. I tried everything to create Palm Island, I use the resource http://terrain.party/  to capture terrain images but that didn’t work out so well. I googled palm island vector shapes placed the image into Photoshop and it worked. Note it will only work best if you have Photoshop CC which has bump map generator and it even works better if you have Photoshop CC 2015 this way you have control over how the bump map is generated. I also added a little filler to widen the spaces a bit. Over all there is a lot of space to create and build. Please let me know if there is something I may need to add or change. I have played the map and thus far seems to be no issues.

    Enjoy and have fun.

  6. Real World Map 007: Cattanooga USA
This is the real world map of Chattanooga, USA that was requested by a user on Wallacets made in the Temperate Biome.
Due to the whole area of Chattanooga being a lot larger than the area that we have available in a Cities Skylines Map the scale is 1 – 1.5, so the 2x2km squares in the map actually represent a 3x3km square of the real Chattanooga area and due to this, although I've tried my best to remain as accurate as possible, the roads and small creeks will be larger in game than they would be in real life. Still I'm pretty sure this won't affect the maps playability that much.
As for the resources, it has everything, though mostly forestry and fertile land. As for the connections it has highway 24 and its interchange with highway 27 and highway 75 and its interchange with highway 27, though they take up more land than they do in real life. Obviously it has no water connections but has the plane ones running roughly over where the airport is in real life.
Anyway I hope you all enjoy the map and don't forget to request any maps over in my thread if you want anything!

  7. In celebration of the new DLC we will get to enjoy soon with night life and beach/coast features, I give you San Juan, Puerto Rico. At least, I started with a height map of San Juan and put my own touch on it for enjoyable game play.
All transport types are available, and all resources are represented, with lots of fertile land and about 140,000 trees. With miles and miles of beaches, a seaport area, abundant highway access, and beautiful views of the hills and the sea, this map provides the perfect canvas for your Caribbean paradise.
I highly recommend using the 25 tiles mod, and there are a few palm trees you'll need to download for full beach front effect.

  8. RECLAMATION ISLAND

This island has little space to start out with, but much more land is just under the surface of the water! However, the brains over at Metroburgville University have come up with a soultion: Build a seawall and pump the water out! Besides, they have done the research, and have found vast quantities of natural resources down there. As soon as they tell the stiffs down at city hall, the money will start flowing in!

The only mods that are required to play this map are as follows: 1) Any mod that allows the player to use the terrafroming tool durnig gameplay (I use Terraform Tool 0.8); and 2) All 25 spaces unlockable. Technically speaking, the map is completely playable without those mods, but is designed with these two mods in mind. Comments appreciated.

  9. Here's the map requested by Chesh of the Forster/Turncurry area of Australia.
Done in the Temperate Biome this contains all the resources as requested and all the major land masses around the area. Should hopefully create a interesting area to build on.
The main highway route is based roughly around The Lakes Way Road and runs from north to south and a fictional train line runs parrallel to it. As requested it also has air and sea connections.
Hope you all enjoy it and don't forget to visit my thread here if you have any requests!

  10. This is the map of the Daytona Beach area of Florida requested by CloudyDaTroll, made in a Tropical Biome.
It shows a stretch of the beach where the centre of the actual town is located and has both the I-95 and I- 92 interchange and the I-95 and I-4 interchange,
Also included is a long strip of the beach and a large number of pools of water that are slightly artistically licensed but are an attempt to represent the many pools of water that cover the area.
At the requesters instruction we have plenty of trees and some fertile land patches away from the shore as well as a bit of ore to have some varied land colours but no oil as the requester didn't want any.
Hope you all enjoy it and don't forget to visit my thread here if you have any requests!

  11. I started with a height map of Cartagena and improved it for game play. The map has plenty of resources, including extensive farm land and about 150,000 trees. It has ship, air, rail and road transportation in all possible directions.
There are three available sweet spots (straightline shore) for cargo ports or scenic walkways, and a great spot for centralize sewage drainage leading off the map.  There's also a good mix of flat and hilly land for interesting landscapes.
I definitely recommend using the 25 tile mod on this one.

I drove to Louisville this week and got inspired to map it. I made a few minor changes to improve game play, including a sweet spot for cargo ports. There's also a drainage reservoir on the way out of town down the Ohio River.

  18. This is the Broom's Head map requested by fig_aro.
Scale Temperate map of the area in question with fictional highways and railway as well as loads of brush and some arable land.

Also added a little bit of oil and ore mainly for the colour variations for the asthetics but also for some functionality (the original requester wasn't bothered by the ore and oil.

The map also has a main highway and then single lane roads leading to the actual starting square giving it a intersting challenge (and in keeping with the request for single lane roads if possible).

Anyway I hope you all enjoy!

This is my first map, but I have worked hard to ensure a high level of detail, especially with regard to terraforming, water flow, resources, and transportation connections. I've also made a few areas near the lake that will be ideal for cargo ports. There are both ground-level and elevated highways, a large swath of farm land, and sweeping views of the mountains.
This is based on a height map of Geneva and the surrounding areas, but not on a 1:1 scale.
If you try it out, I'd love your feedback.

It's a very flat map, with some hills and such in the outskirts and where the King's Castle was located on the western side of the map. Good amount of resources for those who like to just build without worrying about scarce resources!

  23. Greetings all.
This is my first upload to the Simtropolis community, and I hope despite the bad quality, you can find some enjoyment out of my creation.
    --------------------------------------------
As you can see by the title, this map is basically a big square that fits (sort of) into a 1x1 tile in the game (an area of 2km squared in the game). It technically isn't a square, since I have modified a small area north of the highway entrance of the city to be able to fit water and sewage pumps, so it's playable in the one tile, but that doesn't really matter, and also to get the highway and railway down to ground level, and have them enter at 90 degrees to the tile border, I have made a slight outcrop into another square.
Unfortunately, I suck at making things. A lot. And this map is just one example. The edges aren't very straight, and venture very slightly outside the 1x1 tile this map is supposed to cover; this will be fixed in the future. Also, since I made this in about 5 minutes or so, it isn't very realistic (not in the sense that this island can't exist in the real life, which it can't); the sea floor is set to 60, sea level to 65, and land height is 70, so forgive me if you get annoyed by the sea floor being visible, I will fix this in a newer version. Also, there may be a few dents in the island, since I didn't bother properly smoothing it out.
Also, you may be wondering what the (A) in the version number stands for. Well, there are going to be at least 2 versions of this map. Version A is playable normally (in theory), with all connections available, and everything is buildable in the one grid square. The second version, the B version, will not have any road connections, and therefore is impossible to start your city in without mods. I am also thinking of making a C version, with resources available, subject to user interest.
Installation: Place the .crp file in C:\Users\[Your Username]\AppData\Local\Colossal Order\Cities_Skylines\Maps
I hope you find some enjoyment from my map.
    Cheers, ApexDriver
