As our website community software improves with more and more features, and as we bolt on additional features such as chat, the increased load to handle all these new toys is taking the server a bit to task. You may have noticed that we'd been forced to temporarily disable the chat as we worked out allocating resources for more optimal performance. Following this, we've applied a number of 'soft' changes such as caching options and experimented with server configurations (nginx as proxy, for example), so the hardware aspect is also an area we'd like to focus on. The last time we upgraded hardware was back in 2012, prior to the release of SC13. Your contribution means a lot!     ---------------------------------------
    A fictional development, based on a new build in the San Francisco, CA area, Gertrude apartments was created to compete with some of the mid-rise R§§§ apartment complexes which can become quite repetitive in game.
    This apartment building uses a series of massings and elevations to provide abundant natural light and cross ventilation to each of the generously sized apartments. This design also ensures that most terraces are private and that all but one is overlooked from neighbouring flats.
    This apartment building is 8 floors high (excluding the mechanical penthouse area). The lower floors contain a number of 2 & 3 bedroom + 2 bathroom apartments, while the upper floors are reserved for spacious 3-4 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom apartments. 
    The 7th and 8th floor has only one 'sky home' with a spacious, private sun terrace and generous planter boxes.
    The communal grounds planting is of low maintenance conifers on well-lit, compact grounds making these lots a great option in all density areas. 
    The apartments are presented in two paint schemes: a deep, coffee colored scheme which looks great in dense, urban areas and a paler blue/green scheme inspired by the coast. Both are in prop families and will grow at random.
    These apartments are presented in 5 lot options: a 4x4, a 3x4, a 4x3, a 4x2 and a 2x4 lot. They grow on all tilesets and all have the same stats.
    These are a good mid-rise, high wealth, medium density filler lots for your cities.

  4. This is a simple 1x1 slope conforming wind power plant without grass texture.
    It has the same values and costs as the default wind power plant but with a reduced size.
    I recommend you to not plop those power plants too close to each other because the propellers will go through each others and it won't look very realistic.
     
    This is my first BAT so if you find any mistakes in values or stuff like that send me a pm and I will try to fix them!

  6. October 8, 2014: OK, the problem is now fixed!  The lot will now show up in the landmark menu.
     
    Attention:  Make sure you bulldoze any instance of the lots that may have grown in your cities before you re-download. After you've done that, everything will be fine.
     
    Thank you to Happy Days for discovering the problem and fixing it.
     
    The third in a series of BATs I created years ago.

  7. The Pemex Executive Tower (Spanish: Torre Ejecutiva Pemex) is a skyscraper in Mexico City. The 214 meter (211 meters to top floor) international style tower was built between 1976 and 1982. Since the building's opening, it has been occupied by state-owned Pemex, one of the largest petroleum companies in the world.
    The Torre Ejecutiva Pemex originally proposed to replace two 14-story towers built between 1967 and 1970. Later, these buildings were replaced by a pair of 26-story towers to house Pemex's administrative offices. However, the 1980s oil boom demanded office space growth and Pemex decided to build a single 52-story tower in a downtown lot with a huge plaza covering an underground avenue. The building is anchored to the ground, rests on 164 concrete and steel piles that penetrate to a depth of 35 meters surpassing the old filling swampy lake to reach firmer ground. In addition, its x-braced structure features 90 shock-absorbers to minimize oscillations from earthquakes. The tower was completed in 1982, but the surrounding plaza was never completed.
    The Torre Ejecutiva Pemex remained the tallest building in Mexico for almost 20 years,[1] until August 2003, when the 55-story Torre Mayor was completed only half a mile away. Currently, the Torre Pemex is the third tallest building in Mexico, and the second tallest in Mexico City. The tower is currently occupied by approximately 7,000 Pemex employees.
    On 19 September 1985, the tower withstood a magnitude 8.1 earthquake, as well as other strong earthquakes that commonly strike Mexico City. The building was designed to withstand an earthquake of 8.5 on the Richter scale.

