Please help us for June & July   06/20/2017

This month we're hoping for a little bit of a boost this month or next, in addition to covering the regular bills, we'd love to be able to do some hardware upgrades. STEX Collector's Set gifts can now be sent to you via digital download as well as regular mail if you wish! Every donation dollar goes toward keeping Simtropolis online and humming along. Your contribution is so meaningful, every dollar counts! Hardware Upgrades We've received a recommendation to consider some hardware upgrades to our ageing server. As our website community software improves with more and more features, and as we bolt on additional features such as chat, the increased load to handle all these new toys is taking the server a bit to task. You may have noticed that we'd been forced to temporarily disable the chat as we worked out allocating resources for more optimal performance. Following this, we've applied a number of 'soft' changes such as caching options and experimented with server configurations (nginx as proxy, for example), so the hardware aspect is also an area we'd like to focus on. The last time we upgraded hardware was back in 2012, prior to the release of SC13. Your contribution means a lot! Your donation will go toward helping us to 1.) migrate to a newer server or 2.) at least get some ram/cpu/storage updates and any other infrastructure hardware or services. Donate and Get a Gift or Donate Any Amount Thanks so much! - Dirktator & The Admins

Chat is back...   06/22/2017

In order to conserve resources, we've disabled the global chatbar at the bottom of the site. Instead, the Chat can be accessed by clicking the top navigation tab. It will launch a new window. If you're not seeing this behavior, try clearing your browser's cache.

1. This is a 10000 capacity modern water taxi station, functions like the original passenger ferry terminal, plus more. The 1x4 station comes with its own bus stop, saves us from wasting a tile to a bus stop. A compact yellow & black water taxi will transfer your sims from station to station, as well as the original ferry terminals. Good news: this GDV water taxi is a totally new passenger ferry boat so it won't replace the original passenger ferry. The game will randomly show the original passenger ferry or the new water taxi embarking from this water taxi station, as well as the original ferry terminal! Reasonable priced $0.10 per ferry ticket will add some simoleons to your city fund. Find it under Water Transit menu Rush Hour Expansion: required Enjoy! As always, comments welcomed! Also - this painstaking creation has suffered a nasty accident upon launch - a "6" as the first vote. Based on the way rating works here is, damage can only be balanced by a 10 vote. Pls spare a minute to vote [this item took me more than 6000 minutes to create] Check out other creations of mine at Golidva's upload page: http://www.simtropolis.com/lots/index.cfm?mode=files&filetype=all&Str=goldiva or view/post screenshots at my BAT discussion: http://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=49563&forumID=37&catID=13&search=1&searchstring= [UPDATE 5.28] Description text simplified. 2. The most highly anticipated BAT building is finally available. Whether you lived 10 blocks away or 10,000 miles away, these buildings meant something to all of us. It was a shrine to economic prowess, and was one of the most recognizable buildings in the world. Now you can remember them in all their glory, or remember those that were lost by placing this tribute in your SimManhatten. There are 4 lots in this package (all info is in 2 simple .dat files which should be unzipped into your plugins folder). One set of subway enabled landmarks, and one set of the same landmark with jobs. Plop cost for each tower is 250,000 and has a capacity of 25,000 (both jobs and subway passengers). Sorry for not seperating the jobs/no jobs version. If I would have done that, it would require me to include the model file with each version, doubling the amount of space taken up on Dirk's server.

All you have to do is unzip the folder, delete the colours you don't want (each filename includes the colour) and place it in your Plugin folder.

Function: Garage/Car Park with 10000 capacity

4. Ok, here’s the one we have all been waiting for, it is my great honour to present the second part of my new WTC project, One World Trade Centre, aka the Freedom Tower. The tower has taken the best of this year to create and will form part of my last ever gmax project; the New WTC in NYC. After this I intend to move onto 3DSMax. The tower is 541m high and occupies a lot size of 7x5tiles. The lot is a partial diagonal lot although a non-diagonal version is now available on the sc4devotion LEX. The building provides 9100 CO$$$ jobs. Hope you all like my newest BAT project. Thanks again for all the support with making this tower.

Files Included:

CO$$$ Plopable version
Landmark Version

Kd5rax for use of tree models in the bat.

Special Thanks:
This goes to SimFox and Bixel in particular for all their help and advice with this project. Also very big thanks to all you at Simtropolis for helping and supporting me with this project.

Origin: San Antonio, Texas, USA.

The crowning masterpiece of architects Ayers & Ayers. Completed in 1929 in restrained late-Gothic Revival style, its observation decks decorated with terra-cotta and festooned with gargoyles offer grand views of the city. Originally named the Smith-Young Tower after its developers, this was for over twenty years the tallest building in Texas and home to the city's top architects, lawyers, and insurers. Architects Ayers & Ayers would even claim a whole top floor with observation deck for 360 degree panoramic views of the city below. Intended as the initial centerpiece of a new downtown commercial center of landmark high-rises, the tower would never see its envisioned sister buildings completed, for the shocking onset of the Depression would crush further grand building projects. The building is currently named the Tower Life Building after its primary tenant, Tower Life Insurance. With its glittering wedding-cake crown gleaming in floodlights at night, this tower remains among the most popularly recognized and admired skyscrapers in San Antonio.

I had hoped this could be a wall-to-wall or a diagonal lot, but the angles of the building base are just too bizarre. In exchange, I gave it a nice unpretentious plaza with an outdoor cafe.

DEPENDENCIES There are No Dependencies required for this BAT.

Let me know if there are any problems, as I do not have a city of sufficient size to test grow the growable version. Exemplar modding is another world for me, so who knows what I have really done. This model has been extremely long in coming, as I was planning it even BAT first came out, so I hope everyone enjoys it. A first BAT for me, hopefully there will eventually be more!

Many thanks to everyone here and in the BAT Forums for their help, tutorials, and encouragement with this little project. I've downloaded gigabytes of great stuff from here, so it about time I gave something back. Enjoy!

UPDATE: Version 1.01, updated the EQ boost stat, it's now closer to other library BATs on STEX.

8. My very first BAT dream was a yacht club. This creative baby was the 4th BAT project - after I learnt that amphibious buildings with custom foundations are among the hardest BATs to create. After two months of tears and joy, here it is. Costs quite a bit to plop. However, Roscoe's generous yacht club management pays you back $180 every month in coastal land lease! Ain't that cool.

Menu: Reward, Water Transit Rush Hour: compatible but not required
Contains original GDV BAT 3d models = 2

Confirmed to work as promised in the game by downloaders = YES!

So...enjoy! Do comment and vote if you like it.

9. Here it is my last Gmax project ever. Three years of planning, two years of modelling and countless computer hours later, the new World Trade Centre, NYC is available on the stex. Created to remember the events and those who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks ten years ago, the WTC is now available to all. The lot consists of all of the past WTC releases, updated for this model as well as the new memorial pavilion and plaza.

Please note that in order for this BAT to function correctly, you will need to download all of the past WTC projects. (See dependency list below)

The BAT is partially transit enabled and will provide 15600 CO$$$ jobs over a 16x22 lot. Hope you all like my newest BAT project. Thanks again for all the support with making this complex over the past few years.

10. The United Nations Project Proudly Presents…
The United Nations Building

Contributors to the project include: Amthaak, Cockatoo, Jasoncw and SimFox
And a special thanks goes to everyone in the Simtropolis BAT forums who provided us with feedback, support and that all important motivation to get stuff done…

Finally… it’s done. After 18 months of modelling, texturing, lighting, rendering, problems, more problems, hotfixes and caffeine, it gives me great pleasure to finally be able to share with you the fruits of our labour!

The United Nations Building (or Headquarters) was constructed on a dedicated site overlooking the banks of New York City's East River to house the newly formed body in the wake of the Second World War. An icon of modernist Architecture, the complex was collaboratively designed by a group of leading Architects of the period, including Oscar Niemeyer and even the famed Le Corbusier. At the time of its construction, the complex was revolutionary in both building techniques and design, being one of the first constructions in the world to sport a sleek modernist exterior that is now common in cities all over the world. Aside from occasional renovations and several additional structures, the complex remains in much the same state today as it did almost 60 years ago.

Done in much the same spirit as the real world building, we set out to recreate the massive complex collaboratively. The foundations were laid out in Australia with building plans being flown in from Finland. The glass, marble and asphalt were all imported from the United States and the fountain was especially made in France. This really was an international effort.