  8. Houston Place Apartments, by Mattb325.

    Inspired by the sorts of developments springing up not only across Texas, but in many parts of the world, Houston Place apartments is a fictional apartment building that I created to compete with some of the mid-rise R§§§ apartment complexes which can become quite repetitive in game.
    These sorts of apartments capitalise on the current architectural trends occurring in the South of the US: boxy, heavy-set buildings that utilise the trend of mixed materials: rubble-stone wall cladding, brick, steel and glass.
    Despite the assertive (albeit eclectic) use of mixed materials, they are neo-classical in style and quite conservative in the appearance of their street-scape and massing and are targeted at higher-end buyers.
    This apartment building is 8 floors high (including the roof-top recreation area and pool). The lower floors contain a number of 1 & 2 bedroom + 2 bathroom apartments, while the middle & upper floors are reserved for spacious 3 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom apartments.
    The 7th floor has only two 4 bedroom + study, 5 bathroom 'sky homes' with wrap around terraces and floor to ceiling panoramic windows.
    The communal grounds planting showcases evergreens all on well-lit, compact grounds making these lots as good in all density areas.
    These apartments are presented in 4 options: a 3x4, a 4x3, a 4x4 and an 8x4 lot. The 8x4 lot may take some time to grow (the game has a tendency to break these lots up) but holding the CTRL key while zoning will assist growth chances. They grow on all tilesets.
    These are a good mid-rise, high wealth, medium density filler lots for your cities.

    Built in 1723, this is the oldest church in Boston and is famous for having been the church from which Paul Revere received his illuminated signals ("one if by land, and two if by sea") prior to his midnight ride to warn Lexington and Concord during the American Revolution.
    The church is a national historic landmark and a mission of the Episcopalians.
    This building is modded as a non-conditional House of Worship reward (meaning it can be placed in your city at any time without having met prior conditions).
    It does not over-write the Maxis House of Worship rewards and can safely be used in conjunction with these (or any relotted version thereof).
    Placing this Reward provides R§§ CAP relief, has a park effect, boosts the mayor rating and also provides up to 17 highly desirable civic jobs.
    It is on a 3x3 lot.

  10. After a very long wait, here it is! Voltaire and ace_bovenopdeberg present: Terminals & Jets pack 1 PART ONE. Not only does this pack provide you with new concourse styles, but also 2 entirely new aircraft. With the new jumbo 747s and the regional CRJs you can add variety to your airports that were dominated by maxis 707s.

    This is part one of the ACB-VLT Terminals & Jets Series 1 release. The .zip contains a .exe file that will install the content to your MyDocs\Simcity 4\Plugins directory. This part of the install contains:

    > 747 jetways (12 different liveries)
    > CRJ jetways (9 different liveries)
    > Models and textures from my previous packs. This means this pack can replace the older ones

    FAQ
    Q: Do these lots function as airports?
    A: Yes and No: Yes, they are zoned airport and appear in the airport menu. No, they do not have a capacity, jobs or commercial boost

    Q: Do these aircraft replace the maxis planes?
    A: No, the 747s and CRJ are gmax models modded as props

    Q: Can I use multiple liveries at the same time?
    A: Yes, because they are props, you can use them all at the same time

    Q: Can I make my own livery
    A: As of now, there is no 'paintkit' available to allow everyone to make 747 or CRJ-skins. Maybe one will be released in the future.

    Q: Some lots appear blank (No buildings). What do I do?
    A:  short answer: Install directly into the plugins folder. Why can this help? Especially if you have installed your simcity game to a custom directory the total of "#Directory#\Sim City 4\Plugins\Aerospace Consortium\ACB-VLT Terminals & Jets Series 1\Etc." can be too long to load properly.

    As part of providing some much needed, long overdue upgrades to some of the Maxis I-HT stalwarts, I decided that Kane Tiberium deserved a new 're-imaging' for the 21st Century. After all, the in-game dumpy little structure has been filling up any I-HT zone for almost 15 years, so it is probably due for some extra space.
    Given the initial rather pointless reference to an external game with the naming of this building, I doubt that such an industry could survive all this time in the real world. So in my version, Kane Tiberium makes NutriliteTM vitamins, minerals & dietary supplements products to turn a buck.
    Please note that this new file doesn't interfere with the original Maxis files and will work for those who have a Maxis blocker installed.
    This I-HT Anchor lot comes in two flavours: 4x3 and 4x4 (use the CTRL Key while zoning to ensure that you get the correct lot size).
    It is growable only on medium and high density Industrial zones and provides between 300 jobs.
    The building itself is based on a boxy mid-century modern design and brings a retro flair to your industrial zones.

  12. Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco, by Mattb325.

    Inspired by the recent SC3000 uploads, the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), San Francisco is a non-profit organisation and holds an internationally recognised collection of modern and contemporary art, and was the first museum on the US West Coast devoted solely to 20th Century art.
    The present building was designed by Mario Botta in the late 1980s and the building - as depicted here in SC4 - was completed in 1995.
    It was recently given a large extension in 2009, but I have not modelled that part of the building.
    This building acts as a Museum and sits on a 4x4 lot providing 315 highly desirable civic jobs and gives a large educational boost across a wide radius.
    It is found in the Education Menu.