Just fitting into a single model file, the complex measures an enormous 18x11 SC4 tiles, making it one of the largest modes to ever be exported for this game. Additionally, weighing in at a massive 14.5 million polygons as well as utilising many of 3ds Max's more advanced features, it's also one of the heaviest models ever exported, requiring no less than 8GB of memory to resolve.

We tried our best to re-create the complex with as much attention to detail and accuracy as possible, and we hope you'll enjoy seeing our creation in your cities.

Versions Available:
We’ve made available a Dark truNite model for day/night mod users in addition to a regular Maxis truNite model for those who don’t. Select the version appropriate to you after clicking the download button.

13. Tired of Landfills that fill up? Want a way to get rid of garbage without the pollution and negative effects? The Black Hole Waste Management Corp is here to help. Mr. Black has designed a drill that will dig to a depth where the drill itself burns up as a result of heat from the Earth's core. He then caps the hole, lowers a dump shaft, and voila - no more garbage. No negative effects occur except the redish-orange glow at night. Plop - $5000 Bulldoze - $500 Maintenence - $500 Capacity - 1,000,000 per month Power produced - 5000 watts No negative pollution on any level. Improves industrial demand in its area. This is a radical lot because I wanted it for a region I am doing. I always get tired of making more deals and adding more landfill, so I came up with this. I would appreciate any input, and I am willing to update this as people want. Thanks alot, and enjoy!

15. It has been over a year since I have uploaded anything to the stex, but I finally managed to export something, a monument that needs no introduction.

There are no special modifications to the lot, or any other graphical improvements within simcity besides the tower itself.
Although, I had originally intended to have the lot modified, I simply did/do not have the time to worry about any further progress.

However, the model itself is greatly improved over the past uploads. This model includes the new esplanade, the Restaurant Jules Verne, elevators, stairwells, etc. Everything is scaled correctly (although, in real, life the Tokyo Tower is larger, in-game, it was scaled poorly; I used the Chrysler Building as my source of scaling).

I must thank SimFox for helping me with my exporting issues and providing mea new lighting rig for BAT4max, and I must also thank the members who helped me in other issues during my progress.

For my progress with this model (and to see the amount time and effort I put into the detail), view this thread:

16. McDonald's...
Is the world's leading food service retailer with more than 30,000 restaurants in 119 countries serving 47 million customers each day.
Is one of the world's most well-known and valuable brands and holds a leading share in the globally branded quick service restaurant segment of the informal eating-out market in virtually every country in which we do business. Serves the world some of its favorite foods - World Famous French Fries, Big Mac, Quarter Pounder, Chicken McNuggets and Egg McMuffin. Our rich history began with our founder, Ray Kroc. The strong foundation that he built continues today with McDonald's vision and the commitment of our talented executives to keep the shine on McDonald's arches for years to come.
www.mcdonalds.com   **UPDATED** 4/18/05   After learning new techniques I decided that this lot needed to be updated.  McDonalds has had a new facelift from the ground up including new textures, lighting and details. I have also made 3 different style street signs that will randomly change on the lots.   I am still awaiting the Custom UI's to be made but I felt that you should have the lot in the meantime.  This lot will go thru another update when those have been completed.  Also note that this is an exe file.   You will eventually be able to download the MAC version  from kbooms1w's website at: http://homepage.mac.com/kbooms1w/FileSharing7.html   McDonalds comes ploppable with 50 jobs and is a 4x4 LM lot also included is a CS$ 3x4 Growable. I also remade the 1x1 McDonald's Highway Sign lot. It will install into the parks menu. Plop one close to the highway for added realism . Hope you and your sims enjoy!   Special thanks to the BSC Team.

Unfortunately, I will be unable to frequent Simtropolis this summer, so consider this my "temporary going-away" present to Simtropolis (Dont worry, equinox plans to update the file if he can successfully make changes to the project). This building has 28,500 commercial office workers and features a true-to-life mall model found at the base of the towers, a skybridge, night lights, and a custom ui. A very special thanks goes out to Grover_G for the mall textures, equinox for the final rendering and packaging, and DarkMatter for his help at various points in the project. 22. Pedestrian Overpass cum Toll Booth by Goldiva [GDV]

Some of your sims may not want any toll collecting feature right outside their office and residential windows - noisy toll booths or electronic toll gate pillars. So what does a caring mayor do? Build GDV Pedestrian Overpass with built-in toll sensors!