  13. Millennium Hotel Knightsbridge, by Mattb325.

    If you've recently downloaded Harrods http://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/31736-harrods/ you may be wanting some additional UK themed Bats to fill the surrounding area.
    Fear not; over on nearby Sloane Street, a brutalist monstrosity caught my eye, and so I have brought this into game.
    When I look at a building from Google Street View, if at a street level it piques my interest, then I'll usually look at it from either Google Earth or Bing to get a better feel for the model.
    It is at this point that I will determine whether I will do a recreation, or adopt a looser approach. Either way, there will always be elements of each building I look at that in my opinion will stay or go when I recreate the building for SC4.
    Normally not too many elements of a building get turfed out: those that do are either aligned at an odd angle (rather than the SC4 grid), or are too awkward to be worth my effort. It is rare, however, that a building catches my eye on street level, for me to look at it from above and shake my head with a 'what were they thinking' moment.
    Millennium Hotel in Knightsbridge is one such building.
    It caught my eye because there are so few of these sorts of buildings in SC4; now I'll admit I am not a huge fan of brutalist early 1970's architecture: add the inclement British weather & city smog and you have hulking concrete structures that have gone from a light green-grey to the most dreary shade of dirty grey imaginable. But regardless of your opinion on Brutalism, you have to admit that it at least exudes authority and gravitas.
    So it came as some surprise when I saw all of the truly, truly "twee" additions visible from the air....now, with apologies to Mcmansionhell.com and other spoof websites, please see my take on what got the 'cut' from this Bat and why...

    Hopefully my UK friends can get a bit of a laugh out of this: you have been through a fair bit in recent months. 
    Now that that's out of the way, the Millenium Hotel is offered as a growable CS§§ building on a 4x4 lot. It is a larger 14 story mid-rise building, which I have made my own adjustments to. It grows on all tilesets and provides 960 CS§§ jobs.

    Inspired by the iconic department store on Brompton Rd, Knightsbridge, Harrods is presented as a CS§§§ growable and ploppable lot for your cities.
    Please be aware that the present day Harrods has been extended and remodelled a number of times since the main building on Brompton Rd was completed in 1905, so this is NOT a strict recreation, but what I present is faithful to the original façade as designed by Charles Stephens, albeit with modifications to make it more game-ready.
    I have only modelled the front portion of the building.
    It must be noted that the present building has completely over-run the old streets of 'Queens Gardens' and 'New Place' and wrapped its way around what used to be known as Queen Street and Lower North St (since renamed Hans Rd and Basil St respectively), consuming the old Hans Mansion block and other buildings in the process.
    Because these streets run at odd angles and curves, even with the FAR roads and other NAM advances, I felt that modelling all of this would make the building almost completely unusable for the average player.
    Additionally the original building, aligned to Brompton Rd, was slightly wedged shaped - the old line is still somewhat visible under all of the present day roof additions from Google earth along the Hans Rd façade. Naturally I have squared this off to get this into game, which means that the rear of the building is completely fictitious.
    The present roof junk and extension of the Mansard roof along all facades is modelled - with slight variations by me - on the most up-to-date renovations: you can compare the differences by using the Google earth program (up-to-date) vs. Bing ?birds-eye/Google maps (out-of-date) to see the remarkable difference to the roof-top in recent years.
    Lastly, in order to fit the building on a maximum of 8 tiles (which will give it at least some chance of growing), I have removed one set of windows near the turret. Given the lag on my computer, I have also avoided modelling the hundreds of bulbs on the Hans Cres and Hans Roads sides.
    With all of that said, if you are strictly puritanical about recreations being 100% accurate, then please do not download this.
    The lot comes in two flavours: a growable Commercial Services and a ploppable, functional C§§§ lot, which is found in the Landmarks Menu. Both have the same stats.

    Unlike most BATs I've released, this particular BAT has not yet been featured, but in any case is one of Scott City's main Spaceport Terminals on the colony of Terra Nova. One of the many terminal and port structures that serve and connect Terra Nova's capital to the wider galaxy, it holds the passenger terminals, civilian immigrations processing, terminal security and the spaceport's tower control center and communications array. While not the only terminal structure on the spaceport, it does however house the control tower which keeps contact with airliners and ships that cross within the spaceport's control/contact radius.
     
    Fun Fact: This BAT is rendered in HD. Just thought it'd be fun...

    Another Maxis Hi-tech ( stalwart gets a 21st Century facelift.
    Jenquai goes from that small half underground building which steps back from the lot (and is accessed via a sort of draw-bridge) to a shiny, new and much larger facility. Just like the previous building which had sunken areas and elevated walkways, this new IHT factory provides a lovely, leafy sunken courtyard for employees to take lunch as well as a raised walkway connecting the two buildings.
    This version is a Hi-Tech growable anchor 6x6 lot (use the CTRL key when zoning to ensure the correct lot size) and will not interfere with any Maxis blockers or re-lots of the original Jenquai Alchemy.