Designed to blend in with existing SC4 urban aesthetics. This pedestrian overpass will put constant, realistic income in your city fund. Should not add to traffic build-up like orignal toll booth due to higher transit capacity. To disable the toll function, simply use the Lot Editor to turn the transit switch fee to 0.00.

Rush Hour expansion = required

Introduction / Overview
This new HKABT release is -barring some liberties at the base, mostly in context with pedestrian bridges- the accurate recreation of one of Hong Kong's most characteristic buildings, Lippo Centre. These twin towers with their highly complex shape and their reflective glass cladding broken into many surfaces are by far not the tallest in Hong Kong, topping out at 172 metres. However, since their erection in 1988, they have formed one of Hong Kong's landmarks of modern architecture. The towers have been nicked "Koala Tree" or "Koala Buildings" because their shape resembles Koala bears climbing two tree trunks.
This BAT is more than just another building for your plugins folder; it is also a medium to apply and demonstrate many new BATting techniques. The superior possibilities of 3DSMax were taken to new levels; a structure like this would not have been possible with gmax. Reflections, bump maps on the windows, a waterfall made from particles and an entirely new nightlighting technique are just some of the novel elements introduced with this building. This way, it is almost a feasibility study - but one you can enjoy in your city just like any other building, without the slightest drawbacks.
The model was made by paulvmontfort and is, in fact, the third (and quite probably last) attempt at recreating this building. SimFox contributed many new techniques, refinements, additions and ideas, so that the model you see is actually the result of a teamed effort.

For the game, Lippo Centre has been modded as a medium-wealth commercial office building (CO§§) in order to help alleviate the definite shortage of good CO§§ BATs for SC4. Sitting on a rather unique 7x4 lot, it provides 5,250 jobs. A ploppable version with jobs and a regular landmark are also available and included in this package.
In total, the following versions are available:
Ploppable landmark (7x4 lot) Ploppable functional CO$$ (7x4 lot) Growable CO$$ building (7x4 lot) As usual, you will find the menu icons of ploppable and landmark versions conveniently grouped together, the ploppable version being marked with "CO§§".

Mod Edit: Fixed broken description formatting.

24. Cockatoo Presents…
Emerald Plaza

Model, Modding / Lotting, Custom Menu Icons & Readme – Cockatoo.
Cheers to Amthaak for help with the pool!

Taking a break from my usual HK stuff, I decided to make this. Emerald plaza is a building located in San Diego, California, consisting of 8 conjoined hexagonal towers. The building features a unique display of neon lighting around the edges of its roof in real life, which I’ve tried my best to re-create in the model.

I’ve included a Dark truNite model for day/night mod users in addition to a regular Maxis truNite model for those who don’t.

In this download there are three versions included.

•   Growable stage 7 CO§§ providing 3147 medium wealth jobs.
•   Plopable functional CO§§ providing 6292 medium wealth jobs.
•   Plopable static landmark.

The stats are as follows:
It's all in the README.

These are the files you need for these lots to be able to function in the game…

•   None!

Day/night mod users extract Emerald Plaza (Dark).SC4Model (essential model file) and your choices of any of the three versions above into your C:/My Documents/SimCity 4/Plugins folder.
Regular users extract Emerald Plaza (Maxis).SC4Model (essential model file) and your choices of any of the three versions above into your C:/My Documents/SimCity 4/Plugins folder.

•   CO$$7_4x6_Emerald Plaza.SC4Lot  =  Growable CO§§
•   PLOP_CO$$_4x6_Emerald Plaza  =  Plopable CO§§
•   PLOP_4x6_Emerald Plaza.SC4Lot  =  Landmark

Any Issues?
If you have any problems with my custom content, please send me (Cockatoo-210893) a private message at either Simtropolis or SC4Devotion.com.

25. Sunken Higway Walls
This little set is designed to enhance the look of sunken higways.
It provides straight walls that fit on the slopes surrounding sunken ground
higways. And it also contains special pieces to nicely integrate overpasses
into your sunken higway network. You can find them in the parks menu.
I recommend using the hole digging lot for ground higway to get the right
slopes beside your higway, especially to get the terrain needed for the
onramp pieces. To get them right you should dig a hole with the diggin
lot then level the terrain by placing single street tiles. When done lay the
highway and plop the overpass, hopefully you should get the right terrain.
If not try playin arround a bit with the terrain tools somtimes its just tricky
to get it right but in most cases it works fine.