    Inspired by any number of the bland, blah and boring apartment blocks that have sprung up all around the world since the turn of the 21st century, I present Ennuyeuse Apartments.
    These sorts of apartments are clean and functional and appeal to conservative buyers with a safe, neutral colour palette of whites, creams, taupes and of course the newest kid on the neutral block: 'greige' trims and feature walls ('greige' is the colour and word combination of a deep warm grey on a beige base).
    No doubt in 30 years time, 'greige' will become as despised as the 1970s mission-browns and burnt oranges.
    All these apartment complexes are typically 8 stories tall, thereby broadening the conservative buyer appeal to the lucrative Asian market (the number 8 - pronounced 'Ba' in Mandarin sounds similar to 'Fa' which means to 'Make a Fortune' - hence the lucky association). However, given that these apartments usually use quite cheap materials with minimal noise and thermal insulation, the only people making a fortune are the developers!
    Floors 7 & 8 are reserved for the penthouse.
    The apartments feature other crowd pleasers such as securely garaged, underground parking; lift access; hidden drying balconies (these are the two tall louvered areas on both sides of the building); glass-railings on the main balconies and reverse cycle ducted airconditioning. Open-concept living areas, granite counter-tops, stainless steel appliances, ensuite and guest bathrooms all add to the broad buyer appeal.
    The planting is non-descript with crowd pleasing evergreens all on well-lit, compact and easy-to-maintain grounds ensuring that strata levies/HOA fees are kept to a minimum.
    These apartments are presented in 3 options: a 2x2, a 3x3 and a 5x5 lot.
    Despite their predictability, these are a good mid-rise, medium wealth, medium density filler lots for your cities.

  20. UK Suburban Retailers Pack, by Mattb325.

    A pack of five UK retailers as requested by a number of people in the community to help address some of the lack of UK/European stores available for the game. Specifically, I made these for rsc204/mgb204 as he is always so incredibly helpful on the forums.
    The stores included in this pack are: Aldi, Homebase, Morrisons, Sainsbury's and Waitrose. One of the most noticeable differences between US-styled supermarkets and box stores and the UK/Euro ones is the domestic scale applied to the architecture: quite often the buildings have an entire pitched roof or composite materials such as timber and brick which are more suited to a suburban house. The second most notable characteristic is that existing buildings are adapted and re-used: it is not uncommon for office spaces or old department stores to be converted to a supermarket and I have tried to pick a variety of styles for these BATs (not just purpose built buildings).
    These are all offered as growable 6x6, stage 1, medium wealth, Commercial Services on the EURO Tileset only.
    Use the CTRL key while zoning, or alternatively, use the buildingplop mod (contained in the extra cheats dll: http://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/21118-simcity-4-extra-cheats-plugin/) to make these - or any other buildings - ploppable.
    Given how little competition there is in the 6x6 zone and the fact that the game does not readily break up this zone, I have decided to include growable lots only rather than further cluttering up the landmark menu.
    By growing (or plopping) these together, you can make quite cohesive retail parks which look great in suburban areas.

  22. Simmons Bank Tower is a 40-story skyscraper located at 425 West Capitol Avenue in downtown Little Rock, Arkansas. At 547 feet (167 m) high, it is currently the tallest building in Arkansas.
    The new tower was born out of discussions between two ascending business executives, John Flake, a Little Rock real estate developer, and Jerry Maulden, president of Arkansas Power & Light (now Entergy). Construction began in 1984 on the $72 million building, and in 1986 the building was completed and dubbed The Capitol Tower. Currently, the namesake tenant, Simmons Bank, is headquartered in the tower with presence in various markets of Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, and Tennessee. Flake & Kelley Commercial, the current name of the development firm of the tower, performs the management and leasing of the tower, and the Doyle Rogers Company is the special asset manager.
    The building was renamed Simmons Tower in April 2014.

    This is the model only. I have neither the game nor any of the modding tools installed at this point so you will have to do the modding and make the lot yourself. Sorry! The images show what I cooked up... 8 years ago?!? Jeez, I can't believe it has been so long. I have a full time job and another hobby that eats most of my free time, but I miss all of you that made SC4 fun for as long as I was active.

  25. This is the third set of my Dutch Housing project. It contains models from Dutch or Dutch-like architecture built roughly between 1920 and 1970. The set counts 88 different lots in R$, R$$ and R$$$, in several sizes and several growth stages.
    A small remark: from the Mntoes download you need to use the SD props, not the HD. Because they have different TGI you would end up with brown boxes. These have their own beauty, but the lots would not look like I intended.
    You need an awful lot of dependencies, although most of them are very common ones.
